Hi everyone,
Does anyone have experience with Bodyshop haircare products? I've been looking at their hair butters, body butters and hair serums and would really like to try some. Should I, or am I more likely to obtain good results with (cheaper) oils?
I'm also interested in Lush haircare products. I know their conditioners contain small amounts of sulfate, which I'm not a great fan of, but using them every once in a while shouldn't be too much of an issue, I think. Anyone care to their share their experiences with Lush products? Thanks very much in advance.
For what it's worth, I have armpit-length hair, fairly thin and wavy. I'm a 2b or 2c most days although SMTs turn me into a 3a. I CO-wash every three days and am committed to staying shampoo-free for a while, but I do like trying out different types of conditioners and moisturisers...

2 Lush products I really like are R&B hair moisturiser, I always get compliments on the scent and my ends just drink it up, they love it. Also the Jasmine and Henna Fluff Ease hair treatment, if you have fluffy floaty staticy, almost cobwebby hair then this adds weight and shine and softness, nice scent too.

Hello:) I've tried a lot of lush products ( I used to be a die hard lushie, but as you mentioned they do put sulfates in a lot of there hair care stuff, so now i stick with the bath things and shower gels). If you don't mind the small sulfate use, I would suggest American Creamor Veganese. Keep in mind though, that most of lush's conditioners are a thinner consistency than others. They do have two soild conditioners, Big soild conditioner and Jungle. Big is sulfate free, Jungle is not. I personally have not used the soilds before, so how to use them, Im not sure. Their pre poo treatments are nice, but they also contain sulfates, except for the Hair Doctor. However if you do use these, despite what people say, you do not need half a pot to do a treatment. A pot lasted me 6 months and I had BSL hair at the time. Super Balm is a scalp treatment, no sulfates no silacones, for itchy scalp, and dandruff. R& B is another no sulfates product, but is more of a leave in hair mositerizer. Dirty Hair Cream is a styling cream with firm hold, and no sulfates or silacones. Zeste is their styling gel, and they Sea salt spray, same as the dirty cream, no sulfates, however they do have a drying alcohol in them. And of course, they have their Henna treatments, if you do henna or are considering it. Hope this helps you in some way:) And welcome to the forum:D

I don't have experience with them, but I've heard a lot of good thinks of the banana conditioner from the body shop. You can see the ingredients online.

I've never used Body Shop hair products, but their body butters are fantastic.
I find Lush a bit overrated, their hair products were drying for me but others have good success with them. I find their body products a faff, I forget what I have if it's in the fridge, and I also find it quite expensive. They do smell amazing, though, there is no denying it!
For my hair, mostly natural care was the way forward. The only products I use are shampoo bars, Nigtblooming's Freya salve and one of her henna blends. Other people do find store bought products best, but oils do the same job for me mostly.

I use Lush's Godiva shampoo and conditioner bar with good results and no noticeable drying yet. I'm nearly APL, though, so maybe if it was longer I'd notice something.
Haven't use any of their conditioners.
Never used anything from the BodyShop, sorry

I just went in a Lush store for the first time about 2 weeks ago and didn't think I could buy anything because of the prices. But they had these cute little tins of perfumey balm. The guy said I could use it on my hair ends and I believed him. I AM using it on my hair ends and so far they haven't disintegrated (disclaimer: after 6 years of being on LHC I'm over trying to preserve my ends or get a 'healthy hemline' :o)). I think there was a little alcohol in there but it's mostly oils. I love the smell.

I love body shop. I use their chapstick and lotions and I experiment with their hair stuff when they want to give me specials. I can't live with out their tea tree oil face wash.

I like Body Shop banana shampoo and conditioner. I also really like Lush Seanik salt shampoo bar, BIG shampoo and pretty much anything else except their conditioners :) not a fan of those really.
I do like a bit of jungle solid conditioner rubbed through damp hair now and then but only to scent it.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with me, everyone! I'm a huge fan of Lush's bath products and the Bodyshop's body butters and chapsticks, which is why I'm asking about their other products. I love the scent of the Bodyshop's banana conditioner; I'm very tempted to try that. I'm still sad they discontinued their apple shampoo line, about ten years ago now. That stuff was fantastic. I'd be tempted to go back to using shampoo if it were still around.
I've looked at several Lush conditioners over the last few months. The only reason why I haven't bought one yet is because they are, as several people have pointed out, quite pricey, and I have quite a few bottles of conditioner sitting in my cupboard, waiting to be used up.
JustPam, I may try the hair products you mentioned. They sound excellent. I definitely have fluffy, staticky hair on wash days, so that Jasmine and Henna Fluff treatment might be right up my alley.
PsychoLoverly, the fact that Lush's conditioners are thinner than regular is actually a point in their favour, as far as I'm concerned. Thin, runny conditioner is good for CO-washing.
MsBubbles, I have one of those solid perfume thingies. I never thought of using it on my hair! If we're talking about the same thing, I'll have to give that a shot...
I'll report back before long, I suspect...

The other side of thin conditioners is if you are using them undiluted, they are even more expensive.
I use lush SLS bars when traveling. My conditioner bars are from etsy. Various sources.
I want to like jungle, I really do. I'm on a second try, after letting years lapse.
I was hoping it would work, nay shine, as a scalp cleanser. Nope. It leaves it greasy yet somehow not greatly conditioned and I have to wash sooner.
People who wash alternating days might love this, however.
Big works better. I've used a sample. (Is big the conditioner with salt?) One benefit to lush is samples.
I'm sure I've tried body shop hair care. Since I can't recall any of it, it must not have been stellar.
Oh, wait, the honey shampoo that left all of my hair like Velcro. Don't use it in low humidity environments!

Just a heads-up, as no one seems to have mentioned it yet - all Lush conditioners contain SLS. (Why they put that in a *conditioner*, no idea!)
I've used a few Body Shop products (used to love the banana conditioner, years ago ;)) They've all been fine, but nothing that special, results-wise (apart from the original banana conditioner).

I'm a Bodyshop Hairwasher *raises hand*. Their Rainforest Radiance 'for colored hair' shampoo is quite nice, it's very mild and doesn't foam so the 'no SLS' claim on that one seems to be true. However I now have the Rainforest Radiance for Dry and Damaged Hair and that DOES foam like normal shampoo despite the 'no SLS!' label. Which is not to my liking.
Their bananaconditioner is good, not holy grail for me but okay. Their hairbutter is DIVINE every once in a while, but sometimes my hair really doesn't like it, and it's so rich that if I leave it in longer than the recommended time my hair goes al sticky and yuck, even after a good rinse. My mom (thin, thin, thin hair) uses it as hairgel though and she swears by it.
They also have a can with coconut scented wax, for dry ends. That I usually use for the :crush: smell :crush: because my hair doesn't particularly like oil, but friends have been using it and they swoon and sigh over it. Some of their liquid oil serums though are just 10 euro dispencers of silicone so read the label before you buy! (also, my SO used their ginger antidandruff shampoo. Oooooh, the smell.... So lovely! So, I tried it once, and then used the coconut oil afterwards. Ginger + coconutvanilla = weird currylike odor in hair. Succes it was not.)
So, all in all, I quite like their products, but they don't make my heart beat faster any more. They've served their purpose for me to slowly wean me off from the very SLS-y coney stuff, since they're quite mild. I'm gonna dip my toes into the gentler brewitinyourkitchen kinda things soon. But, they're not very agressive, smell nice, and my hair looks absolutely better then when I was on Pantene or Elvive or stuff like that.

Actually, Rosetta, I mentioned the sulfates myself in my original post. Thanks for the warning, though -- I appreciate it. :-)
Also, Rosetta, has the Bodyshop's banana conditioner changed since you first used it years ago?
Majorane, I'm glad you mentioned the Bodyshop hair butter and coconut-scented wax, because those are the products I'm most interested in. So you and your Mum and your friends like 'em, eh? That's good to hear. I strongly suspect I'll give them a try when I'm up for experimenting again. However, at the moment both my purse and my hair seem to be telling me to take it easy for a little while. They're spoilsports that way. :-)

Oops, I'm sorry I missed that mention in your first post! As for the banana conditioner, I think it has slightly different ingredients now, though I have no way of checking that now (and I didn't even read INCI's back then)... It may also be a case of time colouring my memories, but I just remember it being a wonderful product for my lightened, permed hair back then ;)

I used Body Shop's Rainforest Shine shampoo and conditioner as my first SLS and cone free products. They were nice, but not amazing for my hair. I was gifted the Rainforest Moisture hair butter, I really like that one but haven't used it in a while since I found the right conditioner for me.. though the scent-combo with that conditioner is lovely! (Conditioner smells like butter toffee, the hair butter like vanilla!) I need to dig that hair butter out now :p
Also, me and my dry skin can't possibly live witout Body Shop's body butters.. mango is my fave! Yumm :)
Before I found LHC I used H'Suan Wen Hua (nope, didn't remember the name, had to copy it from the LUSH site lol) as a treatment fairly regularly and found it to be very good to my damaged hair, but it contains SLS, so it's a no-go for my scalp nowadays.. and I agree, you do not have to use as much as they say at LUSH!
