The ponytail circumference thread has shed light on the fact that thinner haired beauties aren't feeling much love from LHC, so this thread is for positivity and encouragement. But most of all, pictures! Pictures of healthy, long, thin hair is so helpful and inspiring to i or i/ii folks who feel that their hair can't look nice when it's long, because it absolutely can. Mine is average, so I won't post my length/action shot, I'll leave that to the thin haired folks. :) Post away!

Edit: Short + thin haired folks, please post your pictures as well! This thread is for thin hair pictures of any length, colour, and texture. :)

What a lovely idea! I'm on the low end of ii too and I've always hesitated about posting a length shot because I felt it would look puny compared to the luscious iii locks on here. If I can get a decent shot I'll post too.

As much as I might appreciate the compliment...having thin hair to me is awful. I feel so lame with a thin long braid, and it looks even worse if you're not super thin, because it looks even thinner in comparison to an average back/kinda big butt.

Also, it doesn't look so impressive as a thick braid...instead of looking like a fairytale princess or some sort of warrior or heck even like Katniss from the Hunger Games you end up looking like an old retired villain from a chinese kung fu movie.

I'm grateful I have hair on my head, and when it's loose it looks like it's a lot, but still, thick hair always looks better...

I'm right in the middle of ii (7.5 cm or 3" circumference) but I am glad to see this thread. Once again, I really just don't fit anywhere with my thickness/thinness (depending on whether you say mine is thick or thin... I've been told both many times, but mostly thin).

I am not i, I am on the low end of ii, so I think I count. I hope I won't put off any i people from posting. My circumference is *mumble mumble* inches. Here are two pictures. One on light clothing and one on dark.

I've actually noticed that clothing close to my hair color makes my wispy ends disappear, so my hair looks x inches shorter. I'm a light brown/dark blonde but for some reason my hair seems to like black shirts.

Perhaps I am wrong about that? I guess I just assumed because I haven't tried it with lighter hair. Maybe it's just darker clothing in general that helps?

I think my plait is a similar thickness. Do you know Mr. Skinny (I think it was?) from the Mr. Men? I think of my braid like that. You can see it when it's flat on from the front, but when you turn it sideways it almost disappears :/ The more I wear one though, the more I am getting used to see it like that and I mind less. Since it's the one I see most, it's starting to look more normal.

Welcome, Divinedobbie and Pixidust! I hope we get to see your awesome pictures soon. I get what you mean about being intimidated, so I hope that this thread can feel like a safe space to post in. :)

MidnightMoon: Many fairies in novels and paintings have been depicted with long, floaty hair. Their thinner hair has a delicate, feminine beauty, and often looks shiny and silky. I have certainly seen pictures of thinner hair on LHC that looks silky, delicate and beautiful. Thick hair isn't the ultimate standard of beauty, or of "good hair". Some folks with thick hair covet the effortlessly manageable and feminine look of thinner hair, as well as a thinner haired person's ability to do intricate buns at shorter lengths.

cathair: Gorgeous mane! Fairy tale ends look perfect on you, and your waves look like soft, romantic tendrils. Beautiful! :) I totally agree with you about dark clothes being more forgiving on dark hair, and light clothes more forgiving on light hair. My ends definitely look more see through when I wear dark clothing, since my hair is so light. I actually avoiding wearing black, because any shed hair stands out like a sore thumb, it's too big of a contrast.

Yes, there is absolutely nothing wrong with thin(ner) hair. This thread is to celebrate it, IMO, not to feel shame for it. Every thickness has its downside and good side.

I"m happy being a ii. and knowing I have lower density (because my hair is M/C) what's got me bummed out right now is that my circumference has dropped half a cm. and that worries me as I'm only shedding between 80-110 hairs per day (guesstimate) so why would it have dropped. Usually I'm 3.9 inches and now I"m 3.75. I just hope it doesn't keep dropped, I have no reason for it to drop. Before my baby, I would shed 150 per day and maintained my ponytail at 3.75". It went up with the baby that little bit, but now shedding "normal", it's gone down.

But your shed, do you know what it is from?? Do you keep shedding more or is it staying stable (the shed). I don't understand why mine (the shed) is less than what it used to be, but it's affecting my ponytail measurement, and when I shed more, it didn't change.

Only things I could think of is that you were overcounting before, any kind of change in routine or wash/styling method that makes the hair compact more now, or you're measuring more tightly now. Have you cut in layers or bangs or anything since?

You are very welcome. :) I'm the biggest sucker for waves, and yours are amazing. I'm probably in the middle of the ii scale, like LauraLongLocks. I'm kind of a techno-peasant, so I don't post many pictures, but I have a picture of my dutch braid as my profile picture on my page, and to me it looks like it's around the middle of ii. But I don't measure, so I can't know for sure. :)

WOW! That shine is incredible! :thud: Most people say that they envy straight hair because of the shine, but I feel like my hair just looks lighter when the sun hits it. Sometimes to the point where people ask me if I've used dye; nope, it's just the lighting. Not that I'm complaining, but my hair never looks so glossy like yours does, it's breathtaking. Do you do henna or cassia?

Gentle reminder: the spirit of this thread is positivity and celebration of i, i/ii, and lower end of ii hair. There are plenty of threads on LHC that address increase in shedding, plenty of threads that discuss thickening methods, and many, many threads that contain praise and admiration for thicker hair. This thread is not meant to be one of those places. If we could stick to praising thinner hair, and sharing pictures of beautiful, inspiring thinner hair, that would be very much appreciated. :)

Thank you! :) The first two pics are pre henna, the second two are after a 20 minute henna application. My hair was always pretty shiny but then I killed it with some bleach and dye experimentation and it's mostly grown out from the chemicals (80% or so) and now I'm beginning the growing out journey again as I've decided I don't like henna.

Ravenheather, beautiful!

I don't have a current pic, but I have one from a couple of months ago (maybe three?). I don't think a length shot exists of my hair without a black/dark shirt on! :p This was before my shed got quite so bad; I've lost more now. Regardless, I'm always a true i thickness; this pic I was still at 1,75", now I believe I am 1.5".

Please excuse my lopsidedness. I have scoliosis and it was giving me fits that day.

I need to adopt your phrase, because I freak out about everything about my hair. Do you have any idea though, as to why yours went down, extra shedding?? anything?? I just can't figure out why, I mean it looks all good:rolleyes:, no bald spots, or anything, just smaller ponytail.

Well, i have two theories.. I've been going trough an autumn shedding lately. There aren't any bald spots, because my overall shedding has increased, not in particular places. Second theory is my circumference decreased because of moisture. My hair has been drier in the summer and the strands were more "straw like". Now it has lots of moisture and my hair became more flexible and much softer in general, so i think maybe the strands just compress more and my circumference just gone down because of that.

Ohh, I think I never seen your hair like that from the back! Looks beautiful and love al the shades there!!! :crush:

Thank you so much for this thread! I do hope seen a thinner hair in all it's beauty will change people's minds. I have myself about 8cm or 3,14 inches ponytail but I would say it does tapper dramatically. Like LauraLongLocks I am kinda in no man's land where sometimes people say to me that I have thick hair and sometimes especially when it is bunned or braided, that I have thin :) Like I leave it in a single braid and hear " ohhh, your hair so long, but the braid is so thin.."

LongHairLesbian, from the braid photo on your profile I would say you look like a high end of ii, maybe even crossing with iii :D Smart thing though not to measure the thickness! I wish I would never take a single braid photo or measurement ;)

I know exactly what you mean. I really need to loose a LOT of weight especially because eather my braid makes me look fatter or me making the braid look thinner. But what ever the reason I am not happy at all!

I am lately making a 5 strand braid instead of 3 strand, as that way I kinda get slightly thicker looking braid!

Im an average ii at ponytail but mine starts to thin out at about APL so most of it is really i. And its going to take me years to figure out if its natural taper or damage that does it *sigh*.
Id love a big fat plait though, or at least not to look at someones accent braid and realiese that its pretty much the same as all my hair!LOL. I suspect us thinner haired girls are much more comfortable in hot weather though!:D

I love this thread! The braid picture posted by fiorildi is wonderful because it looks about as thick as mine at the top, and I was worried about how mine will look when it is longer (I'm sorry I can't type your name correctly fiorildi, I don't have the correct character on my keyboard!)

I am a solid 3 inches, which I am generally happy with. Seeing photos of beautiful hair that is of similar thickness to mine is great!

Cathair, your hair is just gorgeous! Lovely waves and fairy-tales.
divinedobbie wow that shine is incredible! What beautiful glossy hair. We have roughly the same circumfere nce so it's great to see someone else's hair that's in the same area of ii.
rags and nuvola you both have beautiful shiny hair. And gorgeous colours too!

Thanks everyone! :flower:

Nuvola, if your hair is over 2 inches you are in solid ii territory. And you have beautiful hair! I love the shine!

My braid is even thinner than the one posted and I wear it anyway. Heck, I have been known to wear DOUBLE braids!! :p If people don't like it they don't have to look. Although comments still hurt, and they do still happen. But I will not let them rule how I wear my hair anymore. Getting older will sometimes do that. :p

Lovely idea for a thread, but it needs more pictures I think! ;)

Here is last month's length picture:

My ponytail circumference is a little under 2.5" (slightly over 6 cm) at the moment.

This is such a great idea for a thread. Sometimes it seems like thick hair gets all the love, but thin hair can be really beautiful as well. Personally I think that thin hair at very long lengths looks so delicate and romantic.

I'm hoping this thread will attract some pictures of updos too. I know that thin-haired folks sometimes struggle with figuring out how to put their hair up, since it seems like most updos are thought up with average to thick hair in mind, but thin hair can be an asset for updos. You can accomplish more intricate styles at shorter lengths, and thin hair is such a chameleon. You can use various techniques to "plump up" an updo, but you can also pull it back into something tight and small for a sleeker look.

So to you thin-haired updo masters, lets see some pics. I'm curious to hear about your techniques, and what your "go to" styles are.

I think that this is very true. I have seen quite a few people say that even at BSL+ they can't do a lazy wrap bun etc. because their hair is just too thick, whereas I was able to do one easily at APL, for which I was very grateful! There are always advantages and disadvantages to any hair-thickness, and this thread will be fantastic to help us focus on the positives :)

I agree! :agree: This is an awesome way to celebrate i & ii thickness, and you guys have as much right to boast about your hair as say someone on the thicker side of ii, and iii does.

OOh Hedara your hair is so silky and soft looking - gorgeous!

The one thing I most dislike about thin hair and updos is how it doesn't show off the intricacies of the undo. I can have all these turns or whatever in it - it just looks like a blob! :p
My go-to undo is a LWB with either a fork or a nautilus with a stick. The LWB with a fork can make your buns look bigger, which is why it's a favorite:
http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv18/raggsj38/hair%20photos/100_3885.jpg (http://s665.photobucket.com/user/raggsj38/media/hair%20photos/100_3885.jpg.html)

A nautilus is simply the best holding bun I've found with a stick, though I'll still have to redo acrylics and TT two or three times a day at least. Ketylos will usually hold all day.

Hmmm ok..it seems like many thin haired ladies have some insecurities about thin hair...

Let me also add that hin or thick does not directly impact hair length. Your terminal capabilities is not affected by how much hair you have on your head (it is affected by how delicate your hair is)

So, if any of you ladies here plan on growing to great lengths.. Take lots of comfort in knowing that you will not be plauged with the issue of hair weight as much as thicker people.. Making up doos much, much more comfortable at long lengths.. Which in turn gives you more variety of updoos you can do.

Thin hair really shines in the department of updoos. You get perks with variety and how soon you can do them and for how long you can do them. When worn down and not compressed, as many pictures show, really it does not look all that different from any other hair thickness.

Point is, there is nothing wrong with having thin hair. It has its perks and disadvantages like any other hair thickness. You can grow it long like any other hair thickness. And the dislike of the thin braid, well i personally think a nice long braid looks awesome regardless of how narrow it is.. I pay more attention to the tapper of the braid than to the narrowness at nape.

And regardless of how narrow, you show me a braid at almost classic, with very little tapper, and i will be trully impressed and envious. ( just because i personally like bluntness)

This reminds me of the curly and straight dilema.... Thick haired ladies and gents want less weight and more ease of buns (the weight is such a problem that there are some people here in lhc who wont grown their hair long because it gets too heavy. And people who cant do anything more than a braid because a bun gives them neck pain. I am sure they wished their hair was a bit thinner... Then there is you fellas who crave the nice thick braid,.. The straight haired girl wants it curly and the curly girl wants it straight )

Okay... My rant is over... Hope i got my point across.. Thick hair is not more desirable than thin hair... You are being brainwashed into glossing over the side effects of thickness and the pros of thin hair... So just apreciate your thin braid becaue it can be just as long and you can always and forever bun it... And we here love our buns.

Marbid, I do think that one of the "problems" some of us have with our thinner hair is that a much greater proportion of us are fineys. Our hair just compacts up! My hair personally, is super baby fine and yes, it does make a difference in growing it - it's very much more delicate. And the finery's and super finery's are the ones much more likely to be at the i end of the spectrum. If my hair were even a little bit thicker or a little bit less fine I'd be happier - but right now I'm very happy just to have hair , so I'm not complaining! :p

Here's the situation of the canopy now.
The circumference of the tail is 6,50 inch (16.5 cm) , about 4 inch in the middle and 2 at the end.
Years ago I lost really a lot, but now they are growing back in. I'll cut because you still notice the difference

Thank you Rags!
I think part of that shine might have been due to some leftover oil though... ;)

Your updos are lovely as usual - I'm a big admirer of your hair colour, too.

Let's see, here are some recent pictures.

First a French Twist (link to Youtube instructions is in a recent journal entry; it's the first time I've found FT instructions that actually worked for me):

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13175&d=1411219496
(my hair looks kind of windblown here; it was fresly washed and parts of it just refused to stay in the updo. My hair is fine as well as very very slippery...)

And a sort of flipped half-cinnabun:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13127&d=1410966824

At around 19 or 20" there are not that many updos I can do yet but yes, thinner hair does make updos possible at much shorter lengths!

I'll play, liking this thread a lot :). So many gorgeous pics, I think each hair type has a uniqueness and beauty all it's own. I have learned to appreciate the pros of my own hair type the older I get, but that hasn't always been the case. Loving the positive vibe of this thread too.

My circumference is ~2.5", it can look like a lot more depending on what the waves are doing that day. I am glad the length seems to be adding weight and helping with the poufy look.

First pic was taken a few days ago for a length shot, which I didn't end up posting, but it looks more like the fine, lower end of ii that I really am. The second shows the waves making it look bigger than it really is.

Wow, this thread has grown a lot! I'm so glad to see all the comments, and the gorgeous length/action shots. :)

@rags: You are one of my favourite people to see pictures from on LHC. Your blonette+silver combo colour, plus your beautiful shine, make seeing your pictures such a treat. :) And those bun pictures are amazing! I love the streaks, and the way the hair toys you chose look against your hair. Your pictures, and your confidence are very inspiring. :)

nuvola: :thud: You and divinedobbie are making me seriously consider henna, because that shine is incredible! And the colour is perfect, basically it's the colour I want. Hmmmm maybe I'll venture over to the henna thread and learn more...

StellaKatherine: I would say I am in this no-man's-land place too, my hair doesn't look thick or thin. Though I have gotten one or two comments of people being surprised when I let my hair down, because they didn't think my bun hid so much length. But I don't get that often, because "natural" buns seem to be more popular here than sock buns. One lady actually thought my hair was thick based on the size of my bun, but only because she though my hair was shorter. Would you post a braid pic, StellaKatherine? I would love to see a braid from someone with your length. :) And yes I think I might focus too much on a measurement if I took one, so I'm glad that I never have, haha. ;)

Hedera: Nice length picture, and your updo pictures are where your hair really looks like something special. :) I am super impressed that you did them at what looks like just past shoulder, but that's the beauty of thinner hair! Your silver streaks add even more shine.

Loving all the pretty manes here!

I will say, I've always been jealous of how LONG thinner braids look. Even though I have much longer hair than some girls, I see it in a braid and think "I wish my hair was that long," and then I see it down, and realize I have a good 6 inches on them. :p

I love seeing braided styles on all thicknesses. I think it's so neat how the same style can look so different with different thicknesses and/or colors. Hope all you i/ii ladies (and gents :D) are feeling the love, and don't forget, there are pros and cons to having thick hair too :).

Hello thin hair LHCers :)

Just to tell you that I love watching videos of very long hair people, and like everybody, I crave to have my hair longer, thicker, etc. etc. lol. But very surprisingly, the video I most fell in love with was not showing the most gorgeous mane at all : it's a video showing a middle age woman with very long and very thin black hair. No special color, no particular volume, no gorgeous waves, a lot of taper and long irregular fairytaled ends. So why was this hair so appealing to me ??

I don't know really. A kind of charm... This lady has something that the others don't have : a sort of genuine playful innocence. She dances with her hair in a both graceful and awkward manner, as if she were dancing with some best friend with whom she has an very intimate complicity. This makes it magic ! Her happiness and love for her hair is soooo contagious !... :queen:

I love this video and I still look at it every now and then ! It's motivating me to go on growing my hair and imagine that one day I will maybe feel like her (if I get the length^^) : dancing freely with my hair floating in the wind like her magic lovely endless thin black silky veil of hair !... :crush: Yes, thin hais IS beautiful !...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAjmEt9d8b0

What I want to say is that when I see your pictures in this post, the color, the shine, the health of your fine hair, I am convinced that you can grow it as long and as sensual as the lady in my video, and enjoy it with the same happiness ! :) :) :)

Reminds me not to skip braid waving my hair next time I wash. :) That braid is so neatly done, and I don't know what you are taking about when you say it tapers so much! The tapering looks quite gradual, a sign that you have a lot of growth ahead of you. :)

LongHairLesbian, thank you!
It's all in the forks and the flipping... It probably helps that I've been a member here for a while now (ten years or so I think) and I've cut my hair off twice since finding the board; my hands still remember what to do, even if my hair isn't quite long enough yet! :p

Sterlyn, you have such gorgeous hair and I LOVE the colour - I'm hoping mine will look like yours some day!
(wish I could get the waves too, but that won't happen alas).

StellaKatherine, your braid looks terrific - and no taper at all that I can see!
Most of my hair pretty much stops growing at APL, so I get a big taper when it gets longer than that.

Edit: not quite ten years I see now - still, over nine years!
Here's hoping to the next nine, without cutting this time... ;)

Another edit: I mentioned the French Twist instructions I linked to in my hair journal, but it turns out that entry was much further down than I thought it was - and of course there is no reason I can't post the link directly here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaV2ihKkBls).

Deep conditioned and washed it today. I'm wavier than this, I comb it out a few times just because it speeds up drying. It looks like I have a lot of hair when it's clean like this, but it's it's dirty or in a braid it's a pencil.

Here is my fine hair, bunned and loose. I am 2" circumference, and I'm definitely a contender for this thread.
Rags, I love your hair, I have been a fan ever since I joined LHC.

Such gorgeous hair, Agnes Hannah and Nadine! I absolutely adore the colour variation and the intricate looking updos your hair, Agnes Hannah. And Nadine, that shiny silkiness is to die for! Your hair looks like a delicate, silky curtain. :)

Seems like our thinner haired LHCers are putting the rest of us to shame with their shine, silkiness, and softness. ;) My hair has NEVER looked as glossy and delicate as the hair in the pictures we are getting in this thread.

I noticed your changed your siggy pic, rags, to show one of your gorgeous updos. Looks wonderful!

Wow, such a shiny, adorable braid! Your braid is thin, but so what? That doesn't make it less beautiful or impressive. And soon it will be much longer, due to the great care you are taking with your hair. :)

I recently got my brother to take a length shot, but he took it front of a window, so you can see his reflection in it. LOL!

Your little braid is very cute !! It makes me feel like you are "the little one to spoil" !
In fact, you lose quite a lot of thickness in the bang, but I think it's a (cute too !) personal choice... which emphasizes my "little one to spoil" feeling, even more^^

I think I made a discovery. So I've been a good little longhair, braiding my hair at night to lessen damage and keep it from tangling. After undoing the braid in the morning and trying to gently brush it and/or comb it, tangles were prolific.

Well, for the past week, I haven't been braiding. I've been sleeping with my hair completely loose. Verdict - ALMOST NO TANGLES. I am guessing it has to be something related to my 1a/b i/ii hair.

Has anyone else found this to be true for them?

I had no tangles in braids as well, but I can go wild and free and still be tangle-free, so I see no need to constrain my hair at night. :)

Thanks, but I DEFINTELY have taper. I just make hubby brush my hair before pics. lol. The lower half-ish of my hair gets thinner all the way down, if you get my ends together, it's like....a pinch of hair. lol. But hey, been growing it out for 6 years, so it's gonna happen I guess.

I'm really happy to see this thread and have loved scrolling through it! :D

I don't belong here - but it always saddens me sometimes when LHC members say they wish they had "thicker" hair, as if having thinner hair was something bad. :) After all, the number of follicles on our head and the thickness of our strands isn't something we choose or can change significantly - whereas other aspects of our hair such as its condition, length and to an extent colour is under our control - and as this thread proves, regardless of hair type, anyone can have gorgeous locks through TLC. :D

And I am a huge advocate about everyone posting pictures here too! I have noticed as well people on this forum being shy about showing their manes because they worry it isn't as long / thick / insert other hair descriptor - when it would be lovely to see everyone's hair. :D

Anyway, just my quick message and I'll step back into the background. :) And although I love every single photo on here - Nadine <3, that is one shiny super cute braid!! :D Love it <3

Has anyone else found this to be true for them?

Yes, absolutely! My hair must be quite similar to yours, 1a/b and medium thickness. My hair doesn't really tangle unless it's been whipped around by the wind... or braided. The tangles aren't ever too bad - my hair is fine and slippy - but any tangle annoys me simply because I so rarely get them. My hair is quite short at the moment so it's fine to leave down at night.

Nadine, that's an adorable braid (and thicker than mine! :p )

AspenSong your hair is gorgeous and it doesn't look like it tapers much at all! Very beautiful!

Viola, I'm a i, but tangles are the bane of my existence, alas. Braiding keeps my hair from tangling; it's much much worse without. Now, however I wear a sleep cap most nights as I feel like the braiding itself may have been the cause of some of the breakage I was having.

I have really fine hair. I've always been self conscious of it, and tried lots of things over the years to make it seem fuller. Of course it would result in damage most of the time.
It wasn't until I grew it all out to it's natural state, quit messing with it, found the wonderful world of LHC, and google searched images of long fine hair, that I came to realize what I had all along is what I am actually attracted to, and proud of having.
Long fine hair is very pretty to me. Lots of beautiful pictures in this thread. Congrats to all of you. Feel proud!

I look forward to my trims too. I'm still able to gain length by having just 1/4" cut each month. Just straight across the bottom, no U shape or anything. I feel like if I skip a month, my hair starts looking uneven. I've been having it cut this way for years now. It's the best way for me to get as much thickness as possible for my fine hair.

StellaKatherine, your comment made me smile. I don't think my hair, or me for that matter, have ever been called sexy before.

DreadfulWoman, I use u-shaped hair pins like this one (http://blog.frisorska.se/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/haarnaal.jpg). I think the key to making them work is to pin while you bun. Bobby pins doesn't work at all for me, the best things that happens when I use them is that they fall out, the worst that they eat my hair.

Absolutely lovely hair Kherome! I'm really impressed by your ends, colour and shine.

I use u-shaped hair pins like this one (http://blog.frisorska.se/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/haarnaal.jpg). I think the key to making them work is to pin while you bun. Bobby pins doesn't work at all for me, the best things that happens when I use them is that they fall out, the worst that they eat my hair.

I will have to play around with the U-shaped pins more then. I usually use them when I'm doing a regular super-compressed, just-get-it-all-in-there type of bun, but always end up reaching for the bobby pins whenever I'm attempting anything fancier. They work for me in that they stay in and hold my hairdo up, but they always end up eating at my hair too.

I belong here...I don't know my ponytail circumference but I'm definitely a i or on the low end of ii. It's gotten a bit thicker since I've been growing out my virgin hair. My hair is also straight as a board without volume & can't hold a curl, so I feel like it looks extra thin. I used to hate it but I will admit it is super easy to take care of (no frizz days, and no tangles!) :P & I do think long straight hair is beautiful. I wish I had more volume at the roots, but other than that I've made peace with having thin, fine hair.

Sorry I don't have a shot from the back, or a length shot (not that it's that long yet :P)

Cross posted with the braid picture thread, but I figured we're just getting started here so we're in need of some pictures!

I have yet to get a definitive ponytail measurement, so I'm just guessing on the i/ii. When my hair isn't styled, it looks ii, when it is, it looks i/ii.

Now my braid wants to look like your braid!

blue_eyes, First and foremostly, you've got very nice shiny & healthy hair! I noticed that you have layers in the front of your hair, maybe that detracts from your hair's thickness more than you think? :hmm: I don't think you're an i, judging from this picture and the other ones in your album. ^_^
(Your genuine hair colour is lovely, by the way, I just saw it more clearly in ze album!!)

Thank you Wosie! :) I hope you're right about the layers, I'm growing them out. I also had a lot of really severe breakage (I mean literally chunks of hair broke off) after a bad bleaching attempt, and this really thinned out the ends of my hair. It's been getting better as I've been micro-trimming off the damage. I hope once my natural hair is longer it will be noticeably thicker.

You are awesome Rags! I should have more of that attitude in everything, not just hair.

I love the photos on this thread. I only wish people sounded more positive about thin hair. I have fine, thin-ish hair, but don't quite qualify for this thread. My circumference is somewhere around 3'', give or take. I try not to obsessively measure length or thickness.

More gorgeous photos ladies (and gents? any on here?)!!

It's quite a contrast posting directly after MidnightMoon's long and glorious hair, but here goes...

The last time I measured I was 1.75", so a i it is. Reading this thread has given me great encouragement having seen all this gorgeous shiny healthy hair. Everyone's hair looks so well cared for and cherished and it's wonderful to see the longer lengths.

Fortunately I can't braid so I avoid having comment on my plait:wink:, but I would dearly like to have a little more hair around my hairline to avoid the scalped look. I guess that's not about to happen so I'll just have to deal with it.

Here is a photo taken earlier this month
http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah71/beezleda/Photoon10-4-14at318PM3_zps0960976b.jpg (http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/beezleda/media/Photoon10-4-14at318PM3_zps0960976b.jpg.html)

And one from last month with my small bun held up with the wonderfully effective Maple Burl. You'll have to imagine that the sandals that appear to be attached to either hairstick aren't there because I just can't make them go away!

I wanted to post a braid thickness shot just for you guys! :blossom:
I'm slowly starting to realize that my hair is a lot finer and thinner than I once thought, although I'm sure some of that is due to the improved quality of my strands which allows them to compress a lot more. Normally I would redo my hair before going out in public or posting a picture but I'm too lazy and the point of the picture is my hair thick/thinness, not my braiding skills (and I swear my hair usually doesn't look so jacked up when I Dutch braid it lol).

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o11/awesomexalisha/My%20Marvelous%20Mane/JackedBraid_zps918e69d9.jpeg

PS: I could have braided this tighter and the photo was taken from above by my BF so the angle may make my hair look much thicker than normal so here's a comparison of double Dutch braids from Spring of this year.

One of your double dutch braids is pretty much the thickness of my single braid...
And your single braid looks about twice the size of mine, too.

Have you ever measured your circumference?
I suspect you are firmly in the middle of ii, possibly even at the higher end.

Yay for this thread! I am looking forward to seeing pictures of your wonderful manes! :D

ETA: I have always admired the look of a single braid for thin hair... and I secretly wish that my braid was thinner!

Me too but with ponytail. When I was a kid there was a girl sitting next to me in the class and she has this nice slick high thin ponytail which stay up all day long. Mine always fall apart...

 I can see no one wants to be the first one to post here. So I will, since I am shameless :P

I am not i, I am on the low end of ii, so I think I count. I hope I won't put off any i people from posting. My circumference is *mumble mumble* inches. Here are two pictures. One on light clothing and one on dark.

Maria_asa -- had to add that your hair looked amazing in your wedding bun. Did you do that yourself? My braiding/bunning dexterity is pretty low at the moment. Once I get more length, I'd love to be able to do that bun!

Thank you! Yes, I did my wedding hair myself. It wasn't my original plan but after being to several hair dressers who all refused to do my hair on the basis that it was too thin and too long and that I didn't allow them to back comb as they wanted I gave up and did it myself instead. I used this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDOkSagmMB0) as a base and modified the technique to work with my hair.

Thanks Anabell :flower: Those are my Dad's grape vines in the background of the first picture, he is very proud of them. I am sure he would be happy to hear your liked them :) I agree, I like the texture in the first picture better too. I accidentally sort of plopped my hair by having wrapped up too long in that one. Hi Nadine ! :)

Your little braid is very cute !! It makes me feel like you are "the little one to spoil" !
In fact, you lose quite a lot of thickness in the bang, but I think it's a (cute too !) personal choice... which emphasizes my "little one to spoil" feeling, even more^^

AspenSong : you are the living proof that thin hair can grow long, healthy and absolutely gorgeous !! :) :)

Nadine, You've got such a beautiful hair colour. :flower:

AspenSong, What an inspiration you are, to everybody growing their hair! My mother's ponytail circumference is also 2" (and her hair is fine) but her hair starts tapering quickly around APL.

Reading through all these compliments had me crying! I really love these forums and what they do for someones confidence, because my hair was always something I've been so self conscious about because every girl in my glasses and whatnot always had long thick hair and everyone always commented on how thin mine was. I always just assumed that it was a bad thing, but now I can see how pretty fine thin hair can truly be.

Oh Nadine, soooo shiny and nice looking !!... :D The night prepared to you a nice surprise to cheer you up ! :) :) :)

You know, I was quickly looking down the thread to check the new messages and I stopped on yours, thinking "wow, whose hair is this silky mane ??" Lol. I had to read twice to realize it was yours, not a reply-post to some wavy girl, ha ha ha. Your hair looks so soft and full of shiny nuances of brown ! I had never seen it like this, and frankly it is really nice. It also looks healthy all the way. I am sure you can grow it without problem to a jaw-dropping length !

Don't pay so much attention on the people who point out your hair as too thin. (What's their point in saying so ? Will it make your hair change its nature ?? Grrrrr :patrol:) : if they feel it so important to mention, it's maybe that some of them have found it an efficient way to hurt you. The best revenge is to let your hair grow healthy and act as if you didn't care what they think. When you don't care about what somebody thinks, you don't give this person a way to hurt you. People hate to have the feeling that what they say doesn't matter to you. And really, when I look at your hair, I don't see anything so much different from most of the girls I see around here. Really thick, long and amazing hair is not so common. Most people have hair is the "low normal range", I would say. And you can see in this very thread that they can make it really beautiful !

I've annoyed a rude person who said that my hair was soooo thin, by putting on a bright smile and saying "Yes it is thin. Aren't I lucky?" She wasn't sure what to say, so said nothing.
Absolutely brilliant!!!

Well I have not posted any photos yet, so I guess here's a good place for my first :)

This is at my grandparent's house this past summer. The bathroom at my house has no windows, so theirs is better for selfies :p

I have really thin hair. The diameter is about the size of a quarter at best, plus I have an M shaped hairline with very little hair around and above my temples. Also, it is actually just a little bit shorter now than in this photo, because I trimmed all the thinned ends.

I love this thread. All of your hair looks wonderful! I used to have i hair, now definitely ii. But I was always told that I should keep it shoulder-length because it was so thin. Untill I decided to ignore those comments ;). This thread proves that thin hair can look just as beautiful as thick hair as long as its healthy :).

Schweedie,your hair is absolutely gorgeous!

Spin der, you have as much hair on one side it looks like, as I do total. I don't think its as thin as you think. Regardless, it's so beautiful and shiny!

Spidermom, I don't know about everyone else, but I rarely post any other than updo pics. I have gotten some unkind comments in the past (once when someone said she really liked my hair, anther person basically called her a liar. That was fun....... )

Clever response!!

Hair is hair, thick or thin! Who cares what the number of the circumference is as long as it's healthy? It's silly how people think that thick hair is necessarily "better" hair.

Oh what beautiful hair on this thread. So much shine and healthy-looking tresses. I am away right now, but I do plan on posting another photo when I get back home. I wanted to add that I started growing my hair from a short bob last year, at age 67. I kept wondering if it would actually get much growth at my age and on so many meds. It is now armpit length and my harshest critic has now said she likes it. Yay for determination and protective styling! The support we receive here is also a major factor.

I'm going to have to join this thread too. Haven't measured in a bit so I'm not sure where everything stands. But I have struggled with fine thin hair and I do admit I am often very jealous. My hair won't hold a curl (aside from the one little bit by my right temple which waves slightly when I don't want it to!) putting it up and it falls down. Braid it and it's ok but still wants to come out. A messy bun in a scrunchy is my go to style I hate to say. But hey it's what works. But alas it's also the color I hate. I LOVED my hair color growing up, a great blonde. Now naturally it's like a gray dishwater blonde. So I do dye it. With my thin fine hair I also can't find a shampoo that works. And trust me, over the years I've tried EVERYTHING out there. The only thing that works for me is to dye it and then use shampoo for color treated hair. I do change up the colors as I feel which probably isn't helping the health of my hair, but it's fun to do when you can't do much else with it. I went to Sallys to get dye and they say with shoulder length hair get two bottles, if it's longer get three. yeah I can use one and have TONS of leftovers. My avatar is from about a year ago you can kind of see how thin it is. I'm assuming it's just around 2" at it's thickest. I love pigtail braids, but they just look so thin. Yes it is hard to deal with hair envy, but I've been fairly happy with the growth when I see others with thick hair that real short and they look envious of my length, so I guess it goes both ways. I once had a hair dresser, the last time I ever went to one, tell me my hair will never grow long! I said I want to get to TBL and to just trim a tiny bit off. She said no way will I ever get there. yeah well a few months later if I was a worse person I wanted so badly to strut back in there with my TBL hair! It was back to TLB this summer, but I did a few larger trims and it's a few inches shy of that now. But it'll be back there again soon!

All pictures on here are so beautiful and inspiring! I have i/ii hair but it's still about the length of my avatar picture (taken in 2008). I'm terrible at selfies especially of the back of my head.
Maria I have long admired your hair and your wedding picture is beautiful and you did a fabulous job of styling your hair. I can't believe that hairdresser said that.
I'm lucky I tell my hairdresser I don't want to tease my hair as then I can't get the tangles out and she understands because I do have such tangle prone hair, so she has done nice updos on me without teasing.

I had my hair down past lower BSL almost to waist but cut it in an inverted bob (shoulder length) one year ago. I've now got it back down to APL.
Those who have talked about thin twin pigtails or braids I hear Ya! I rarely wear my hair in braids although I do single pony's because I can arrange/fake those to look thicker than my hair actually is.

I'm still trying to figure out how to post pictures but I'm looking forward to joining in! I'm still very far from my goal but I've been mictotrimming along the way from long pixie and it has been worth it. It took me a while to accept that I will NEVER have the thick, wavy hair of my dreams (and yes, I actually have it in my dreams sometimes...) and instead to appreciate the soft, shiny hair that comes with being fine and thin (hair-wise, of course.) It is satisfying to grow "my personal best" hair and not compare it to others with different genetics. I love looking at the pictures you have posted--so lovely and inspiring!

Thank you ladies! It's all an illusion really though. The back is the thickest part of my hair, and had been cut shorter (angled cut) plus I'm super thin on top. 1.5-1.6" ponytail, so very very much an i. Blowdrying helps though! :) That was a really really good hair day.

This picture is unflattering, but I have come to love my hair. It is mostly wet in this pic. I am a ii, I used to be a nice iii, alas, post partum shed and a dumb undercut slayed my thickness. When it dries it is incredibly poufy

My hair is low ii but most of the thinness at the ends is because they were dyed goodness knows how many times and heat styled once a week. I think the rest is pretty good proof of how decent thinner hair can look when left mostly alone.

I am laughing SO HARD over the villain from a Chinese kung fu movie bit that I'm probably going to wake up the entire house. SO TRUE!!!! Sigh. :hollie:

I'll make sure to put up a photo of me with such a braid tomorrow now. Can't help it!

I'm also in the process of losing a fair chunk of weight because I'm built with broad shoulders and narrow hips (for a girl) so I figured health issues aside, hair will look fuller once I'm thinner too. I hate that problem... ugh!

Anyhow, here's my hair. Taken from when I goofed around and put a Christmas decoration on my head. I was trying to invoke my inner Thranduil. /geek

Ooo, I like this thread! Here's a picture from the other day when my hair was feeling more cooperative than usual. I have a hard time doing length shots due to floatiness and wandering hair strands, but one of these days I'll manage one with the hair unrestrained. I'll get another picture with my skinny braid sometime. My ponytail is about 2" circumference, but due to the fineness and compactibility I feel very firmly in the i camp rather than i/ii.

Sorry this pic's pretty grainy, still figuing out how to do decent mirror shots.

I french braided my hair for the first in a long time today. I started off doing very thin sections to make an intricate braid but I got so much scalp cleavage and I couldn't handle it so I took it all apart and did very big sections. Still happy with the way it turned out. I liked tying it off in a ponytail rather than braiding to the end because it shows off my taper less. Oh, thin hair problems.

Anyway, this is a lovely thread, it's a shame so many of the pics are lost due to photobucket changing their terms or whatever they did.

Some pages back, RapunzelKat posted a pic of her beautiful classic 1a, F, i/ii hair - super motivating! Now I've definitely want classic length as well, and I have at least some idea of how my hair will look at that length :D
