Heya!
I was randomly scrolling through tumblr, looking at colorful hair's pictures....and i was wondering one thing: how do these girls who has loooong hairs bleached and then dyed in crazy colors manage to keep up with the bleaching damage?
What's their secret?

My first bet would probably be extensions.
My second thought may be that their hair was already fairly light, thus needing less bleach and toner to get the right tone and dye on the top.
Do you have any links to these examples though? I have seen some colourful hair, but a lot of it seems either retouched, extensions, or actually quite dry.

Some could be wigs and extentions. But otherwise the lenghts are not so long. I am sure there were lots of damage done to some of the hairs. But the thing is, the hair strenght isn't same for everyone. Some hair is "ok" with all the bleachind, and some would fry and just start breaking off.
I have a light pink wig and everyone though that I coloured my hair :D

The thing with bleaching is you only need to do it once, and just touch up the roots. So bleached hair could very well be in better condition than hair that's been dyed with box dye over and over again. The funky colors themselves are not damaging.

Yeah, got what you say and i can't but being envious. XD My hair is so temperamental and fragile they gets damaged only by looking at them.
btw i've also got a ton of wigs and i love wearing them. (the mermaid blue/tourquoise one i had last months is lovely, i'd wear it everyday if i could)

Gotcha, but i guess there's going to be a lot of work maintaining so heavily bleached hair in health, that's what i was thinking and i was wondering how they do so

Could you fake it with different strands of brightly colored yarn or silk strands?

Eventually they chop it all off. Just got through reading about a girl who has totally ruined her hair, made it feel like brillo pads when dry. They don't get by without paying dearly.

It's possible to color hair carefully and prevent or minimize damage. If they already have light hair, they might just be using manic panic or some other kind of mild dye. I would also guess that there are some extensions in there too. In some subcultures where people have long, colorful hair, like emo and scene, extensions are very much the norm.

Some of them are just extensions or wigs. Like this one: https://33.media.tumblr.com/4853075cb8790c9a3fc27ac32e01d1bf/tumblr_ndsxpv1sH51tjyd8ho1_500.jpg
My sister's got a colourful wig, which is so realistic that she's been asked many times if it was her real hair.
StellaKatherine, that braid is so beautiful!

I had blue hair for over a year. Bleached it a few times, yes the whole length. There is some damage, but only the very end, which I've cut most of it off. I have found that using the drugstore box dyes to try to cover over the bleach is what did my hair in more. When it was blue it was super healthy, I did the same things I do now. Wash only once a week, use coconut oil and leave-in conditioners and treat it gently. I really miss it, but my hair grows about 1" a month or so so the roots were a pain to take care of by myself. Also if the blue was a perm instead of a deposit only I think I would have kept it. dying it with the MP made it feel very healthy, but my towels and tub (I take baths so the end where my head would sit would get stained) didn't like it. I basically only went back to natural colors due to the ease of taking care of it. Not having to bleach it all the time, or dye it all the time. I didn't mind roots, but I much preferred the solid blue. It was just too much upkeep.
