Should scalp skin be shiny?

Hi all, I was just wondering if the skin on your scalp is normally shiny or should it be matte.

Im asking as I've noticed my skin is shiny on the top of my head and it looks like I don't have as much hair there as I should. I wash everyday and I don't have oily hair, so I don't think it's sebum. My shed rate is normal at the moment although I am recovering from a large shed last year in which you could noticeably see my scalp at the sides.

Do you think this looks normal or like thinning? The second photo shows it a bit better. It's hard to get a decent pic.

I notice bald men are shinier on top compared to forehead or cheeks. But maybe not nose.

Probably a matter of amount of sebum secreted. Smells fine? Looks fine? It's fine! Don't worry. ;)

My ex was bald on top and his scalp was shiny. And your hair looks lovely in both photos!

If you're not shedding a crazy amount of hair I wouldn't worry about it. Looks fine to me!

Agree, it looks fine to me as well. Your hair is very fine, so it's normal to notice your scalp. I can see mine too, and still I'm not balding or anything like that :wink:

Well, mine isn't shiny, but my skin only typically gets shiny when it's feeling dry and tight and unpleasant. Mine might do that if I shampoo too much, because it's contrary that way.

Your hair looks OK to me. Only way to tell if it's thinking would be to monitor it over time, though. Do you think it's getting thinner?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure if it looks like it's thinning at the front around the section where section where my bangs start. I seem to have less hair there. But I can't be sure if it's always been like that. When I had my big shed last year, I seemed to lose most hair at the front and side sections of my head. So I'm wondering if some parts didn't recover. I do have massive amounts of regrowth. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. I just associate shiny scalp with baldness. I'll keep my eye on it, see if it gets any worse over the next few months.
