Found out the my favorite shampoo and conditioner are being discontinued. This leaves me very frustrated as I have to go and find something else that works just as good, and it seems to happen every three years or so. Ughh.
What do you all do when you find this out?

My holy grail shampoo was a sample bottle a local avon rep gave me to try when I was a teenager. If I remember right (teenage years were a looooong time ago), it was a blue opaque shampoo in a blue-green bottle. It washed my hair without aggravating my scalp issues and left it perfectly conditioned with no buildup. Of course, by the time I was finished with the sample size, they had put the name on a totally different product that aggravated everything. I have been looking for a product to do the same thing ever since. I've found products that work just fine, but nothing that soothed by my scalp and hair at once or made me as happy with my hair as that avon product did.

Usually, I curse profusely. That and lament, why the one product I love, of all the products out there!?!
This goes for makeup, too.
(Yes, I mean you Neutrogena foundation soft gold #40).

Write down the ingredients and take it with if you're going to search other products. This way you can try to find something similar. You can try to buy some bottles that are still left so you still got some time to find something else.

You could look on eBay and try to buy it that way. I did that to a product I liked that had been discontinued.

Check Amazon and Drugstore.com also - that's what I did a few months ago when I found out my favorite shampoo and conditioner was not going to be made any longer. Bought four bottles of each.

What do I do? Swear loudly. Cry, maybe. Promise to seek vengeance and unleash my wrath upon the jerk who made this horrible decision.
But seriously, scour clearance sections, sometimes places like Big Lots will have them after they've been missing from regular stores. Ebay's a great suggestion, and if someone sells it on Amazon you can bulk order whatever's left. And absolutely write down the ingredients, and try to find a replacement that's similar.

After much cursing, I go out searching for said product or products in local stores. Pretty much anything within a 3 hour drive. After that I check on line and see if I can find it. If I do I buy all I can and hoard it. I never use any products twice a row so things can last me a really long time. Frequent use for me would be using any given product once every two weeks.

I do buy conditioners (I co-wash) but I try to use products like Kimberlily's defrizz spray and the SMT which its possible to make yourself. Its easy to get ingredients at the various health food stores and online now.
You can also adjust store products by adding things, like oils to conditioners and so forth.

Look at the stuff you liked in the conditioner, e..g collagen, hydrolyzed castor oil, coconut oil, argan oil, aloe vera - and find products with the sameish ingredients, it will more than likely do the same job.

Don't really have a favourite product. There are some I like, so even if one's discontinued there'll still be the other ones. Or alternative methods of hair-care... you know, baking soda (works perfectly for me), herbal rinses and all that.

Cry!! It's all very well stockpiling, but there will come a day when you will run out and there is no more to be had the world over. So really, you need to find a new favourite product, which is often a frustrating experience. But sometimes, you find something amazing and wonder why you never tried it before!

I hate when this happens! I look in local stores and try to stock up. Then look on ebay. Usually after a while I find something else to replace it with that works just as good.

My favorite shampoo was discontinued, but its replacement works even better. I wouldn't have tried a new shampoo if the old one were still being made.

Find a replacement ASAP. I have no interest in 'stockpiling ' or hoarding every last bottle I can find. What's the point, you will run out one day and have to find a replacement then. Why delay the inevitable.

eBay and online retailers often still have discontinued products! You could also contact the manufacturer and ask them which retailers may still have it in stock.

Scour the LHC for product recommendations! Between all of us, we've tried it all! Of course YMMV, but this happens to everyone sooner or later. It's better to find a variety of products that work. Ahh the endless experimentation of it all.

Stockpile/ hoard and wonder if they can make a special edition of "Hoarders" just for you ("Hoarders, the stockpiling of hair product edition"). Get frustrated and "save" the hoard for a future date, while frantically searching for something similar.
EdG makes a good point though, sometimes it forces you to venture out and try new things, which can lead to new discoveries that are even better..

Sometimes finding a replacement takes *time*. In the mean time it would be great if you have product to fall back on. ;)

I find them on Amazon and stock. Meanwhile I experiment with products with similar ingredients and start reading revies on product sites like Makeup Alley.
It is a time consuming pain in the rear but it has helped me find some new products that I enjoy. I get so annoyed with companies constantly changing formulas or discontinuing a great product. I will never forgive Garner for what they did to Triple Nutrition.
