Hello there!

I'm a stressed PhD student in Japan. Why am I introducing myself with this? Because it's the reason why I joined. My hair is a pain in the rear when I'm stressed and lab life at the other end of the world without the people I love has a flashing "stress" neon sign on top of it. I often google hair care tips or try to find some common sense when I freak out too much (read: am sure I will be bald by next month) and the searches inevitably lead to this forum. After quietly lurking for a while I decided to join. I hope I fit in and find new friends here, as well as a lot of useful hair information. I won't bore you with long explanations so if you want to know more about me, ask away.

Welcome! I spent 6 weeks in Japan. I had a bad shed living overseas in the UK. Different water, different food, and stress might contribute. What are you studying? How long will you stay in Japan, and where will you go from there? Please tell us more about your long hair at this thread:' Return of the "Hair Survey (if you're bored)"' Thread.

Please consider contributing to this thread: What's the hair etiquette like where you live?

We'd love to see you over on the main boards!

I'm a bad noob. Busy for 2 weeks and now the number of new posts is so big I can't even find the threads where I posted, let alone read everything. This community is bigger than I first thought :D

@Quasiquixotic: Getting bald might be a bit of an exaggeration of my brain when it switches to panic mode but I seem to periodically shed like a dog when I'm stressed. I lose a huge amount of hair and then it grows back but this doesn't allow me to grow very long hair even though I've been trying for about 15 years.

@Chiaroscuro: It's actually my fourth year in Japan. I'm studying genomic medicine/ genomic epidemiology or whatever the correct translation is. I guess I'll see when I graduate xD
I will try to find the threads you mentioned. Hair survey sounds interesting :)
