Hi, I am new here, ..... well that's original I am sure!

For most of my working life I was in a job where long hair, that is over collar length, was quietly discouraged. Now that I am not there such restrictions do not apply and I have just let it 'do it's thing'.

I managed to get past the annoying fly-away bit and restricted it in a pony tail, this was good as it stopped accidents while trimming the beard. It was tentatively suggested I use an elasticated band or similar, but I didn't think that went with the heavy metal biker image.

My partner braids my hair, I can braid cords in front of me, but I need to be able to see what I'm doing.

Welcome to LHC, Guzzi!

Ponytail elastics are not hair friendly. Over time they can cause breakage. Ponytails worn daily can lead to traction alopecia. Worse case scenario, you can actually go bald in the spot where the ponytail once sat.

So, for the health of your hair, look for some other means of containing your hair...a leather length of cord, a dark ribbon, or a one piece barrette. Good luck!

My partner warned me about pony-tails and talked me into having it braided. She has had long hair all her life and tries to educate me, split ends
are still a mystery but I am assured I have very few.

Things will get easier with time, length, and practice. There's a braiding thread here, if you need tips. Good luck!
