Anybody else have issues with people walking in on you when you're trying to figure out new do's?

I've been doing a little modeling here and there and a friend asked me to pose for her in pin up style for her to practice... so I'm like' no big, I've done this before.' BACK when my hair was at least two feet shorter. I didn't anticipate how hard this was going to be with this length, but I figured I can practice.

SO, I waited until Manthing went to bed. Waited half an hour, then started rolling, pinning and trying to figure out stuff when he comes out of the room. Immediately I fling everything off my face and sweetly turn to him, asking him if he needed help. He gave me instructions for something. I wait... get started again. He came back out. Again, I panicked and hid my comb beneath the desk and sat frazzled looking.

Again I wait. He does it once more. I felt like flinging the can of dry shampoo at his head to make him stop interrupting me. I don't want him looking until I figured it out! ITS EXHASPERATING!

-le sigh-

You'd think I was a teenage boy watching porn by the way I react but... sheesh!

"You'd think I was a teenage boy watching porn by the way I react but... sheesh!"
Ha! Exactly what I was thinking of...

I refuse to participate in all forms of social media save for what is necessary for school aaaannnnnd… you guessed it, lhc! If my grand children get curious how I spent my time on the web, I want them to be able to see the magnificence that was my lovely thigh length hair… if I ever get there that is!

This is hilarious, and so true.
OH always comes in, and I freeze like a rabbit trying to get hit by a car, hair half-braided or bits half-pinned and he kind of looks at me funny and is like "What are you doing?"

Let me know how you manage to do pin-up hair with longer hair. I really struggle now that mine is APL so have no idea how to manage at longer lengths!

Once I figure it out, I shall share. Getting the curls in is the easy part. Being able to comb out a set for lovely waves even easier. GETTING THOSE STUPID ROLLS?! The bane of my existence!

Ha ha ha, so funny !...

But what's the problem with playing with your hair ? Are you doing anything wrong ?? Lol. It's not like if you were epilating yourself or something embarrassing. Honestly, I would not care what he may think. I would just say that I'm trying new hairstyles and getting some practise. Either he would feel bored and quickly move away, either he will comme and... enjoy with me ! ;)

Indeed, my hair is very much involved in my flirting with him and in his getting warmed up, hi hi hi ! So why trying to hide ?

I agree for the most part, but I still can relate that sometimes it's weird to be interrupted. But my hubby is used to walking in on me with some strange makeup thing going on, or my hair in some funny parts, buns and braids. Sometimes it's still embarrassing, but hey, the worst that could happen is that he's going to laugh at you, right?

I still remember his expression when I was trying to get my TB+ hair into foam rollers... we both ended up laughing.

Sometimes DH will give me a funny look if I'm trying to braid my hair upside down, like for a crown braid, but usually he doesn't bother me. Then again, it's not like I really ever do anything complicated with my hair these days anyways, so there's not really a lot for him to "walk in on."

I haven't tried foam rollers since I was 14 and had APL hair . . . those would be a nightmare now that I'm at waist, with no mom to help!

I can relate too :o
I don't like to be interrupted when I'm playing with my hair, but I don't mind if I master the hairstyle I'm doing. Sometimes I like to pretend that my hair is longer than it is (knee length paranda!), and I would be so embarrased if someone would open the door at that moment!

It's hard to explain. I've gotten the reputation of being done hair goddess and I don't like to be caught like a kitten in yarn. It's weird. Especially since I don't practice a style, I get silly. Like, sing into brushes, pretend I have a beard and speak in funny voices.

For me its DD who bothers me while I'm trying new 'dos. She's very 2, and I swear she has it figured out when my hands are in the middle of a nearly perfect braid, and she walks in and gets into my lipstick. You can literally see the point in my 'do where I start to get rushed and it gets messy. DH is very busy lately, so he doesn't see any new styles =(.

When he has caught me, he has a hard time understanding what the finished product will look like, so I just use him as a mirror and ask him to describe if he sees hairs out of place or bumps or anything off center, and he's really good at that, and thankfully he won't touch it. Most of the time he's home, he's doing homework or gaming, so again, just DD who won't let me play in peace. Luckily, as long as PBS kids is on my phone, I can play with her hair.:eyebrows:

Everybody is different. I don't mind if my husband comes in and I'm trying out a hairstyle, he often doesn't notice, at worst, he rolls his eyes and leaves. He does have a tendency to say my hair looks great--when its full of conditioner or wet because I'm washing it--wierd.
when other people come in and I'm playing with my hair, they often want to touch it or 'help' me (i.e try things out on me) and that can be a nuisance...It's hard for me to say no and I've ended up with situations like three of my cousins making braids in my hair that I didn't really want made--well, two of them were making the braids, the female ones, and the male one was just checking their work or something--Nice bonding time I guess, until it was the next day and I had to take all the darn braids out of my hair, by myself.
Not the only time, either...No real harm done, but I do go hide and do my hair sometimes so that I get NO offers of help.

I do wish manthing would offer help, especially when my hands are acting up. Instead he giggles, teases or shyes away. I'm peculiar, I suppose. It's funny when he barges in like he did yesterday.

Lol. Yes, indeed, "he" often shows up at the most critical moment : when you are just acting acrobatic to fix an complicated braid up there, or when you are trying this "moustache-kind-of-look" with your kohl, ha ha ha

I think the best is to laugh. Humor can't harm, can it ? :D

Ha ha ha HILARIOUS !!! :D Thank you Anqe for this nice piece of fun ! So I'm not alone speaking funny voices when playing with my hair and pretending I am Sitting Bull, Robin Hood or Nefertiti ??? :D :D :D

So lovely anecdote, Chen !... I guess it can be bothering on the moment. But when you come to think of of it later, it is soooo sweet ! :)

thank you, Mimha. I guess this is true, in retrospect. And I don't see my cousins much.
I think its cute that AngelicDemise talks in voices, etc when combing her hair, by the way and I bet her husband does, too.

I love a bit of privacy when trying out new dos, and I hide in the bathroom to do so, or wait till my manthings are not around. Little manthings are very good, and sometimes too truthful, big manthing just says "That looks nice". He does like hairsticks though.

For me it's when I'm trying to mix up a concoction for my hair and my DH asks me what I'm doing. He already knows the answer but for some reason feels like he always need to ask and then joke about it. He means well I suppose.

I started out reading the first post thinking "oh, that's silly, why would she mi-" and then abruptly realizing that I do the same, guilty teen-hiding-p0rn move when DBF sees me SMPing. Whoops. *blush*

Maybe he likes the super-shine of wet hair? Maybe he is picturing you in the quintessential pretty-girl-climbing-out-of-pool shot?

My SO drops by all the time when I'm working on a new do... which is five days a week. When I come out to frustratedly pace with my hair half up and half down.. and failing at the do I'm trying, he offers to help by holding strands or anything, it's adorable!

The issue I have is the cat who wants to be IN my hair when I'm working with it, she jumps up on the back of the toilet and starts trying to get onto the counter to play with the moving strands, or to attack my hairpins, she loves the boar bristle brush and will knock it to the floor to try to rub against it before I grab it. The other cat waits patiently outside the bathroom as though she knows that I'm at my limit with the young cat.

I enjoy playing with my hair on my own too. DH likes to ask questions. I need to think about things and can't answer questions at the same time.
