Hi-lighting is my guilty hair pleasure. I'm a good curly girl in all other aspects but love me my highlights. They lift my complexion and I think it visually defines my curls.

I get them put in just twice a year and now I'm really planning to grow to longer lengths I'm looking for advice to minimize the damage.

Should I be doing some pre colouring care, like a protein rich deep conditioner? Or is that better after? I have read about coconut oil on the day but my hair hates it, but perhaps I should use it on this one occasion to protect it.

Any advice from others who colour would be much appreciated.

Also, is it high-lights, hi-lights or highlights??? I seem to never get it right :p

I don't colour myself, but I've heard that especially when lightening hair, many members have found success with applying coconut oil beforehand to keep the bleach, peroxide or whatever from being too drying.
