LongCurlyTress, you just need to right-click on your picture in your folder, select "copy image location"
Then go back to your reply window, click on the third icon from the right (which says "insert image") on the panel on top, paste (Ctrl + V) the link to your picture, and click OK. :)

I'm a bit confused because ii says it's 2-4" :/

I'm pretty sure that's ii which is medium thickness

I could be wrong so someone please correct me if I am but I think its:

i - up to just under 2 inches
ii - 2 to just under 4 inches
iii - 4 plus inches

I suppose 4 inches is considered ii then
You're right

Or is it:

I - up to 2 inches
ii -over 2 inches to 4 inches
iii - over 4 inches

From the visual hairtyping guide:

i - thin (less than 2 inches/5 centimeters)
ii - average (between 2-4 inches or 5-10 centimeters)
iii - thick (more than 4 inches/10 centimeters)

"When to use the in-between classifiers - examples of indecisive hair syndrome
There are lots of different reasons why you can choose an in-between classifier. It is not an exclusive list and just meant to give you an idea for when to pick an in-between classifier.

If you are getting inconsistent measurements for the over all volume of your hair every time you try. 3.5 inches one time, the next time slightly above 4 inches. Or if it's right at 4 inch."

In the Visual Hairtyping thread, they write that ii/iii works if you're right at 4 inches. :)

Thank you! My hair care routine is sooooooo not LHC approved right now but my hair seems to like it. I don't self trim. It's too short to do that yet. I've had good luck at a Great Clips by me. The ladies there have been wonderful about just trimming enough so that my layers don't look bizarre while growing them out.

I've got bangs, so this isn't all of it. I measure inconsistently between 4.75 and 5.25 without bangs. It isn't long yet but its longer than it looks as you can see in the second pic. Because I've been accused sometimes of imagining that my hair is thick because its curly, here's a picture from two years ago of my flat-ironed hair. That's all mechanical damage--it was the first time I had flat ironed in 12 years and the curls had been disguising how broken off and dry and messed up it was. Thank God for LHC.

October 19th, 2014, 06:19 PM
Thanks for the lovely compliments, Crumpet, Lapushka and UndineOmega. My hair does feel very soft nowadays thanks to good treatment, Crumpet. It didn't before. UndineOmega, did length and heaviness drag your curls and make them looser? they are still gorgeous. I think I have 40-60% shrinkage, its more when my hair has been more recently wet (washday), but its hard to be sure--it varies with the weather, with what I used in it (homemade flax seed gel, for instance, makes me curl a lot more) and with--I don't know what. It will be an adventure finding out how curly I stay as I grow longer. I had one aunt who looked as if she had 3a or 3b hair, but everyone told me that she had once cut her hair short and found out to her surprise that it was an afro! Instead of a bob. Her hair was waistlength unstretched. So we'll just have to see. I do think I would cut my hair if it turned out I had NO curls anymore, but that seems highly highly unlikely, so I'm not worried about it, and anyway, I have YEARS to go before my hair appears to be long at all.
Back on the subject, mine is still obviously crazy thick but does not seem AS thick since growing more, in fact I would have thought it thinned out a little except for the fact that my braid keeps getting fatter? Something about it being longer makes it seem less thick? Has this happened to anybody else? I have no idea why this would be, and maybe I am just crazy (bad at judging anything about my hair, very 'hairorexic' if you know what I mean.)

I always got my hair thinned out at shorter lengths. It just seemed ridiculously bushy. I didn't get it thinned on one hair cut and had to come in a few weeks later because it was starting to feel and look more like fur(think a lions mane) than hair. Fun but not the look I was going for. As it's grown out it has become more in proportion and the "OMG! It's so thick!" thing has kind of faded.

UndineOmega
October 20th, 2014, 02:53 AM
Mine feels thinner as it gets longer even though the braid remains the same thickness-wise.
My theory is that as the hair gets longer it acquires more of the movement or flow normally associated with thinner hair (i.e. your braid doesn't stick out like a rod anymore but actually flows down your back etc.).

Thanks, CathyGo and UndineOmega. This is interesting. I hope my hair doesn't lose all its
'special' qualities, though. I always think the Pippi Longstocking braids are kind of fun (she must be very thick) and right now, if I make just ONE braid and french braid it upwards, maybe because I'm also so curly, it will actually stay sticking straight up in the air. Like, perpendicular. Completely defying gravity. (Even two won't do that, they just go sideways, not up). Its kind of cool--makes it easy to do buns, and also, little kids find it very thrilling to see.

I already posted my pic on this thread, but I'm getting bummed out. One of my friends HATES thick hair (I love love love it) and she keep smaking rude comments about how I really should get my hair thinned because it's too thick and that it'd look a lot prettier if it was thinner. Even though I don't wear my hair DOWN at all anymore, I still have a really thick braid, and I KNOW that I'm not going to thin my hair EVER, it still sucks that someone really just doesn't like my hair. :(
So I thought to complain to you guys LOL

I already posted my pic on this thread, but I'm getting bummed out. One of my friends HATES thick hair (I love love love it) and she keep smaking rude comments about how I really should get my hair thinned because it's too thick and that it'd look a lot prettier if it was thinner. Even though I don't wear my hair DOWN at all anymore, I still have a really thick braid, and I KNOW that I'm not going to thin my hair EVER, it still sucks that someone really just doesn't like my hair. :(
So I thought to complain to you guys LOL

That seems so odd to me. Why in the world would someone hate thick hair? Anyway, I'm glad that you aren't ever planning to thin it! I had hairdressers thin my hair back when I had my pixie, and now my hemline looks rough because there are chunks missing from the thinning. :(

Yes, it sucks because most of us would like to live in blissful harmony with others, especially those closest to us. It is also true that total harmony and sameness of thought is very rarely achieved.

An average friendship is based on finding common ground; as long as both parties agree, the friendship flourishes, and when they disagree, the friendship is over. But a great friendship is proven truly great when we no longer agree but still can accept and value our differences.

If you are her really good friend, you will still be her friend even though she doesn't love every thing about you. You will probably never meet someone who truly loves everything about you. Indeed, do you love every little thing about yourself? Probably not, but aren't you still friends with yourself? I think most people love themselves, and try to change what they don't like, and accept what can't be changed. It is just the same with a really good friend. Love her, but tell her that you really love love love your thick hair, and while you value her opinion, you will not thin your hair. And then accept her and love her even though she might continue to make rude comments.

And if you love both yourself and her enough, then you shouldn't be bummed out just because she doesn't love everything about you. Instead, feel uplifted by the love you feel for yourself and the love you choose to feel for her even when she is being mean.

FallingDarkness, it totally sucks that one of your friends hates thick hair. :( Kudos to not listening to her negativity, though! I will never do layers again after what I put up with in high school.

I always think the Pippi Longstocking braids are kind of fun

I was Pippi Longstocking for a Halloween when I was little. My Mom used coat hangers to make them really stick out straight but the first 3 or 4 inches of braid didn't need any help. It was great and I really regret that there are no photos of it.

I actually have a pretty even taper, but the waviness gives it visual thickness. An equivalent wet hair picture would show that clearly.

Here's an optimistic shot of my III/IV hair when it's loose. Technically it's from August, but I'm maintaining my length so that's fine. On a normal basis, it looks like the second shot.

Here is a pic of my hair. I like it because I'm mid dance, and I think it kind of looks like I'm underwater. It was taken about 3/4 years ago, so that dye has grown out.

Sharysa, I totally understand why you want to maintain the length you/we are at. :) Yours is so beautiful, and I know how much "fun" our hair can be,:disgust: especially going into the rainy/humid season. I am just going to continue using oils on my hair and then wet bunning it to get through the winter. :shrug:What do you do to keep your hair sanity in the rainy/winter season? I am considering maintaining at 31 inches also, since my hemline is now a bit raggedy and I would like to even it up. But then I watch a ytube video with Tinkerbell, or JJJLonghair and I put down those scissors! :) WE have alot of hair!! Good thing I get a lot of joy out of admiring beauty like this as I don't think I'll make hair length like yours. Not in this life. Wish I never had it cut in my lifetime and that terminal would be anywhere near your length would be sheer luck, as well. Here's a very recent picture of mine. It's a ii right now, but at the high end of ii. I had a lot of shedding following my father's death while I was stuck in Ohio waiting for probate. I am not eagerly awaiting that cloud of dandelion fluff when it starts growing back in, if it ever does. I'm reaching the age where shed hair does not necessarily grow back. Follicles have an expiration date.

it's heavily layered, even in the back there are top sections that reach my chin and I have front pieces that reach my lips
I've been keeping it at BSL and it's been bleached and dyed and I think the bleach has made my hair feel and look thicker than it actually is http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc370/kidari4/9c1698a0-4cb8-486a-a1ec-0f357fd194d2_zpsjz4cz95w.jpg

mine is ii/iii if I measure it on a good day it's 4" to 4.24" but sometimes when I measure it's almost 4" around 3.75"
it's heavily layered, even in the back there are top sections that reach my chin and I have front pieces that reach my lips

Bleach did that to me for a while, keeping me up there well over 4 inches. I'm 4.25" now at minimum, sometimes it's more, but I don't tend to measure all that often. Bleach does that for some reason. Henna did that to me too.

Too short to be called a mane, but here we go anyways ;)

Used to be more solid iii (13-14cm), but since I cut bangs I've been around 10,5cm or something.

I don't think follicles have an expiration date, Spidermom. The older I get, the thicker my hair gets. I have much more hair today than I did 30 years ago.

This thread is full of thudworthy manes everywhere :thud:
I also came here to admire, but I'm leaving a bit confused, my ponytail is between 3,5 and 3,7 inches, yet it seems to be similar thickness than many of yours posting here. Am I measuring wrong? Should I change my classifier to ii/iii? :hmm:

That elven crown is so beautiful, Kiiruna...!

Gosh I had forgotten all about this thread! I've just looked at all the lovely hair again, all of it is so beautiful! Spidermom, your hair will regrow, I'm sure!

Anyway here's mine: circumference of 4.25". On the thinner end of "thick".

This is from a couple of weeks back! I had a tiny bit of tighter braid wave going on at the sides, but otherwise it's pretty true to how my hair looks most of the time.

Thank you. I also posted that pic in the 'Colourful longhairs' thread, is that allowed? (Same pic more than one forum?)
