Here's the 2015 thread for the Monthly Project, continuing with the 2014 thread :)

The goal is to take a length picture each month, around the same time, to see the progress at the end of the year. Every 6 months you can also line all your length pictures up in order to make your growth chart.
People who would like to take bimonthly pictures are also welcome to join in the fun!
Here's the link to the 2015 Quarterly Length and Braid Taper Photo Project thread, for those of you who would rather prefer to take quarterly pictures: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=127960&highlight=quarterly

Here are some tips to participate:

* Wear a t-shirt/sweater/dress/other with horizontal stripes (better if the stripes are a bit wider!), or some sort of design, for an easier visual measurement of the monthly growth. You could also draw some lines on a white shirt and write the inch/cm measurement of each line. If you're feeling creative, you could draw lines on your back to designate milestones (SL, APL, BSL, WL, HL, TBL, Classic, Knee, etc.). If you don't have a striped garment (and you don't feel like showing us your artistic nude backs), simply wearing the same shirt for each picture helps for comparison.

* Pick a designated area of your house/apartment/garden/hobbit hole/other to take the pictures in every time, to compare your growth over the months. Changing up the background scenery in the pictures can make the growth hard to tell sometimes. However, if you're a nomad like me, and you're constantly moving from one place to another/you're travelling and will take your pictures in a new place every time, that's also ok.

* Try to set your camera/phone on the same surface for each picture, like a table, shelf, book pile, aquarium, etc. Try to memorize the angle where your photos are taken, and position yourself in a similar distance every time. Use a countdown timer setting if your camera has one, and if you use the zoom feature, set the zoom level in the same place every time.

Everyone is welcome to join. Happy growing!

I'll take part :)
I'm inLLL's quarterly project, but to be honest I was thinking of trying to take the pictures more often (mainly because the 2014 one looked fun and I didn't take part).
Although I have stripey clothes, I am probably not going to use them to document growth - partly because my hair is BCL, so it is crossing the awkward length from top-butt to bottom-butt which is where clothes end. Instead, I am going to be measuring against my arms (by keeping my arms straight down in the pictures), as you know, my arms should always be screwed on the same way :p

I have the perfect area on a sink to take the picture, but I realise that around August-September next year I will be moving location, so the picture will change then. Not that that is of any concern to anyone other than me, but hey ho! :)

Anyway - this pic was from the 4th of December, after nearly 2 weeks without washing my hair (yay...), so it will work nicely with official 2015 photos.

Set up your camera on a ledge or surface, set a timer (5 - 10 seconds), stand straight with hair down and... done! :)

Oooh, I completely forgot about LLL's quarterly project! I'll add the link in the thread description.
It'll be nice to have quarterly and monthly threads though, so that people will be able to choose the frequency of their posts. I'll try to take monthly pictures this time, since I wasn't constant at all last year!

I liked Laura's idea of braid taper, as that is a good way of seeing thickness make its way down if you want to try that. :)
Because I'm so bad at single braids, I'm going to be doing one and twin braids, see which goes better.

Yay, I'm in! I'll take my first pic on the 1st, and it will also be the last pic of the 2014 project. I need to find a new measuring shirt as my hair now almost covers the logo on my current one. It's been really fun to watch my own and everyone else's progress over the year! I'm not seeing increased length every month, but i'm still going to take monthly photos because even if nothing seemed to happen one month, I know I will see the difference over time. My hair is slightly wavy and it doesn't look exactly the same every month.

Nice to find you all in here, companions hair-growers !!! :) :) :) I am definitely in ! But I may post every 2 months only : my hair is terribly thinning (*ç*%ç* hair loss !!!) and I'll have to trim regularly if I want to maintain some thickness.

I am starting 2015 at "can-I-call-it-BSL", lol

Welcome, fellow growers!! :cheer:

Mimha, you are almost there!! Sooooo close to BSL!! Your hair grows like weed!
Don't worry too much about the shed: it might be just seasonal, I've been shedding like crazy this last month as well. Think that hair is doing the same thing as leaves from a tree... you hair will get fuller soon :flower:

I'll be trimming regularly this year too, since I want to get rid of the perm once and for all! So I might not gain a lot of length in 2015, but I really hope that by the end of the year I'll have a much healthier head of hair :)
My goal is hip, and just a couple inches of permed part left. I've been growing out damage since February 2013... I'm more than fed up of the perm (lesson learned!).

Thank you fiğrildi ! It's so nice of you to say ! I feel so desperate and powerless sometimes, when my brush is completely filled with shed hair !! shudder: and I hope it's just the winter time. My hair must hate cold weather, ha ha ha ! When I lived in hot climate countries, it shed very little (almost not at all during 1.5 years the first time I went there).

I followed the monthly project this year, and yours was one that stood out because you could clearly see the logo disappearing behind you ever lengthening hair. I was impressed.

I will probably do the quarterly project for '15, but will still be monitoring this one. Happy growing!

MeAndTheMaz , glad you enjoyed it! =) I read the 2013 thread before joining and was similarly impressed with someone who used a shirt with a circular logo! I thought it was a little bit easier to see the progress than with a striped shirt. At the start of the year I could only guess how much of mine would be covered! Fortunately I have shirts with the same logo but lower down.

A monthly project is a great excuse to get new clothes, isn't it?

Most of my t-shirts are striped, so I will be using one of them. Tomorrow I'll be taking the first picture of the year, I can't wait!

So here goes... January photo!!

For comparison, my january 2014 pic:
http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz173/askansphotos/jan2014_zps7ce15c02.jpg (http://s825.photobucket.com/user/askansphotos/media/jan2014_zps7ce15c02.jpg.html)

Obviously I went blonde during 2014 by growing out my natural colour and bleaching part of the length. I had 15 months of virgin growth when I bleached and now I think it is 21 months. My goal is all-virgin waistlength hair. I trimmed several times during 2014, maybe 2 inches altogether. Now I hope I can avoid trimming until I've reached BSL at least.
My measuring jacket doesn't show waist or BSL so I might take some additional photos when I'm getting closer. I think waist is somewhere around the text on the jacket.

ETA: Fighting with photobucket to show my edited photo and not the original. Blaah.

And here is my first 2015 picture !

In order to help me align my pictures better, I wrote down my little protocol for picture scaling (240x320) and exact positioning of the camera.

I start at line 9 of my shirt. Line 10 is BSL (which is the length of my hair... if I pull it :p). I hope to pass MBL (line 13) before the end of the year, and with a little luck (and no trim) flirt with waist (line 16) !!

Here's my first length shot of 2015 taken last night just before bed, so excuse the awful lighting and my dressing gown. My hair is currently past tailbone somewhere in the pre-classic abyss. I aim to be at classic or beyond by the end of this year, and at least maintain if not improve my hemline.

It's really bad quality, but better than nothing! 2014 has been a really awful year hairwise for me, so I'm hoping actually keeping progress of the grown will make me feel less like my hair's stuck in a rut. I'd like to reach APL, or somewhere between APL and BSL, this year, but have no idea if that's realistic!

Aurum Your hair looks lovely. If you don't like wispy ends then I'm sure your hemline could be thickened with a couple trims in 2015. I made the choice to get 2 trims last year, which helped my hemline a lot, by cutting off about 2 inches from the ends each time. Fairytale ends are beautiful too though, so do whatever you feel is right for you :)

houlihan, sarahchant, and georgia_peach - I'm sure the next year will show a lot of growth for you all. I look forward to seeing the progress as the year passes.

Thank you, Scarlet_Celt :flower:
Last year was indeed a difficult one, I got through times when I was about to chop off to shoulder length. I've done lots of deep treatments, been constantly trimming, and I don't shampoo since November 2013. I'm so, so glad that I didn't chop off...! I'm still far away from being happy with my hair (I won't be until it's all natural), but I'm very happy with my evolution so far, and I'm learning how to be more patient! I dream of the day that my hair will be as long as yours, you have such a thick hemline! :crush:

askan, as I told you before in the natural hair colour thread, your hair is incredibly beautiful and looks very healthy. Growing natural is very rewarding, and you've done a great job so far :)

Wosie, if you lower your camera a little you can get a more accurate view of your length, but the picture you took is fine anyway. It seems that you'll graduate from the BSL to waist thread sometime this year :)

Johannah, you will outgrow your goal length very soon! Are you going to maintain at 36 inches?

Mimha, at your growth rate you will achieve MBL for sure, and you could get very close to waist as well! I hope the shedding gets better, even if your hair still looks as majestic and full as usual :)

georgia_peach, I'm so glad that you're not hiding your monthly pictures anymore.. your hair is fantastic, and I think you'll be able to get very close to BSL by the end of the year!

houlihan, APL is definitely realistic :) I look forward to seeing your progress, as well as sarahchant's.

Aurum, please, don't say that your hair is depressing! Your hair is so pretty, and so are your fairytale ends! You can get regular trims along the year, if you want to achieve a fuller hemline. There is no need to chop to waist, you can grow longer and improve your hemline at the same time :flowers:

georgia_peach, I fully agree with you, these pictures are very inspiring! :D Also, I think it's inspiring to see shorter heads of hair grow, too, so I will check your pictures from last year asap. =)

Johannah, I think my hair will look very similar to yours when I've reached your length (bar from the hair colour, naturally) which makes me really excited as your hair is so beautiful. :')

Mimha, You managed to get a much better angle than me, so your hair's length is perfectly depicted. :agree: Your hair grows so quickly (even though your waves are so full and must steal a lot of the visual length), so your hopes of reaching waist definitely isn't unbelievable!

Scarlet_Celt, Funny that you wore a flexi in your length picture, I was thinking of doing the same. *flexi nerd* I saw some of your pictures in the flexi thread and was amazed by how thick and voluminous your hair is.

fiğrildi, As always--love your hair colour, one of my favouritest ones in the whole forum. :cloud9: I was thinking the same thing, that DBF has to lower himself a little bit when taking the pictures, I'll ask him to do so the next time around. x*)
Yay, I'm sure I'll reach waist this year unless I cut too much off (last year was a trimmy year for me)! I have promised myself not to trim until at least May (my birthday month).

Sarahchant, Good luck on reaching APL! You're starting out with a great hemline, something I definitely didn't have at your length. =)

houlihan, Same for you as for Sarahchant--great-looking hemline! I like the texture and waves of your hair, you might be a 2a judging from those. =D

Aurum, Your picture is far from depressing in my eyes (seriously!), I was honestly thinking "wow, that's a gorgeous mane" or something to that effect when I saw your picture. :flower:

---

This will be mostly a non-trimmy year for me, as most of my layers're gone and my hair looks different from day to day anyway so the ends can look bad one day and great the next. I love to trim, though, so it'll be a challenge!
Good luck, everyone, it'll be awesome to see your progress. =)

Hi, wosie! Yes, I got to thinking that I should share my own journey not just for support but to maybe help other short haired folks with the growing out process.

Thank you, Scarlet_Celt!

Sarahchant and houlihan, I look forward to growing to longer lengths with you all.

Aurum, your hair looks so soft and lovely. And I think your fairy tale ends suit your hair type perfectly. Have you seen the thread that celebrates fairy tale ends? I'll try to dig that up for you.

fiğrildi, I'm at 34" and I will maintain for at least 6 months (to get rid of damage, to thicken up my hemline and to get rid of the last layers). Then I'll probably grow further until 36" and maintain again. And after that I might grow further to 38"......... LHC is an addiction, it really is!

:crush:

I'm sure you won't have much more perm damage to get rid of this year, and your hemline is already looking remarkably healthy considering the hairs have been processed, so fingers crossed you will see a lot of growth this year. I've set my year goal to classic, and I know I could probably achieve this by July, but I want to allow myself the opportunity to trim a couple inches if needed and maintain, because having long hair is only worth it to me if my hair looks healthy and thick.

Scarlet_Celt, Funny that you wore a flexi in your length picture, I was thinking of doing the same. *flexi nerd* I saw some of your pictures in the flexi thread and was amazed by how thick and voluminous your hair is.

I've never gotten used to taking length photos, so if I hadn't asked my mum to take a photo of my new flexi 8 then I probably wouldn't have taken a length shot at all. Thank you :) To be fair I think hair is mostly genetic, but I'm certain it is in better condition thanks to protective styling, oiling, and my tangle teezer.

Thank you all for your kind words on my hemline. I'll probably get rid of the ends gradually this year, because I'd end up here again if I chopped all at once. Until then, I'll just hide them with buns. :)

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! :o

houlihan, Same for you as for Sarahchant--great-looking hemline! I like the texture and waves of your hair, you might be a 2a judging from those. =D

Hm, I find it hard to tell at the current length, especially when it's so layered. Some days it seems more like 1b, other days definitely 2a or even 2b. I think it'll probably be easier for me to figure out once it gets longer. My shortest layers are currently around ear length...why, hairdresser, why?!

Here's my picture. (Hope I uploaded rigth, I'm a newbie here ) i'm brushing waist length when dry now. As you can see, my hair is dry, the ends look thin because I have very short layers (at Bra strap length) that make them look like this and because I had braided my hair before. The texture of my hair braided is really similar than the natural one. :)

Hi Wosie :)

Thanks for your kind comment ! :)

I'm happy to post here my own length-chart, based on the above mentioned picture ! (I finally figured out how to use Gimp to add lines and text^^). I will use it as my own "standard meter".

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15076&d=1420306531

Just in case this can be useful to anyone, here is how I did to take my picture :

- I chose a place in my home (bathroom) where I had a shelf or a window high enough to position my camera every time at the same place/height with no doubt. I added a little box so as the objective focuses right between my flat bones (upper back level).

- I close the door of the bathroom so as to have a light background, always the same color, on which my hair will be clearly visible.

- I settle my camera (by using a mirror to see the screen^^) to make sure it's focusing in the right place, and I put the timer on.

- I position myself one foot from the door, and kept my head straight, looking right in front of me.

- I took several different shots and selected the best  (to see if better with or without flash, for instance)

- I uploaded the pics on my PC, made a light correction (add some light and reduce the shades, if necessary) and resized the one I chose in order to have something max. 360x480 or 240x320. (The option in the menu is usually called "resize" or "scale image"). Then I uploaded the corrected image on LHC.

And here you are ! :) Next time I'll just have to put my camera at the same place and do the same procedure again. So I'm not depending on somebody else and I can take as many pics as I want with no stress. (Small pics are easier to use at a later stage, when aligning several of them to compare the lengths).

Now let's wait a month and grow !!!! ^^

I'm new to the forum and would like to join in. I'm not sure what to call my hair bra strap length or waist length? I last had it cut to shoulder length and colored in February 2014. You can where the dye is grown out to. I would like to end up at hip to tailbone length. I'm thinking it will take a year to get to hip I feel my hair grows fairly fast.http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk48/nevb1973/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-12/AC5E3974-47C8-419F-88E4-C6FD9347802C.jpg (http://s277.photobucket.com/user/nevb1973/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-12/AC5E3974-47C8-419F-88E4-C6FD9347802C.jpg.html)

I have shed quite a lot recently and my ponytail is at 8 cm by now (middle ii), so I am pleased that it still look fairly poofy :o. Concerning the length, I was at shoulders at the beginning of last year and almost at BSL now, so I have no doubt that you will be easily past BSL by the end of next year !

Hello two-wheels ! I have been following up your progress since I am on LHC (last September) because your hair is quite similar to mine in shape and length. We seem to be both about to hit BSL, so it's going to be interesting to see how our hair will go this year ! I'm curious to see if there is a seasonal more or less speedy period^^

Thank you for those sweet comments. I have never paid much attention to my hair. last year I had a major hair shed that freaked me out. I have always lost a lot if hair but this was crazy. I called dead rat in the shower. I went to the dr had my thyroid checked and all was we'll. she did tell me that it seems like a lot of women in their early 40s have a similar situation. I'm going to be 42 on the 4th. It happened again this fall but didn't last as long. So now I want to grow my hair long, crazy huh? I used to wash my hair every day sometimes twice a day and condition too. I have cut back to once a week. I never dyed my hair until I was about 25. Then I did at home dying quite abut for about 5-10 years. Then I let it grow out. So once my natural color grew out I had grays comin out so dyed again. I do have grays in front and at the temples . I can see them when I put my hair up. Now I have a dilemma I want wear my hair up to protect it and don't want to damage it with dyeing. I have been wearing it in a ponytail with an elastic hair tie. I have no clue how to do any updos or fix my hair or braid it. So I'm hoping to pick that up along the way. Sorry for the novel.

Ha ha, I've been watching your progress & thinking the same thing! :beerchug: My growth is average over the year, but winter seems slower than summer for me. Since April my hair has grown about 6 stripes on that dress (4.5"). So I'm hoping to be solidly at the seam of my dress (where it changes from horizontal to V stripes) by next Christmas!

Nevb1973 I can't believe how quickly your hair has grown- from shoulder to that in a year?! If you're taller than, oh, about 4"10 I'm totally going to stamp my foot in rage :taz: seriously, congrats!

Thanks for the information about your own experience of seasonal hair growth. I also suspect seasonal variations, both in growth speed and in shedding. (I have been shedding like a tree since the beginning of November and it seems to be calming down). When I have one year round of figures concerning growth speed per month and daily hair loss rate along the year, I shall post the result of my personal statistics. :)

Lol, LHC is the only place on Earth where I can say that I am crazy enough to count my shed hair every day :D :D :D

I haven't dared to count my shed hair - it was crazy all through autumn, but seems to have calmed down now. My hair is quite thin at the crown- a very wide part/cowlick type thing- and I don't want to get stressed about it so I refuse to measure or count or anything like that.

The custom thingy above my avatar - you can do that when you have 1000 posts and 365+ days' membership! (it's surprising how quickly you can get to 1000 posts if you're underemployed for 6 months and become suddenly obsessed with hairtoys ahem ahem ;))

Good job on the measuring shirt, diddiedaisy. I tried to make my own with less than stellar results. So I'm using a tshirt with a picture of Will Ferrell from his Saturday Night Live days. :p

Thanks for the encouragement, mimha. APL seems really far away right now much less BSL. But it looks like it's a shorter distance between those two points on me that it is shoulder to APL. *Fingers crossed and scissors put away*

Yes, I think that the way to APL is the worst step to grow. Not only because it is really long to get there without intermediate milestone, but also because it's a frustrating length : hair is not yet long enough to really be done and styled, and just long enough to be bothering (in the way, in the eyes) and also to get damaged (rubbing on the shoulders). It's a kind of no-man's-land of hair^^. Once at APL, your hair starts to be nicely flowing and looking "long" (though for me, long means more down waist, but I think you see what I mean : hair from behind starts looking sort of longer than larger^^). Don't give up !! BSL will indeed be much easier : that's about where I stand now and I don't feel in a hurry or frustrated anymore by the length because I can already enjoy my hair much more.

Happy New Year and happy growing ! :knit:

Welcome to the forum and the thread, and welcome as well to lindsayhv (you do have fresh healthy hair! Which translates as, you won't have to trim during the year, so you'll get a lot of new growth!), nuvola (drool!!), Red'N'Curly (I just love your hair colour!) and Stray_mind (great to see you here! flowers for you: :flowers:)

And cookies for all of you as well  :cookie: :cookie:

Ooo! Found it, sorry for the double post, but I think I figured out the picture thing!

Sorry for the dorky selfie look, but it's the only one I have that shows my starting length....the second one isn't great, but it's mid neck length...

Wow, it's grown so much! I had mine cut to a pixie about the length of yours in April 2013, and it's taken until now to get it comfortably to shoulder length. I could've kept a lot of length by not constantly hacking away at my mullet, though...it would have been worth the few months of awkward hair to have those extra few inches now.

Here's my first length shot of 2015. It's not easy to tell from the picture alone, but I'm at waist and of course my hands are marking my hips. I'm pleased with my growth rate for the most part, but I can definitely tell that my ends need trimming. I think I'll wait just a bit before I have that done though. I don't have the heart just yet!

Your haircut looks great, Michelle! I'm jealous of your hemline and healthy ends
Are you growing out layers? Welcome to the thread, and happy growing to waist!

Laura_F, simply stunning, thudworthy mane to say the least :thud:
I don't see that your ends are needing a trim, but if you really have to, I think a microtrim/dusting would be more than enough.

Welcome here Belle Paix ! :)

Your pixie has incredibly grown in a few months ! (It was perfectly cut and lovely, by the way. You had a better hairdresser than me^^). Have you already had an intermediate cut to make it so neat behind, like a bob ?? Your hair has a nice body with a wide wave showing up... Way to go !! :)

Houlihan, it seems to me that your hair is absolutely ready to grow with no trim for a good while ! It looks thick and healthy and all the hemline is at shoulders, ready to race down. Looking forward to seeing it grow !! :)

Hello Laura_F ! :)

Just to tell you that I totally agree with fithrildi : your hemline is so neat that I would hardly consider a dusting ! Concerning the length, I think that hips are a little above your hands : right where you can feel the top of the iliac crest bone. But it's hard to say on a pic^^.

Nuvola : your color and shine are absolutely gorgeous ! Such a beautiful healthy mane !... :crush:

Hi Michelle051 ! :) Your cut does not look bad at all to me : it is layered quite high, but the layers are very well done and harmonious. Your hair looks healthy and your hemline is thick and neat. So no problem to grow your hair nicely ! May be just micro-trim regularly to help the layered zone to slowly catch up and reduce... if that's what you like, of course ! :)

FallingDarkness : we definitely WANT to see your gorgeous locks !! :bounce:
I will prepare coffee and tea and Fithrildi has already brought a truckload of cookies !!!! :p

Mimha, I was thinking about that last night, and I think that yes, I had one clean up trim. But I'd decided not to get any more cuts...that one was the only one I allowed myself to try to discourage the growing mullet :-). It's still longer in the back than in the front, but I think as it grows out, I'll probably be grateful for that additional length, as someone else said on here already.
It's so nice to see you guys welcoming we shorties...can't wait to see some of the growth on here! There are so many beautiful longhairs on here already, it's inspiring to see all of your beautiful manes!

Hi guys!

Here is my first 2015 picture of the series! :knit: Sorry I don´t have a striped shirt but I´ll see what I can do for the next pictures.

I had finally reached APL but then I "had" to trim because I became concerned that I was going to become fairytale and that was an issue for me before because when that happens my hair sort of stalls, so I cut about an inch!

So, here we go:

Maybe 2-3 months until I hit that first stripe haha

And because I have wurly wavy hair that is impossible to predict when dry, I am taking 'wet' length photos bc sometimes progress is easier to see that way.

But I may post every 2 months only : my hair is terribly thinning (*ç*%ç* hair loss !!!) and I'll have to trim regularly if I want to maintain some thickness.

Mimha, I was shedding like crazy too and freaking out and I went to the pharmacy and the pharmacists gave me this junk (http://myfashionjuice.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/DoveHairFall_Shampoo_Conditioner1.jpg) for hair fall which is pretty mainstream and it reduced the shedding quite a bit!

Hi Jennah :)

So sweet of you to worry and share ! :flowers:

I was freaking out indeed : more than 300 hairs every time I washed (and one day about 400 shudder: !!) and about 100 hairs in the "normal" days. I knew I was undergoing seasonal shed, but a somehow itching scalp was worrying me more (I have some yeast problem and it can affect the scalp too). So I decided to prepare my own herbal rinse to fight it, as I don't want to use any chemical whatsoever. It must have been efficient as since last wash, my shedding has decreased of 50% !! Maybe I am simply out of the bad season, but I think my mixture played a role as my scalp doesn't itch anymore ! My dream of a no-trim year seems to become possible !... :)

... Think I will post my "anti-itching + anti-shed" herbal rinse on the Recipes forum once I have fully experimented it (let's say for a month), in case somebody else is interested.

Concerning your hair, congrats for reaching APL ! Even if you had to trim a little, it was for the best. Your curls are so nicely shaped, gorgeous and bouncy ! :) :)

Mimha, I'm relieved to hear that your shed might be slowing down. :blossom: Sheds are so stressful! I was shedding badly for ~three months this past autumn and it actually brought my mood down. *holds thumbs for you* Also, the anti-itching herbal rinse sounds interesting, my scalp itches regularly due to a pesky and mean variant of atopic eczema. >.<

Oh, cool! Glad you found your herbal solution! :stirpot: I didn´t go as far as counting hairs (just took a gross picture (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10479&d=1398110817) to ask people if this was normal?) but I would have put petroleum in the hair if they told me! Got a striped shirt so I'll be set for February pics. I think my hair was 29.5 inches when my husband measured it for me.I'm 5'2 so I don't have as far to the bottom as taller ones do.I wish I could find a pic from when I had my hair cut but every pic I found my hair was up. When I got it cut I want a chin length bob but she wouldn't cut it that short. I'm glad now so I must have ended up some where at shoulder to armpit last February. I think it musthave been more like armpit because I could still get it in a ponytail. I ll have to measure where the dye line is to see about how much it grew in almost a year.

This is my first photo in this thread (and first LHC photo since I joined in 2012) Haven't had any trims since June 2014 when I cut my hair to chin length bob due to my hair condition :-(
I'm a bit shy about my hair, it's naturally thin and I'm currently recovering after post baby mega hair loss which just stopped after 11 months post baby birth. I have got some thinning patches on left side and on top of my head which I'm trying to cover up. I do have some regrowth coming, which makes me very happy :-) So that's my January photo :-) Thank you for this thread, I think it will help me :blossom:

Thank you. I read on here a while ago that motherhood is a perfect opportunity to grow out your hair because you are focused on your little human. I agree. I feel your pain of the post partum shed, I seriously lost so much hair for almost 3 years afterwards. I never thought it would grow back, but my dandelion head shows otherwise.

Good luck with your hair journey.

I trimmed back in December, and finally got round to taking a new picture :)

Will be washing my hair this evening, so here is my greaseball-look again (although actually not too prominent in the photos, can't say the same in person :p)

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n237/tamalog/Jan2015.png (http://s113.photobucket.com/user/tamalog/media/Jan2015.png.html)

Length is 35.5'', and is exactly at BCL, maybe a little bit "in" depending on if I stretch my hairs out. Prior to the trim, although I hadn't measured, I think I was probably approaching 36.5-37'' long hairs, so hopefully I'll get back there soon!

Unfortunately no snippets for a year Stray_mind - though the ends are much thinner than the rest so wouldn't amount to much anyway :p
Wosie - my hair is quite heavy - I can definitely feel it swooshing all over the place in a ponytail, and I usually redo my buns several times during the day as they always end up pulling, and I get a sore scalp >_< It is usually worse when I wash my hair, I only know how to do it bending my neck forwards, and the extra weight with the water means I usually get a sore neck that evening. Other than that, I like my hair and want it to grow longer, though I admit sometimes I miss the super-light-freedom-of-short-hair!

Here's January. I take my length shots on the 18th since that was the date that I got my last big cut.

I'll join this challenge too! Just to have a reason to take pictures ;)

I'm aiming for shoulder length at the moment, and since I took the picture after having my hair tightly braided for two days my hair is a fluffball. I'm gonna do the same for the rest of the months as well, cause I'm too lazy to brush the wavyness out and or wait for my hair to straighten on it's own. Waiting is not my strong side XD

The only thing that will keep happening is that I'll be cutting the sides of my head and part of the neck. Blisters galore if I don't. Having thick hair is sometimes not a blessing. Oh, well. I'll survive :)

This is the length at the moment:

Blisters?

Yes, I get blisters whenever my scalp gets warm and or I don't dry it properly. Or maybe it's called inflamed hairfollicles? Either way they hurt and suck :(

I don't mean to patronise you but have you been to the doctor about that? Sometimes you can get special shampoo to fix things like that...
Sorry if you already tried that.

I don't think my hair grew this month but we will see in a couple of days I guess :)

No worries. The blisters (or whatever they are) don't happen too often, and when I start the thinking process of "Maybe I should let a doctor look at them" they disappear. Plus I'm of the type that don't want to go to the doctor's "too often", once a year is one too many for my brain, and the blisters aren't bad enough to make me go there again. I wonder if it would get a tiiiiny bit better if I let the hair grow out a bit where the blisters are, just in case it's a ingrown hair... This needs to be looked up. I guess I'll have to go to the doctor, or have someone with a microscope stare at my neck where them blisters are.

I'll shut up now and let the thread go back to it's original purpose :)

Whazzap February! I'm following my own tradtition of being a couple of hours early in posting.

I decided to use my old measuring shirt. I couldn't get the other one right - it looked like I had lost about two inches of lengths in all the photos. Happily I could use my 2014 summary photo and I'm glad that it looks like a bit of progress, I was really frustrated earlier this month when a friend posted a picture of me from October and I could see no change in the length.

I'm a bit bored and just bought some manic panic - fuschia shock off the internet. I'm only intending to dye some streaks of the ends. Should be interesting!

It's cool to have a little offtopic chat here & there! Sounds like ingrowing hair if it's shaved there, in which case growing it out could help... anyway it can't hurt to see someone. Maybe a pharmacist, if it's a pain to get to the doctor.

Askan, looking good!

I decided to go back to bathroom pics because the light really sucks in my living room. Yep, brian the seahorse is back  Luckily I had a length picture from January anyway, as I thought I might change my mind... So, it grew! Bear in mind I had zero growth Dec-Jan so this is probably making up for lost time. I think it stays the same for weeks and then grows for a week. The other weird thing about my hair is it seems longer when I let the natural wave pattern show. When I brush it / put it up, it makes the waves bigger, even if they are wider apart, making my hair appear shorter  does anyone experience the same thing?

Thanks two_wheels, you too! Amazing curls/waves! I sometimes get bun waves where the ends kind of make a big bend, making the hair appear a lot shorter. Frustrating when it's time to take a length shot but I know the difference will show over time anyway :)

In the January pic it was about day 3 after washing and I'd used a boar bristle brush on it. It makes little piecey waves into big body waves. I'm not hugely into the way it looks in that picture but hey, at least someone likes it! February pic is just air-dried after washing. I forgot to do LOC so it's a bit fuzzy around the edges. When I do LOC it's shinier and less frizzy, that's the best way to get waves for my hair, I think. Your hair is so long & shiny now!!

Oh my, I meant the February picture! I think my brain didn't connect it right, seeing as it's still January (for another twenty minutes!). Sorry about that! Your January picture looks a lot like I imagine my hair (I normally only see it from the side and in an unclear light most of the time so I can't tell for sure, but it's these loose, long waves)... I'd love to have them more organized and I'd love if my wavelength was as short as yours! Those are exactly the waves I covet--2b. :cloud9: I don't think my hair can create them, though, unless I use lots of product.

I do have some nice waves on wash day, but as soon as I sleep on them... they're gone. :monkey:

Thanks a lot for the kind compliment. :'D It means a lot to me!

No, it wouldn't hurt other than my wallet ;) The only problem I have with growing out the hair in the shaved areas is that the blisters/ingrown hairs get worse when my hair is long. And then there's the heat combined with thick hair. Oh lord. My head could explode from it. I'm an over all hot person (temperature speaking) and I can't stand it. Not even in the winter. I walk around in tanktops, bare feet and clogs on my feet. Mom thinks I'm crazy for doing it, but I'd rather be cool than too hot. That's why I shave, to keep my head cooler than it could be with long hair all over my head.

I'd love to have a full head of waist length hair tho, if it wasn't for the heat and people misgendering me :/

Hello fellows hair-growers ! :)

Here is my second pic (already ??) of the year. Well... kind of disappointed, though. :( I am still at line 9 !... My hair has hardly grown 1 cm in January. Line 10 of my shirt is BSL, and it looks like I will only be there for my birthday (by the end of March :p). But let's think positive : thanks God my heavy shedding has finally stopped, and my hair is in perfect condition to go through a one-year-no-trim journey^^.

two_wheels, it seems that our hair are quite similar in length and shape ! I'm always looking at your progresses with interest ! :)
If I stretch my hair, I am already at BSL, but I prefer to wait a little before I enter the BSL to Waist thread. Anyway I am happy : I can start doing buns again and I have just succeeded my first lazy wrap bun ever this week !! :joy:

Stray_mind, you got one line of growth! 0__0 (and also, 5 days earlier than a month... nice growth you've got there!)

Mermaidhair<3, welcome to the thread, I just love your black hair! It looks gorgeous now, so it'll be stunning when you reach waist! Your ends look very happy and healthy

Mimha, those are really good news! I'm so glad to know that your shedding has stopped :flower:
I can definitely see some growth between both pictures, and your mane is looking splendid as usual. It seems to me that you could reach BSL by the beginning of march, it looks like it's just a line of your t-shirt to go!

JustPam, loving the ombre effect in your hair :)
At that growth rate you should be at waist very soon!

I apologize for not being that much active on the forum lately, my life is being very busy at the moment, but I did checked the thread regularly (and admired from the shadow all the new pictures being posted!).
I moved two weeks ago, so I had to change the place where I take the pictures of my hair (which is annoying! since I wasn't able to reproduce the exact distance or camera position from the first picture...). I usually measure while my hair is wet, since waves tend to eat quite a bit of length... but I measured in my wavy and dry state this time -so my hair is probably longer than 30 inches now-. It's beginning to feel "long" even if it's not what I would call long, yet (at least, not in myself >length dysmorphia?)
Anyway, now it's way past waist in its wet state, even if the growth is not noticeable by looking at the picture comparison.

Thank you. Yes I haven't dyed in getting close to a year. Not sure what I'll do there are a lot of grays coming through. Especially in my temples that are really obvious when I pull it up. Have been toying with the Idea of hendingo or other options but I don't want to fry my hair by dyeing it. I have had a few boxes of dye in my hands at the store and put them down. I'm so excited seeing everyone's beautiful hair. Makes me impatient too. Not many people in my area have long hair so this is all I have to see examples. No one over 40 has long hair esp, and I'm 42.

Everyone is showing good growth so far! This is my contribution. As usual, the combination of wurl-to-wave ratio, head angle and back angle never quite being the same results in the *appearance* of hair growth that is probably a little misleading:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Keyake/IMG_20150106_182043_zpsmlzxmtql.jpg

And while the same head angle and back angle issues plague me no matter what, I can usually mark that its really growing with the wet hair shot:

Woo growth! I think I can call APL now.

My millionth attempt to post grrrrrrr.....

My measurements in January are 38.5 inches
My measurements in February are 40 inches

I have never measured before until January, and am only doing it out of curiosity. Im not here to obsses about numbers. So I have no real idea of my average growth rate. Only thing i have done different is starting in January I do a whole head applications of castor oil for my seborrhea. I have also poured leftover coffee on my head during a wash. My hair is unbrushed and still drying in February pic. i am aware the angle is slightly different in both pics, trying to fix that, also I have no clue as to how big my pics may be as I am on my phone

Swan Maiden, it definitely looks like you got some growth! Castor oil has been very helpful for encouraging growth for me, it's nice to hear it can help with SD as well.

Thank you, it is nice to have some outside confirmation! I am happy that a side effect of treating my SD is getting growth. :)

Swan Maiden! Your hair grows so FAST! That is great winter growth. I hear hair grows slower in the winter than the summer I don't know how true it is as I have never paid any attention before.

Thank you Daylily. I am guessing it is a growth fluke, I am a natural skeptic, but I will continue measuring just to get a feel for my growth cycle.

Swan Maiden! OMG it's so much growth! Amazing! Coffee must have worked. I'm using green tea spritz and had some growth but I think in normal range.
Moontree I think you had a lot of growth too!

I'm just quickly dropping by in this thread to say that I'm opting out of the project. Benign neglect is working so much better for me than checking my length all the time so I'll do that instead. I will follow everyone's progress, though. :)

Heres my February pic, I took 1cm off just after my January pic so not much to show. Ive also added a pic of my hair in its natural scruffy state as it clearly shows a demarcation line with my taper, and explains my rather sad hemline. A work in progress people, a work in progress!!!

Whoop! I'm seeing lots of growth! :)

My hair-photo day is creeping up next week (but may take it tomorrow as it is easier to do so at the weekend than during the week).
Hopefully mine has grown a little bit too. However, considering my S&D sessions are more like trims, probably not.

I'm not going to name everyone but nice growth and really pretty hair :)! I love looking at everyone's photos.

My hair hasn't really grown - or it has but I went for a trim this month. I did get a photographer (my boyfriend ;) ) so my photos will be more clear and I can take them at the same place in the house :)

This was my January shot:

I see growth on everyone!
Here is my pic from this morning.
My hair hasn't grown.
Or it has grown about 1/4 inch. I thought it was more, but I have S&Ded a lot...
But yeah, I see no difference. :)

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a134/magikspiffy/HairFeb.png (http://s10.photobucket.com/user/magikspiffy/media/HairFeb.png.html)

ETA: I remeasured, somehow I was doing it wrong. I'm 36'' now. YAY! :D Although, still very little growth compared to others, and of course, it is the racers on the tip of my hair, so overall, it all looks the same.

Aww! Thanks so much guys! You are all the sweetest. I really wasn't feeling super great about my hair today (needs washing, got caught in stuff >.<)

Thanks squirrrel! (I love your username!! Also love squirrels). It's weird, because I can't imagine my hair any other way (it has always been thick and heavy), so would probably feel weird to have less - but I do wish it weighed less, believe it or not that plait pulled a lot :(

Thanks :flower:
They are. :) I've never dyed my hair (although I might dipdye the ends with a deposit only dye), but I used to live in sunny Spain, so that hair which has seen more beaches, swimming pools and sun is definitely lighter. Especially when my hair is unwashed and it is greasier at the top, I think it makes the contrast greater. I do wish all of my hair was lighter though. If only the UK was sunnier.

I like your username as well... And knowing a few LHC people in the same time zone (I'm up in Scotland...)

Anyway, I'll bet the braid weighed a fair amount. Being a small medium for thickness, I can't really imagine it, but from pic's and the like I know your hair has to be at least twice as thick as mine is (wouldn't surprise me if you could fit into a iiii category if we were to have such a thing). Plus, I haven't reached waist as yet, which means you've extra length weight to deal with as well.

Nearing wash day or not, your hair is gorgeous, and you'll just have to come here and get reminders of that fact any time it annoys you. Throw it up one way or another and forget about it, and come and remind yourself you have many people online who love how your hair looks. :)

Lots of lovely hair! Im betting we should see some more growth in a couple months when the sap begins to flow.
