View Full Version : What's the ideal hair type you wish you had.

I know the grass is always greener on the otherside, but if there was a hair fairy :magic: who can grant you one wish that will permanently change only your hair type, what would it be? List some consequences you're willing to live with that wish.
I'll start with mine.
I've always had multi type hairs that range from 1c-2c with baby hairs around the neck line that can form ringlets with hair texture really coarse like horse texture. My wish would be to have 1a hair texture.
wish granted :magic:
The consequences I'm willing to live with from the complaints I've read about from people who have my granted wish are:
*Slippery hair that doesn't hold any hair toys well, even pony elastics will slip out. That's a big sacrifice I'm willing to live with despite the fact that some of you know I love buying hair toys! At least my updos will look more polished and super sleek if I were able to get my hair toys to ever work, and I'd loose my current powers of grippy hairs to hold any hair toys super well, heck I'd even loose my super powers of being able to make a nautilus bun hold itself without a toy. This is also very hard to live with since I like to wear my hair up all the time.
* People with straight hair have had people comment how boring and lank there hair is because it's so uniform that all it does is droop down especially with a straight blunt cut. I could live with that even though I'd loose my current ability to naturally have my hair look different every day because of the structure of having multiple hair types making it it always interesting to see my hair look different everyday. It's easy for me to let this go because I hate perceiving myself as having "unruly" hairs like medusa.
*Flat hair, no volume. Sure I can currently easily get good volume easily but I'm willing to live with the flat look with no volume and having a hard time to get any volume or bounce. Volume to me translates to poofiness of my hairs looking more frizzy. I'm a man so I don't need the bounce or added femininity of having this oomph factor. I would rather live with simple, sleek, boring and "professional" looking hair (whatever that is).
* ends of the hairs are so straight it resembles the end of a broom. I could live with this as I find that have some of the ends that are more wavy gets tangled easily compared to if it were straight. I'd at least have an easier time using my bbb because I follow the George Michael routine.

I always wished I would have 3b hair. Just a bit more ringlet-y. I don't think it would be that different from what I do have, so no new challenges I think. :) (I'm lucky - I'm very happy with my hair, and have never felt that "grass is greener" thing towards other hair types.)

I would love to have 1c or 2a. I think my 1b is a little... I don't know, nothingish.

YGDW, In my case 1c/2a is undefined portions of somewhat straight and somewhat wavy hair that don't know what to do about themselves...
My favourite hair type is 2b/f/ii or iii. I love the look of fine hair, it looks so shiny and I've never felt silky hair when running my hands through my hair. I wish my hair was wavier, as it is straivy now, and I don't really like that my hair can't make up its mind. x_x I also like how fine haired people have fly aways that barely are seen, it doesn't look bad in my opinion, where in my case it looks like unruly threads. If my fly aways turned fine, I wouldn't mind them anymore, but right now they bother me quite a bit.

I want 1a hair too! :magic:
My hair is mostly fine, but it does look like M sometimes, because of my rebellious flyaways and general texture.
I spent some years of my life trying to make my hair sleek, but it was a lot of work and it produced a lot of damage as well (then I went the opposite, and decided that I wanted a 3b texture... and I got it, oh yes I did... but at what price? :P )
I'm quite happy with my natural type though, I like my waves and volume, but the frizz is a pain in the neck.
I think 1a/F/iii is the ideal hairtype... I'm willing to live without volume, and do braid waves whenever I feel like having wavy hair. Ahh, come to me, hair fairy!

I would love to have 2b/2c hair! Enough wave that my hair actually looks wavy and holds it's wave when down or when I do stuff with it, instead of being straight with only my short hairs and ends curling about to give me a frizz halo ><
That said, if there was a hair fairy, the first things I'd ask would be for M/iii hair and a longer terminal length (I think I'm almost there:( )

I wish i had either 1a coarse hair or same hairtype but medium or fine hair. Both coarse and wavy doesn't work well together.
Or 3a fine hair. Curly hair's also very pretty :)

I'm happy enough with being 2a/f, but I'd love to have thicker hair. I'm 2.5" and would prefer to have an extra inch or so. Nothing dramatic, just a teeny bit more :)

I'm ok with my actual hair type (would prefer hair less fine though!), but since I was indoctrinated in childhood (by my mother) to believe that only curly hair can be beautiful, I have to make a wish for 3a :)
I wouldn't mind somewhat unruly hair, at least I'd have lots of it! :D

I'm fairly happy with my 1a-F-ii hair type, but I'd love to have more thickness. 4” of pony tail circumference at least, although I know it will be a pain to disentangle.
Where is a hair fairy? :eye:

Aww, maybe your hair is just trying to figure out what it wants to be when it grows up (long). :)
I just happen to like a little bit unruly, yet still mostly straight hair. Mine has just ends flipping in every direction.

I vacillate between wanting stick straight 1a hair and longing after voluminous waves. My 1c hair can be brushed to almost-completely-straight and some days it produces lovely waves on its own (or I can coax them out with some damp-bunning.
In between, though, it usually just looks sort of uncombed. So, basically, I don't want a massive change in hair type, I just want my hair to pick a side and stay on clearly on it! :D This seems to be a pretty standard wish for this hairtype.

I would love to have 1a/M/ii hair. I've always wanted straight hair, and stronger, thicker strands that didn't break so easily would be nice. I'd wish for 1/2 an inch more in thickness, with almost zero taper. And no more frizz! :cloud9:
For that hairtype, I'd be happy to deal with slipperiness, difficulty tucking ends into updos and any difficulty holding a wave.
( I don't mind my hair now, but I haven't truly made peace with my wurls. I have a sneaking suspicion that my hair could be much curlier given the right routine (it was 3a when I was a kid))

Juuust slightly thicker and faster growing would be perfect :) And a little curlier. I am happy with my hair now though, love the colour and love that it is wurly, but yes it could do with being less fragile and more voluminous!

I wish my hair was a smidge wavier, like 2b. As it is, it's wavy in the back, straight in the front, "bumpy" but not wavy a day or two after washing, frizzy without the benefit of having extra volume...
OR that it was 1b and consistently straight! And not frizzy and unkempt-looking after washing!
The joys of being not-quite-straight, not-quite-wavy...
As far as the other two signifiers, I'd probably ask for iii hair. And I can't decide if I'd want firmly F or M. M would be hardier, but F sounds like it would be so silky...
I try to enjoy my hair the way it is, though. At least having ii hair means updos sooner, 1c/2a means it's always interesting, and F/M seems like a good in-between. Doesn't mean I don't long for more consistency though!

It's funny....If you asked me this a year ago, I would have said straight hair. Now? I can't imagine ever wanting something different than the hair I have growing out of my head! I have grown to really like my waves. I like how I can leave them be for defined wurls, or comb them out for loose waves that have a ton of body. I never really liked my natural hair texture before now. So thanks to this thread for helping me realize that I want to keep it!
Oddly enough, I would also keep my coarse texture. Yeah, my hair doesn't really ever feel silky soft, but I love how strong it is. My hair has been through hell the last week and it still looks and feels fine.
I suppose if I could make some changes, I'd have my virgin color back - but maybe a shade or two darker. I'd also have my original pre-hormonal shed thickness back. I was solidly above a 4.5" ponytail at one point in my life, and I'd love to gain at least some of that back.

:hmm: Good question! I think I'd pick thick wurly hair (like between 2c/3a).
Let's see... What would I be giving up? My fast drying time (less than two hours for my FTL hair), not needing any products to speak of, sleeker updos.
But I'd love me some big wild hair that could be either wavy or curly depending on its mood. :bluebiggr
It's interesting how many people want my hair type... Obviously you've never had to detangle my hair!

Like Katlette and Zesty, I just want it to choose a side! Either wavy or straight, but not the frizzy undefined mess I end up with each time I air dry loose!
I will say, though, that at least my hair type takes very well to bun or braid waves. At least I get to choose my texture for the day. :)
(I may also have been dealing with a damaged texture for the last 4-5 years... it does look like I'm growing out some 'proper' waves, maybe the fairy visited me!!!)

I would love full-on 3a hair. Not this wishy-washy wavy in-between hair, but full-on curls. I used to get perms because either it was straightening it or curling it, but there was no in-between. It simply didn't exist as far as hairdressers were concerned. And so I got sucked in to that attitude for years and years. Still, I would love the full-on curl, as I think curls are way easier to take care of than wavy hair.

Honestly, I'd be pretty happy with anything but my own. I have 2a blonette hair.
I'd love to have stick straight 1a silky fine hair. 3a curls would make me happy too. I would like pale ash blonde, or even just a few shades lighter.. or dark hair or red.

I would love to have straight hair. Mostly because when I had bangs I had to straighten them all the time or they'd look really weird. It's also easier to curl your hair without heat than to straighten it without heat, I think. And the kind of short haircuts I like look better on straight hair than on wavy hair. And long straight hair is pretty awesome too.
I do like my wavy hair, though. And I guess that's good, since I'm more or less stuck with it :)

I don't know really. I like the texture of my own hair at the moment, but I do wish it was iii. I wouldn't mind having extremely thick hair, like when I had extensions. My hair was bigger than I was then. I could go the the extreme of straight or curly for a change I suppose or stay the same as I am, just so long as it was really thick. I wouldn't mind my hair being as dark as it originally was, or maybe even a bit darker too.
ETA: I forgot to add consequences.
I'd forgo being about to do some buns I can do now because my hair is so thin I can wrap it loads of times.
I'd happily be hotter all of the time, even in summer.
I wouldn't resent the extra time it would take to detangle.
It would be okay if it took much longer to dry, instead of the 20 minutes it takes now.

I want 2c/3a hair, because I really do like my waves, but it would be lovely to have basically princess hair that waved through the length and ended in spirals. I've never had an interest in straight hair, and I think I'd be overwhelmed with full-on curls everywhere. I just want to kick the texture up a notch. I'd keep the color (dark brown), thickness (3 1/2 inch ponytail circumference is perfect for me), and strand texture I have now, though.

I've come to like my hair type and texture, but if I can really get my wish, I would really love 3b hair. Big and beautiful. I don't mind dealing with the consequences of dryness and frizziness using the CG method which sounds like a lot of fun, TBH.

I like my hair except I wish it was not so tangle prone. Just the other day, while having my hair done, the stylist commented that my hair 'really liked itself' and that's the perfect way to describe it. Individual wave patterns in my hair hold onto each other until they tangle and matte. Wearing my hair down for longer than a few hours is near impossible.

It's a toss up between going straighter or curlier. I would love to just casually pick up a brush and run it through my hair without looking like I stuck my finger in an electrical socket; sleeker updos; not need an army of products to tame the mane.
Writing this out, I think I'd ask for curlier hair - LHC has taught me how to care for curly hair, and as frustrating as it can be sometimes, I'd miss my wild volume. Big, loose, bouncy 3a curls would be perfect! (and if the hair fairy was in a generous mood, a little more thickness...) Or this photo (http://i.imgur.com/4iRCHZe.jpg) from MedusaWarrior's album... total dream hair!

I would stay with 2b texture, but I would like more defined waves. If I don't do anything to enhance waves my hair mostly just looks like a really frizzy 2a. Also maybe a bit finer/not so stiff hair and at least 3.75 inches ponytail circumference (without bangs) that doesn't start tapering around chin length.

my preference would be for 1b, ii. except that I like being able to go a long time between washes, and not having to do anything to it.. my 2c iii makes out quite well with 2-6 weeks between washes, which is great for being lazy.. not to mention the wave makes not combing be ok also

To be honest I kinda like my hair as it is. My about 2b/F-M/ii has been good to me. But if I could add something, that would be my hair thickness. It is about 3,2 inch right now and I would LOVE a solid 4 inch :crush: I don't think the change would be so drastic from what it is now as a weight issues. Maybe more of positioning the hair in a right away, but having little more for my updo would be amazing ! ;)

Oooh, this is a hard one!
I'm quite happy with my hair actually, although often I wish I had a bit more wave (so perhaps a 2b/2c) - however, I like that my hair doesn't tangle, but isn't so straight that it lies limp either, and can hold a curl if I try hard.
I would perhaps change my strand thickness. Although my profile says F/M, my hair is really about 95% F I'd say (I must change that). Although it feels amazingly soft, I think with M strands, or even more C strands my hair would not damage as easily at the ends, and I could grow it longer. Also, more thickness!
My hair is quite thick, but I still wouldn't mind having even more hair.
Ironically, if my hair was short, my answers would be quite different, I would be either:
1a/any/i - because my hair would just 'afro' out in a very unshapely and wavey manner, and with a short cut I prefer it to lie flat and sleekly.
OR
3b-4c/any/iii - because I secretly envy those gorgeous curly bobs and afros - and I know that if I had curly hair, I'd definitely be an afro chick. :)

Newbie here so don't get mad if I say something weird :P
I've learned to like the surprises my hair serves me. It can be anything from nicely shaped curls to almost straight depending on its "mood". Some days it's the short circuit type that only looks acceptable in a bun but I still don't complain. If I could change something, it would be the thickness and strength. Then I'd be able to reach the length I've always wanted.

I'm with you there. My hair has some days that it tries to wave... but the waves are slight and very short lived. Braid waves either hold well in my hair if I braided it when damp, or even better, paranda braid waves (or paranda rope braid waves, which I just discovered) because the waves go all the way to the end.
Just more thickness. And all the way down, please.
Yes. All the way down, so I can have a braid as thick as my wrist (granted, I do have pretty small wrists, but that would still be pretty impressive).
Actually, I would really like to have those kind of fairy tale waves, like Galadriel.

Abit thicker would be nice. I do feel jealous of those buns with wrap around braids coz If I tried that I would either have a teeny little bun or a braid like a shoelace! Oh, and a 'real' hair colour would be nice too (not my current mousey brownish/blondeish kinda something colour!).

I'd really just like my hair to be a bit wavier. I'm a pretty solid 1c at the moment, so my ends tend to flip out a bit, and sometimes the length near my face does a little curl thing, but that's about it. Since my hair's been short most of my life, and until recently I've always blow dried it after washing, I'm still kinda iffy on what my natural hair wave pattern actual is. I'm holding out hope that when it gets longer I'll have some long, loose waves... a girl can dream, haha :D

I want silkier, less fluffy hair and more thickness! I like my waves, but sometimes covet straight hair because it would frizz less.
I'd be totally willing to deal with not being able to hold a curl, and having ends that were hard to tuck into an updo if I could just have thick, silky hair.

I'd love to have 3c, coarse, iii hair--oh, wait a minute! that's what I have!
If I HAD to change hairtypes, I think I would go for a full on 4c type. I don't know if I'd want to stay a iii then, though, because I think that would be fairly unmanageable. 4cs tend to look as if they have high density even if they aren't, so I probably wouldn't need as much hair as I have now. I know the disadvantages because my mom has this hair type. Breakage! So need for ultra protection, which can be a pain. However, the advantages are that this hairtype feels sooo soft and 'sculpts' so well, which I adore, I could do twists that would stay, I could do a 'fro without struggling with 'flop' and damaging my hair (because I have to have really dry unhealthy hair or my hair won't 'fro even with all the work I have to do for this, rolling it up and curlers and then frizzing/teasing it out..) I wouldn't have liked to have this hairtype back in the day, when no one knew how to take care of it and your only option was to straighten it somehow and burn it off--but I'd love it nowadays when you can wear it natural, because to me it looks lousy straightened and damaged (even worse than mine does) but when it's natural--you must be a queen because you have a CROWN.
I know the fullness of type 4c would suit my face, too. If I had to change to something like type 1 or type 2 hair, though I love how it looks on other people, it doesn't suit me and I have NO clue how to deal with it. While 4c I could handle because I play with my mom's hair all the time now. I also can handle everything in the 3's, but prefer the tighter to the looser, that's just my personal taste.

I would like much thicker hair/strands. Imagine a 7 inch circumference :o
Amen to that!

Less tangles is my #1, easily! My fine hair has always been a tangle monster, when I was a child with finer hair I had knots so bad that some of them needed to be cut out. I've found a routine that has cut down on the amount of tangles I deal with during washing, and that has been a miracle for me. But I would love it if I never had to worry about that. :) I would like a bit more thickness, mostly as "insurance" in case I run into thinning issues, but for the most part I am happy with my thickness and relatively low level of taper. Buuuuuuuuuut I desperately wish I had waves. :o My dream waves are probably StellaKatherine's, actually. Defined waves that don't cause too much shrinkage- best of both worlds, in my opinion. :p I am constantly faking 2B wavy hair with my damp french twin braids, and I would like to have them for real. StellaKatherine, your hair is to die for! Glad you found your wavy routine and are loving your waves so much. <3

I do like having silky straight hair but I guess the grass will always be greener on the other side... I have been longing forever to have wavy hair. I guess the ideal would be somewhere 2b to 2c. To have s bit thicker hair is my dream also. I would keep my own texture. So slightly thicker, beautifully wavy F/M wild mess would be my choice.

I love 2a hair, but I also like 1c hair. I got both (2a when washed and 1c the next days). ;)

I have thick wavy hair that can tangle quite easily. Alot of times I really wish I had straight, silky hair and more of a fine texture.

I'd love to have a full 3a - I have a 2b with a little bit 2c. And a little more thickness would be great: 5 inches instead of 4.3 ;).

I'd just want thicker hair, like ii, normal thickness hair. I'm so tired of having pathetic looking hair. :(

It's easy for me to jump to WAVVVVY and want that, being that I've got pin straight hair. However, if I really think about it....As much as I'd love wavy or ringlet-y hair, I think in the end if it was permanent I'd opt for only two things - I'd like slightly courser hair, just one step up in actual hair strand thickness, just so it's less breakable. Then I'd like to have a big increase in thickness in general. I'm thinking a 4" ponytail circumference. That being said, I know the drawbacks would be I'd have WAY heavier hair and that would possibly be more uncomfortable, hot, etc. Need bigger hair toys for sure. Would take way longer for nearly knee length hair of that thickness to dry, etc. However, I'd be happy to deal with those things! :)

I'd like to downsize to ii thickness. I've had insanely thick hair all my life (6" circumference before my big shed, think it's 5" or a bit less now), and it's not as much fun as it seems, especially not with a stupid, sensitive scalp. ii is still thick in my opinion, but more manageable than iii. I'd also want to bump my texture up to 2c

To tell everyone the truth, I'm really happy with my hair right now. I can easily achieve sleek almost pin straight har with just air drying and brushing with a tangle teezer every once in a while, but my hair also holds braid/bun waves easily, and heck, do I love this kind of unruly hair :D Actual curls aren't held easily, which bugs me sometimes, but meh, something had to be sacrificed. I am also quite pleased with the thickness - of course, it could be a little thicker, but at least I don't experience the "thick problems" and I have a nice volume anyway :)
The one thing I'd change for sure are my flyaways. I have weird hair, as every individual strand ends in a little, tiny wave as it tapers, so it all just gives the illusion of me having giant frizz. But I don't care about it much. I've come to accept my hair as it is, and with the color henna gives me I'm really satisfied overall :)

Well it would be nice if was somewhat thicker and less prone to yucky greasiness, but I'm happy with what I've got. :)

I want thicker and less compactable hair. My hair is a little fluffy, so it hides the thinness when I wear it loose. Unfortunately, I have micro-bun syndrome and all of my hairdos end up pretty puny. I can't even do a half updo because there just isn't enough hair to go around.
Although, maybe the hair fairies could bring me magical hair that can grow 3 inches a day (as some Youtube videos claim, ha!) and never taper? :magic:

When I used to complain to my dad about my thick hair (I'm around 5" now, I don't know if I used to be more or not because I never measured before LHC) he would always say, wait until you are old, then you'll be grateful. Now I guess I'm old--(I'm 57) and I am grateful, so hang in there for another 25-30 years, Kittybird. Thick hair is a pain sometimes, but I don't think I'd know how to manage thinner hair and it's good at my age to know that if thinning really is inevitable in old age, I'll still have hair.

I want straight long stress free hair. I hate my puffy, wavy hair that in order to make it presentable needs some sort of styling.
I'm always watching those YouTube videos with girls who have long straight hair and no frizz. Some of them don't blow dry or use any product at all, others can use lots of smoothing serums and their hair shines even more.
So I really want pin straight hair
