Protein for hair

Sorry if this is already posted. Newbie question. I have read that protein is good some people's hair, but not for others. I was wondering how to know if conditioner etc. has protein in it. Thanks

Usually it says hydrolyzed (blank) protein. Like silk protein or keratin etc.
