Okay, a question for every other curly head here who might be helpful:
When i get out of the shower and air dry my hair, they turn into my natural 3b curls but if i dry them in a bun or, worstun, every time i put them in my so beloved bun even when completely dry....they turn fissy and get to seem like seaweeds attached to my head.
What's wrong with them? what can i do?

T.T Darn. and how can you keep your hair away from your face when working otherwise?
And...well, ok, i suppose i can cope with the gymnastic-required bun by making training days my washing days...

Since I started using coconut oil, after I wear a bun or even braids, my hair is barely frizzy. I think the tension, from the buns or braids, pulls out the curl. I have read and have seen on YouTube, girls wearing their curls to bed and having them in the morning. They used some sort of product or hair technique that worked for them. Maybe they will chime in or you could look up videos?
Good luck :)

Nothing you can do. Let your hair dry completely before putting it into a bun, better yet wait until the day after, that might save your curls some.

If I make a bun with my hair still curly, I get LOTS of tangles. After washing, when it's dry, I brush out the curls (!) and make a braided bun. Next day, it is possible to do a non-braided bun. But curls AND an updo, that is not possible for me. Curls are not easy to take care of, are they?

Putting it in a bun is defenetly going to smash and flatten the curls. You can try to refresh them with some water.?

I think you have to choose between nice curls or updos. The tension does pull the curl out. I have nice curls on washday because I wear it down to airdry and I know the rest of the week I will have big waves or updos. It just..is.

I only wash my hair once a week on mondays, and i don't wear it down almost ever, only wash day.. So i bun it the next day.. And the next day... By the third day.. The frizzy smashed curls have calmed down and its just slightly fuzzy waves... Not perfect. But allows for easy bunnings...
But its true... Its either curls or buns.. You cant have both.

Yep, I agree with everyone else. If you bun every day, your curls will get smashed. However, you may be able to refresh them by spraying them with water (like butter52 said), or with a water/conditioner/aloe gel mix. That usually reactivates the curls for me. :) Try searching youtube for "second day curls" or "second day curly hair" videos.

Hmm these problems you are all describing seem odd to me. I have very curly hair and keep it bunned for looser more uniform curls. I never have frizz or anything but pretty smooth curls. I have thick coarse hair and use a ton of conditioner as a leave in, plus a ton of coconut oil prolly about a quarter of a teaspoon full. Maybe that's the difference?
Oh and I damp bun after washing or my curls look like a huge halo, like of like Merida from the movie brave. I only wet my hair maybe 2x a week. My hair is wild in its natural state and I have to cage it.

Like everyone else said, you have to choose one or the other. I rarely wear my hair out curly so I don't mind the frizz that results. Although when I take down the bun, the hair in my looser curl section still has a bit of curl, the tighter section is just frizz. Reactivating the curls is your best bet in helping you be able to wear curly hair after bunning

Many thanks to all of you, girls ^^ you're all been so helpful and kind!
i'll deal with it and i'll try to refreshen my curls with a water conditioner mix on the second day and leave the bun or the updos to the washing days <3

I just realized that most of you don't brush. I do. At the end of washday I carefully detangle and brush into waves with an oiled BBB. Yes, I spray the brush with oil. So maybe that would help.

I think a lot depends on your hair (type). I have fine thin hair (obviously wavy/curly) and any updo will make them change their ways. The good part is if I do the right thing I can straighten them without any brush or heat. The bad part is - when they are for example freshly washed and beautiful and soft I must not lay down even for 1/4-1/2 hour because the side where my head is on the pillow will be straight and the other side super curly and I will look super weird. If you have coarse and thick hair this probably won't happen even if they are curly. So you have to have a plan of "dos" for the week and like others have said - a conditioning mix to freshen up the curls when needed.

I sometimes brush (but have to find a more suitable BBB). Lately I comb every day with a horn comb and I like it. I would like to brush a few days a week to see if there are any benefits.
May I ask which oil you use?
I might try that.

http://www.sherlenenaturals.com/images/manufacturers/12239242_201307091131.jpg I get it at Target; they seem to have the best price when it's on sale. It has argan oil in it.
