Hi, I had found that the clarifying shampoo i had been using had carcinogens. I want to switch but there are so many things available on the market. Don't know what to look for and where to start. I don't treat or do anything to damage my hair and oil it regularly. So all I need from a shampoo is that it cleans my hair and has the least chemicals as possible, which is why my focus is not marketing claims but the ingredients. I am thinking Lush shampoo bars may be a good place to start. What do you think. If you have tried a shampoo that has least number of nasties, I would love to hear about them.

Of the ones below I think number 1 is good because it has only 2 unnatural things. I don't know anything about shampoo ingredients.
Thank you :)

Soap nuts may be the way to go for you, also you may like going water only or sebum only.

But fyi, everything is a chemical. Water is a chemical, so is vinegar, baking soda and wine. Chemicals are not man made carcinogens, although some of them are! But not all, and some natural things are very harmful (arsenic, Belladonna, lead when absorbed into the body) and some man made things extremely safe. Hope this helps you find what you're looking for!

If your shampoo truly had carcinogens, it would be off the market. There's no need to panic so drastically. If you don't want sulfates in your shampoo, then look for sulfate-free alternatives. :flower:

Currently I am using Green People Neutral. I have previously used Jasons and Beauty without Cruelty. There's a lot of shampoos available, I just did a search.

I am a cancer survivor and do not use Lush because of the SLS which is stated to contribute to cancer. The first ingredient in all thier bars. Check Etsy for shampoo bars, there are several that are all natural.

I'm also a cancer survivor and feel pretty good about using this shampoo:

I would suggest soap nuts! I washed out coconut oil with a cleanser I make from them and my hair is so soft and clean ^^ My cleanser consists of Fenugreek, amla, henna, and soapnuts. I really love Ayurvedic herbs and would highly suggest them.

I use Regenepure Shampoo (http://www.biotinconditioner.com/product/regenepure-complete-2) as well as their Biotin Conditioner (http://www.biotinconditioner.com/product/regenepure-intense-volumizing-biotin-conditioner) All of their products are sulfate-free and paraben-free and if you are looking to regrow your hair they are great.

This. And definitely stay away from Lush, they're the ones using misleading marketing claims that their products are "natural", when they are anything but!
All-natural shampoo bars would be a good option.

This is very interesting to me, I'm feeling more and more drawn to natural ingredients and methods of hair care. It seems that over the past couple of years, the more natural my hair care, the better my hair is. It's kind of spread- the more natural foods I eat, the better I feel! My concerns about using Ayervedic herbal washes are 1) how much work does it involve? My plate is pretty full, and I can't spend a lot of time (or money) concocting formulas in my kitchen, and 2) my hair really requires a lot of "slip" or I have instant dreadlocks! Shampoo bars were a disaster, even with a vinegar rinse. Do you know of any threads here where I can find info, or other websites to check out? Thanks.

Uh huh.Nope. That is like saying alcohol and cigarettes and I don't know, hair dye or toilet bleach would be off market if they were carcinogenic.

The thing is (internet knowledge so feel free to correct me if you actually work in the industry),the preservatives and such, are dilluted in a product enough to be 'safe'.So if you used one product, you probably wouldn't be at risk, but you aren't using one product becuase you also have your skin cream, your hair conditioner etc. which also contain 'safe' amounts...

ETA: not saying you should panic over ' anything you can't pronounce',which is :bull:,just choose your products rationally and opt for least toxic whenever possible.

The only soap I can think of that I've tried is Goat Milk Stuff goat milk bar soap. The first time I tried it though...O..m..g...It made my hair so soft I couldn't believe it! But the next time I tried it, it made my hair waxy and I just couldn't comb it. You can try it, but just know that it is 100% natural and that it can cause build up really, really fast. Here's a link to their site: http://goatmilkstuff.com/ My mom and I use their body soap all the time to treat eczema and it works like a charm. (: We plan on buying more from them soon.

If you're looking for something natural, I had really good luck cleansing with egg yolk! I've you don't care to go homemade, I love Kiss My Face shampoos and conditioners. Alas, my scalp need the harsh detergents to be happy, otherwise I would still be using these.

My sincere advice would be to dilute what ever shampoo you want to use.Bettet to go with sulphate free shampoo. A tea cup of water with little shampoo would be best. It also helps in distributing the shampoo evenly on the wet hair. Same should be the case with conditioner
