I have had a stay in hospital and I am unable to do anything other than put my hair up today. My hair is nearly apl, this is my misbehaving new growth. I got a shock when I walked past the mirror. Hasn't it heard of gravity? I'm hoping that one day I'll have lovely neat hair. [

Haha good luck! My hair still does this, and I'm at waist now. Can't do much about that new growth!
Also, if you want sleek smooth updos, I can't recommend bangs or layers. Both tend to get very sticky-outy, especially in braids.

Mine does this at TB, and I can't wash it every day or the length gets royally ticked off. I just smooth the offending hairs with a brush and leave it alone.

Oh my, why did you take a picture of me and try to pass it off as yourself? I always have short new growth around my face and it always looks like that. I used to think it would grow but that seems to be my terminal length at my hairline. I still have this fantasy that it will grow some day but it's getting harder and harder to deny reality. :brickwall
BTW, hope you're feeling better soon.

Hehe, don't get me paranoid it's terminal, I'm already thinking it's growing slower than the rest!!

I am a little past waist and my hair doesn't do sleek. Clean or dirty it makes no difference. Maybe with gel and hair spray, but who wants that?

I hope it's not your terminal length. My hair is really fine and thin so it's probably different for you!

Washing it daily might just make it worse.

ha! you're not alone--my hair does that, too. in a halo surrounding my entire head, no less (it's especially sticky-uppy after my bike ride in to work, too...it's like it knows I really don't want to look super ridiculous as I scurry to my desk). I will say, the dirtier it is, the better it sticks back down--freshly washed is the worst for me.

I have to agree that my hair behaves better when I get a few days away from washday.

Mine does that. Bobby pins behind the ears solves it to a cetain degree.

Same here. I'm almost TBL, and I still get these wispy bits around my hairline. Agreeing that it's worse when it's freshly washed and that a few days of dirty hair does the world of good in taming them.

Ahh, baby hairs... :p I have a halo of those all the way around too, they're maddening! They're pretty common, really. Mine have a terminal length varying from about 2-5 inches, they won't ever get any longer. A Tangle Teezer can do a good job smoothing them out, and mine usually behaves better when my hair is about day 2-3 from a wash.
However, mine looked a lot like that when I got back from a brief hospital stay about a week and a half ago... I think there was something about the stress and environment that got it really dry and strange... It's not quite back to normal yet.
I do hope you're feeling better! :flowers:

My hair has always behaved like that, but after shedding badly over the last couple of years I'm grateful for any new growth I have.

I have a lot of those as well. Some are growing much more slowly than the rest, others are at terminal, and they look really funny in the morning before combing ;)
They don't misbehave as much on the second and third day after a wash. If you have no other reason for washing daily, you could give this a try.

Mine is always like that. It is slightly better since I switched to CO, but I will always have wild wispies.

I always get that a few hours after putting my hair up especially if I have been outside. It's normal. Wash routine to me makes no difference. Less frequent washing isn't going to cover up the new wispy growth.

Mine does that. I call them my wings. They seriously make it look like I could just take off and fly at any moment!

My hair does that too !
It gets better when I oil those little hair but I can't do it so often cause I wash my hair 1 (or sometimes 2) time a week and I don't want to go out with dirty oily little hair on my head lol

The ones right near my temples I refer to as my "horned owl tufts" because they make me look like this:
