Hello, being new on here I thought the best way to meet the people of this community would be by creating a thread. I am a hair loving (slightly obsessed even...) 17 year old aspiring photographer from Europe, that being said; I love pictures. But enough about me, I would love to see your hair before/when you started growing it, and how it is now. Or if you like myself have always had long hair; this is the place to show off your beautiful locks :o

I apologize if a similar thread has already been created.

Merlin, yes I am an aspiring 'photographer' not 'model' and of course I do have some self portraits, but very few and none of them are recent. As I have struggled with anorexia in the past, building up confidence can take a little longer for me. I do believe you as an adult could have welcomed a 17 y/o girl in a more open way.

Ooo... fun thread.

I think I'll be weird and go Before, Chop, After... why? because it's fun XD

This is a few days before my chop (and my brother's wedding... his wife wanted me to still have long hair). My hair is naturally dead straight and do NOT take a perm well, much less heat curling. These curls are a product of at least one bottle of gel, two bottles of hairspray, and some "serum". There was no heat used (thankfully), instead it was sprayed down/soaked, pinned in little loops, and left for a few hours. It took me a few days to get all the product out of my hair... and it still felt bad even after.

Here's a pic a few months after my chop when I tried out a professionally done burgundy dye on the tips of my hair (note, she did not bleach the hair prior per my request, so it did NOT stick...)

Luana, it's important for you to realize that we often have issues with people asking for photos here who ... really like long hair. Most of us are a bit wary of catering to those peoples' whims. Even those who don't have hangups about their photos being used for those purposes often do have a problem with the idea that their photo could be spread all over the internet without their consent or control (an issue that I'm sure an aspiring photographer would be sensitive to). We don't know whether you're a 17 year old girl, or a 45 year old posing as a 17 year old, or even an ad agency hoping to nab some royalty-free pictures that they can claim come from using whatever product.

So yes, it's not unusual for people to respond to picture requests with, "you first." We're not trying to be hostile around here, but many of us are guarded.

Well, of course, and that is completely understandable too. I am indeed sensitive to this issue, having your photo spread certainly is not a pleasant thing. I just wish I would have received a slightly more informative comment, such as yours (which I appreciate btw), instead of a judgemental one. I shall try asking a friend to snap a photo of my hair by the end of this week or next.

No problem :o I actually checked the 'Visual Hairtyping Guide' last night and I believe my hair would probably go under the type 1c atm, however my hair was actually straight as a kid, but having a lot of curly genes in my family, my hair is getting more wavy as I grow older. Medium strands. Length; however, I have not checked for quite a while but it is somewhere between tailbone and classic :)

We had LOTS of snow that winter, that is sure thing ;) When I look at 2012 photo I still not sure if I should live as a curly or comb and BB brush my hair... It seems, my hair looks healthier and shinier when brushed.......... :)

Btw, amazing results in your hair in such a short amount of time! :flower:

July 2014 (it's grown 1+ inch since then)

I cut from longest back to waist and layered because I had thousands of split ends that made my hair hard to handle, plus I injured my left wrist. The shorter length and improved condition made it much easier to deal with my hair. It's so nice to have to look for split ends instead of seeing too many to count every time I look at the ends of my hair! I hope I can keep the good condition while I grow out my hair again.

Welcome to LHC Luana :)
I know what it's like not having time to take care of my hair, I really do. Before the first picture, I was an every day shampooer and straightened my hair almost every day because of school.

*took out picture because of my ugly face*

And then a picture after joining LHC (last month) is on my profile. Ah my hair is so happy that I care about it. And I am loving the way it feels now!

fun thread, I absolutely love before and after/ progression over time pictures!

My hair has changed quite a bit- I did not used to henna, kept my hair at about bsl, and also wore it curled because I had the patience to pin curl at that length (and also the curls didn't fall out like they do now with length!) This is in october (I think?) 2012,

Wow! You all have such stunning pictures both before and after!

I just dug up some older pictures..

This one is back in 2008(its the best one I can find), I wish I had found LHC back then. This is when I started to grow my hair out. I didn't know anything about growing long healthy hair so I listened to my hair stylist, she recommended trims every 6-8 weeks, dyes, shampoos and a perm that would help handle my frizz. Thank goodness I never got that perm!

This one is in 2012, two years after discovering LHC, natural hair care and how to properly care for curly/wavy hair.

This is a few months ago, I still need to get a more recent one but my hair is about an inch from BSL curly and below BSL when wet. My hair is growing extremely slow but now that Im looking at the timeline it is a huge improvement :) Thanks LHC!!

Me too! I've found a new true love in natural hair care, and I'm never going back - I only wish I'd known about it sooner! :D Knowing what I know now, I realize that lot of the advice hair stylists give is extremely bad... as much as I hate to say it, I think they don't actually care about anyone's hair, they just want to maximize their profits... :(
