View Full Version : A question of colour

Hi, I have been dying my hair for some time now, the ends are dark brown. However, as I am becoming lighter and the greys are coming through thick and fast, I changed to dying it lighter to blend the greys in with the view of colouring less and less so the greys can come into their own.

I am not yet ready to go grey naturally just yet though. The greys are pretty and almost platinum in places, but I still want some colour.

Here is my dilemma. My hair is fine and if left to go grey naturally, my scalp is more visible which is not a good look. I am thinking of my options.

I could carry on using the same hair dye which is a semi permanent, but lasts as my hair is porous.

I could put in darker low lights to pick up what is left of my darker hair whilst continuing to blend in the greys using my usual dark blonde dye. Alternatively, I could just lowlight it without the extra colour and let the greys come through, eliminating the need to retouch every month which is less damaging to my hair. I have included some pictures so you can see what I mean. I apologise for the sizing of these as I don't know how to resize.

Please can you give me some advice on what to do as i am in a bit of a dilemma.

Thanks

Finally, these are my ends at present, showing the darkest part of my hair and the dye I used then

Sorry this has been pictureheavy, but I wanted to show the issue I have as best as I could.
Thank you for your help:pray:

I am no expert and I have not reached a more prominent stage of greying yet, but I will say that it was great to see how the hair grows out in your pictures with the darker ones under the top hairs. I have always wondered how the process goes.

As far as your dilemma, honestly, I would go to a professional the first time around and let them blend the greys into that blonde you like using, and then afterwards, you can do it at home and maintain a less permanent solution with a lighter base. I know others with more experience will chime in soon.

Thanks DweamGoil, I have been wondering about that, but was worried about having a permanent colour put in because of the length of my hair,it is at waist now.
