So I was eyeing this product up: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jazooli-Quality-Nontoxic-Temporary-Pastels/dp/B00O4NXSW6/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1418492551&sr=8-13&keywords=hair+chalk#customerReviews

I've been considering trying out some veggie non permanent dye on my ends, and then remembered this concept of hairchalking and thought it might be better to try out the waters.
I've heard it is drying and / or can go over your clothes, so it will probably be an experiment for right before I wash - but was wondering if anyone had tried this out and what they thought of it?

That's cool!
I also came across this, which actually looks pretty good - anyone tried out BriteLites?

^^ that stuff confuses me. i actually talked to the girl selling it on etsy for clarification, and i'm still confused. they're very good at explaining what the product is *not* but they haven't really nailed down how to explain what it *is*. to me, it looks almost like a gel, but the girl explained it as a "less waxy crayon." also, she said one "unit" was good for 30 applications, but that an application is a few streaks.

I see! That is confusing indeed.
By looking at the ingredients it looks like they've made an oily version of chalk so it isn't as "drying", but indeed - there is little other information (maybe because the patent is pending and they don't want someone to discover the formula?)
Basically I felt like I would want to experiment with different colours and styles (streaks, ombre etc...) before taking the plunge and trying out some Directions or Manic Panic.
That said, pastina - you are my muse of coloured hair - as yours is bright and beautiful.
I don't think I would dare bleach my hair, but I'm hoping the brighter colours will show on my ends (which are lighter from having seen the sun more)

aw, thank you! your ends do seem quite a bit lighter (based on your avatar). i'd bet that you could get a nice semi-permanent color to show up over that with no problem. what type of color are you thinking about trying? i might be able to help you pick a shade/brand, or it might be helpful to check out the unbleached hair gallery on beeunique. http://www.hairdyegallery.co.uk/unbleachedpage1.html

So I ordered the chalk in the end because I think it would be nice to try out styles (streaks vs. ombre) as well as different colours, but I was thinking of doing tips or streaks in pink or red (or any colour that doesn't fade out via green or blue, or that fades via nice colours).
I had my eyes on Directions Atomic Pink, which I could acquire very cheaply, or if not perhaps Manic Panic which has the UV glow- but all advice would be greatly appreciated as I have never dyed my hair.
I have noticed that there are different varieties of reds-pinks-oranges in both Directions and Manic Panic, but I don't know which shade would look better with my hair :p
