I'm going to be Ms Frizzle (from the Magic School Bus) for a costume party, and am looking for advice on how to create her hair.

I'm planning on damp braiding into 6 or so french braids to make my naturally wavy hair extra curly, then leave it parted down the middle, and I guess create a high bun. But I'm not sure what bun would look best or stay up best. I'm not very handy with many styles, but have lots of bobby pins and a jeterfork and some hairties and am willing to try anything!

Any ideas?

That looks like a cinnamon bun on the top, doesn't it? You could leave a few strands of hair out of the bun, and curly just those, so that you don't have to damp all of your hair. It sounds like a funny costume, will you show us pictures when it's done?

Or a loose vortex bun to make it look bigger? I love this idea by the way and definitely want pics!!

I'd be tempted to do rag curls instead of just braids to really get curls, and then bun it as best you can.

A beehive style vortex?

It looks like a high cinnamon bun, which I like to keep up with amish pins.

Also, I have to ask, what kind of dress are you going to wear for your costume?

There are so many dresses to choose from. She wore a different one for every episode.

I would do a cinnamon bun with lots of curly wispies left out. The dress is that I want to see!

Thanks guys!! I found a blue, knee-length, 3/4-sleeve dress at a thrift store and have a white collared shirt to go under it. She always wore a different dress depending on the topic of the day, so I'm going with the classic space theme - I cut moons, stars, suns, and Saturns out of felt and glued them down with fabric glue. I'm really excited! :) Unfortunately the dress is about one size too small, so hopefully I don't burst any buttons before the party is over! I'll definitely post pictures when I can...

Well the hair didn't turn out all that great but the dress was pretty cool. :) I tried a 3-strand vortex bun for the first time, which turned out really cool and head-eating but was way too flat. So I compromised by doing a 2-strand vortex. I still didn't get the height I wanted, but it was alright. I wish I could have left more wispies out, but since I haven't had layers cut into my hair in over a year, even my shortest layers would have been APL and looked weird. Oh well. At least people at the party knew who I was!

Awesome! I love/d Ms. Frizzle!

(I think the volume/height of her bun could only be realistically achieved with a foam insert under the bun to give height and looseness to the surrounding hair, but you did a great job!)
