I'll put up a picture first so you can see a visual of what I'm about to explain.

Okay.
As you can see, my hair forms 4-5 loose ringlet/dreadlock-type things when I get out of the shower. It has always done this to some degree, although I haven't really thought about it until recently. At the top, they are pretty separate, and then gradually taper down to a point.

They dry into pseudo-curls that look like this:

http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m532/Pintar5/Mobile%20Uploads/6a535b85-f5e3-423c-aac0-3a4a289c3378_zps7235cfdd.jpg (http://s1130.photobucket.com/user/Pintar5/media/Mobile%20Uploads/6a535b85-f5e3-423c-aac0-3a4a289c3378_zps7235cfdd.jpg.html)

The thing is, there are only a couple of them and they don't stick around long. They get so tangly when they dry that I have to comb them out, which gives me quite a bit of frizz. If I don't they look weird like this:

(kind of an old pic)

So my question is: Is this a well-known property of hair that has any type of curl to it? Is the effect exaggerated with legitimately curly hair (would love to see a pic, if so)? I grew up with no siblings and a short-haired mother so I don't really know.
I appologize if this is a dumb question, but I'm still learning. :)

My hair does that too! Lol when it is drying it dries into little whirlwind curls like that. Then if I want I can separate it into multiple curls/waves.

It's normal for wavy hair (and you *are* wavy, about 2b, I think) to do that. Perfectly normal. :D
