View Full Version : Ficcare Sizing?

I would like to order a Ficcare but not sure about sizes. I would like to use it to keep my hair in when it is rolled up. I don't have thick hair at all but when it's rolled up it generally kills hair clips so I thought it was time for a proper Ficcare. So how would I figure out what size to buy?
Any suggestions for colours, are there some finishings that are better quality than others?

I'd probably go with a size medium, my hair is 32" and circumference is 3", and 1" at the very ends. A medium is the most comfortable size for me in a centre held cinnabun, although if you plan to grow a lot longer a large might be wise :)
A large fits ok for me as well. I cannot get a small to work at all now, though there are members here with much thicker hair who manage to use them in twists, half ups and sectioned buns.
I like both the acetate and enamel finishes, though the acetate range clips are slightly bigger IMO. The current jewel collection is my favourite of the new ficcares, the amethyst in particular just glows!
Hope this helps and best of luck! :flower:

I did a similar thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=121360)few moths ago. I bought an M, but it's still too big for me. I can use it on some buns but after lots of efforts on how to make and put. I received an S one recently, and I can say that it is definitely the size for me! But my hair is shorter and thinner than yours, so probably an M would be good for you. Maybe even a bigger one, but there I cannot help.

To give you a comparison. I have iii (4.25") hair and I use all three sizes. A S for a peacock twist and folded up braids. A M for a lazy wrap bun and a L for a cinnabun and buns you need to secure as a whole like that. I have almost (within an half an inch to an inch) TBL hair.

For me for buns, it actually took some maintaining so that my ends would thicken before a large would comfortably hold instead of starting to pull after a while. I was at tailbone the whole time, my circumference is about 2.5", but when I had more taper I had to make a small tight bun to keep the jaws of a large ficcare maximas separated at the tip enough to stay comfortable. You probably want a bun that's a good inch thick at minimum when compressed to use a large, and probably close to 4 inches across.
I can still wear a medium very comfortably, even though at this point larges also work well for buns. For a french twist-y thing (if yours are publicly presentable and not as disastrous as mine are!), I do much better with a smaller clip.
You definitely want to enough hair inside that the tip of the Ficcare stays open and isn't doing most of the holding. The springs are strong and will compress hair substantially, and if only the tip is holding the clip in place, it will rapidly become painful.

What I would use it for is something I do now with other clips but they don't hold well:
It's hard to explain, but I make curls by twisting my hair up from pony tail height (where a medium height ponytail would sit) and keep twisting and half way the top of my head I twist my hair around the rest of the hair and fasten with a clip. It produces the best curls and no curling tools are needed. Plus it looks good as an actual hair style too.
My hair is waist length I think (I haven't measured for a long time!)

Sounds like a medium should do just fine, especially you have fine hair. A large will work, too but probably feel a bit heavy and a Ficcare too large is much more likely to pull and snag hair.

A medium it is :) I think that will work. Thanks everybody :)

Thanks for asking! I was just wondering the same for me (I think I'll go for a medium as well). Which one are you planning to buy?

Thinking of getting the onyx one from this page: http://www.ficcare.com/Products.aspx?collId=124
I am tempted to get the emerald one, I love that colour, I think the onyx will match with more things
