I joined this forum 4 years ago on the first of August. I have tried many of the ideas on here at least once (and a few only once shudder:). Never the less, I have the longest, healthiest hair of my life, and I have you all to thank for it. As we all eventually learn, the most important thing for growth is time. Hairtoys help too :cool:.

I'm not much of a picture taker, so I only offer starting and ending pictures for this thread.

Beginning length. I'd actually been growing my hair out for several months at this point from a chin-length bob.

Wow! Beautiful hair. So shiny!!! Is that your natural hair colour? It looks so rich :) Congratulations! Did you trim often during the growing process?

Thank you all. Yes, this is my natural color. I trim about an inch or so when it needs it bad enough. Probably every 9 months or so.

Wow, I never realized that my growth was all that unusual. I have almost exactly 24 more inches of hair than I started with, which would be the 6 inches a year average. I guess I did grow a bit more than that since I've done small trims 4-5 times, but not a lot more. Current length, just measured for the first time in ages 39.5 inches.

On a serious note - that is a gorgeous head of hair you are sporting, congratulations on such healthy, long growth :D

As a newbie, this kind of thing is really inspirational to see - that is amazing growth. You mentioned you'd been growing for several years before the first photo - did you notice a change (speeding up) in the rate of growth after you started on here?

Congratulations! Your before picture looks like mine when I started to grow mine long, (last summer). Keep doing what you are doing, because it shows in your hair. :)

What beautiful hair ! And what a lovely, warm and amazing colour. And in a wonderful condition. Congratulations, and I am really happy for you. I am happy for me too since joining here because my hair doesn't grow six inches a year, more like 4 to 5 and I need to trim half an inch every three months really to keep the ends from fraying. Not due to abuse just very fine and fragile hair. So If I gain two inches a year I am doing very well. I am on track this year (-: and I am really happy and contented with my hair.

Before I would have admired your hair as much, and not been jealous, but would have felt very discouraged at my progress.....Sorry off track. I love this site and your hair (-;

Thank you. I would not have made it without this board!

Excentricat what lovely hair. The colour is beautiful.

How did u maintain it to be so beautiful, long and healthy. Your routine
Calling what I do these days a routine is giving it a lot of credit. I wash 2-3 times a week as needed, only applying to my scalp. I am cone free, but I do use sulfates. I rotate every shampoo between a sulfate free and a heavily sulfated shampoo. (Yes to Cucumbers and Lush's New) This keeps my dandruff away without having to use dandruff shampoo. I condition with Tressemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture. Sometimes I CWC, but usually just WC. I loosely braid or pineapple and let dry overnight. In the morning I comb it out and put it up. Braid at night. My hair is not a huge fan of oils in general, so I don't use anything daily. I do have a small pot of panacea that I put on the ends at least once a week, and I'll do a long oil treatment if I think the whole lot of it needs work, but otherwise it is just plain up. I S&D occasionally, but not rigorously. Really benign neglect with emphasis on the benign.

I've never paid attention to my growth rate before, so I really have no idea. I'd only been growing for a few months before the first photo. I'd grown my hair out before, but not with any care, just with pony tails and not cutting. When the splits got too bad, I'd cut it all off and start over.

You will get there eventually. One of my original hair inspirations has had hip length hair the entire time I've known her. It wasn't until last year that I found out her growth rate is more like 4 in. a year too. Good luck in your journey.
