Anyone here sew their hair into place? I've been reading about Kevin Murphy doing it, but not sure how practical or time consuming it would be for every day.

There's something called Elizabethean Hair Taping that uses ribbons. I've never tried it myself.

I've actually seen "hair sewing". I have a German language DVD of one of the famous "Sissi" films. In the extras section there's footage of the hairdresser using needle and thread on Romy Schneider's beautiful Elizabeth of Austria wigs to keep it all together and hanging "just right". Fascinating!

As for practicality, in order for it to be realistic and as close to your hair's natural color, you'd have to find the corresponding hair color thread...or maybe use fine plastic filament thread (with a large, blunt needle).

Apparently linen thread is the best, as it had natural texture to help it stay. But brown linen thread shouldn't be too hard to find, or brown poly/cotton thread. If it takes ages, or is very fiddly, that puts me off. I have thick enough hair that I'm always on the look out for new ways of keeping it rock solid.

Here is Torrin Paige doing it, brilliantly as usual! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqbAdvL8kME

I use satin ribbon and learned form Torrin Paige's video, there are also several examples of hair sewing in the videos by JanetStephens (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCboS0faGVeMi3n5_2LsVazw). I find it much easier now than it was 3 years ago, but you will likely want some kind of clip(s) or pin(s) to hold the hair in place while you are getting it stitched, then the clip(s)/pin(s) can be removed.
