Hi, long time reader, first time poster. (I'm shy, sorry)

So, I'm panicking right now. I just got my hair to the perfect shade of light red with henna two days ago, (I am naturally dark brown, I had to bleach my hair to get the color I wanted, and I've used henna twice since) but it straightened my hair out a bit, and I like my waves. I had heard that using amla alone could restore some wave to hair, I didn't want to use it in my henna because I didn't want to tone the red down any. So, I got a box of hesh amla powder, mixed it with some coconut and olive oil, and put in on my hair for an hour. I didn't realize it would stain on it's own, and my hair has darkened considerably, especially so the length which is probably much more damaged than the hair on my scalp. What I would like to know, is the amla stain permanent? Or will it fade eventually on it's own, and if so, how long does that take? Is there any way to remove it? I don't care about the wave anymore, I just want to get my hair lighter again. I don't want to bleach, but I will if I have to.

Any answer would be much appreciated!

I had the same thing happen to my hennad hair when using amla in a conditioning mix. It did fade after a while but I can't remember how long it took. You will need to henna again to get the red back though. You could try honey to lighten it which should speed up the process.

If you want to bring out curl then a methi seed pack might help that.

It will fade with time... Went through the same thing a while ago:)

Thank you so much for your answers, that makes me feel a lot better. I guess I'll have to wait it out then, but it's good to know I'm not stuck with it. :) And thanks for the tip about methi seeds, I hadn't heard of that, I'll have to try it.

Alma is a deposit stain it generally fades in only a couple of washes. It will take a bit longer on the damaged parts but probably not that much more.

In addition to the amla fading, bear in mind that henna will oxidize over the course of a few days, so some of the darkening effect may have been due to oxidizing as well as the amla.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure it isn't just the henna oxidation process because the hair on my scalp (where I had less amla) is still fiery and bright. I'm trying a honey treatment right now hoping to lighten a bit, so I can use another application of henna. :)
