I'd like to get a pink dymondwood fork, but cannot decide which one. Will you help me with this pleasing (and potentially enabling) task? :D

I narrowed it down to two forks:

and this:

A bit info about my hair: It's not slippery so updos hold very well. It's hard to insert thick prongs into it because it's so coarse.

I'm also open to any other alternatives you come across ;)

Hm... 2 very great choices, Dreams! I love both of those makers, I have one fork from each. :o

The Hacksaw prongs aren't as thick as say, a Jeterfork, and the prongs do taper for insertion into hair. I have thick hair too and don't have any problems at all with my Hacksaw. That being said, the GVW has sharper, quite skinny tines that can go through the thickest, most stubborn bun.
Some days my hair is slippery and the Hacksaw holds like a champ. If you never have that problem, I think you'd be really pleased with the GVW for your hair.
Both forks are very pretty.

May i ask the reason for picking that one? :) (usability or personal preference?)

Nice, that was a good review :) I guess GVW will be better? I'll wait for more replies :D

Well I can only give an opinion based on looks as I don't own a fork by either maker but I think the Hacksaw fork is GORGEOUS! The colours and patterning are stunning. :crush:

I love how bright the GVW fork is. I also prefer the shape.

Personally I think the hacksaw is more beautiful. Also the tines are a little shorter so it will not poke out the other side of the bun quite as much. I like a fork that is not much larger than the diameter of my bun for aesthetic reasons. I don't own forks from either of these makers so I can not vote according to hold.

It's always trouble when you ask a group of mostly women to help you make a shopping choice. I did that last weekend & ended up buying *both* of the items. Oops!

How about buy one style now in pink & favorite the other style in a different color to buy next? Aesthetically, I like the shape of the Hacksaw. That's a completely uneducated opinion.

I don't own a Hacksaw fork. But I would buy the GVW. I really like this maker. My favorite forks are GTS tusks, but my second favorite is GVW - over Jeter and 60th street. It's a narrow win, all 3 of those makers make excellent forks. My hair is fine/medium and sometime Jeter's are hard for me to put in. The sharpness of the tines and ready availability make GVW a winner for me. I will say his photos are dark. I have several forks from him and they always look better in person, imo.

This is a great point. The FL on the GVWC is 4 7/8 and the FL on Hacksaw is 4 3/8. That's not an insignificant difference. What is your bun diameter and how much do you like prongs sticking out the other side of the bun?

ETA: Whoa, did you guys notice that our own SarahLabyrinth is the model for the GVWC! Either that, or her absolute hair twin! What gorgeous pics! :)

I have not tried either marker but based color, size, and time shape, Hacksaw is winner to me.

I've owned both makers and GVWC is nicer IMO. Of course I have sold all but my Jeters as they are always the top choice for me.

I like the color of the hacksaw better, but I can personally attest to the quality of Jim's (GVW) work. I once asked him about woods and he offered to buy whatever I wanted if he didn't have it already. So he's very amenable to that. Ask him about other colors. I know there is an availability issue though now with dymondwood because the manufacturer's mill burnt down. But he still might be able to get you a better pink.

However, if you don't want to bother with all that, I would still go with the GVW. The quality is just outstanding and that, to me, is more important that the perfect color. That said, I think those vibrant pinks and purples would look great against your hair color.

OMG, I jsut placed order like an hour ago for the one with the rounded top and four teeth. I had this one and another one, square top, similar colors, from the same seller, both in my cart since a week ago, trying to decide. But the square one sold, and I panicked and I just pressed paypal button for the round one. I am happy to read that it is from a good maker, but kinda sad now , reading that a girl from the forum also wanted it..... :( I am a bit sorry now, maybe I shouldn't have gotten it.

It feels weird....I apologize if I made you sad.

Oh my god Adiro, was that you? :D I was shocked to see it gone today when i visited etsy. Don't worry though, i'm not sad :) you saved me from a splurge. Maybe i'll just get the other one, or i can contact the seller. Not that i need the fork to survive LOL :D

By the way, awesome input from everyone, thank you all for providing such insight about these two hairtoy makers!

I bought the Hacksaw one, both because the other one was sold and somehow i like the color and shape better. Hope it turns out okay :)

I also saw that fork and considered it. But the way it has 4 prongs turned me off, because even a 3 prong one is difficult to insert into my hair. Love the color though!

I have one 4 prong hairfork and even though it does take little longer while to insert it in my hair, it still is possible :) I am happy to hear you got the 3 prong Hacksaw fork! I am sure it will look amazing in your hair! Hopefully you post some photos when it arrives ;)

I highly doubt you'll be disappointed, Dreams_in_Pink... Hacksaw doesn't get as much attention around here as I think he should. Can't wait for pics.

Dreams in Pink, I hope it fits you beautiful and that you get to really enjoy it! I am glad I didn't do something to upset you, It's one when I get it and I'm happy ( or say I win a bid on ebay, and I dont care who loses it) but i just felt a bit shocked when I read your thread like an hour later after I got the fork....
