Hello everybody,
I have been trying to grow my hair out from a reverse mullet type hair cut (the one Posh Spice used to have), and I've found some great information on this site. Around this time last year, my shortest piece of hair was around two inches long, and the longest was chin length. Now my hair is all the same length, and on the way to APL. I think it's around 14 inches. I just wanted to say thanks to everybody for all the brilliant advice.
Though I used to dye my hair a lot and use quite a bit of heat, luckily because of finances and laziness my hair was in an OK condition to begin with.
The things that I have found useful so far are
-Learning about hair type, and what that might mean for the optimal treatment of my hair.
-I've experimented with using horn and wooden combs, and I'm using one from the body shop at the moment. I might try a tangle teaser next.
-Learning about proper S&D. Though I haven't started doing it yet, I used to go at my split ends with a kitchen scissors when I was a teen. At least I know not to do that again!
-CWC. It is brilliant for my thick, frizzy hair.
-Pre-wash hair oiling. I'm still figuring out what type of oil my hair likes best, if at all. I switch between coconut, olive oil, and argan oil.
-Learning about mechanical damage. I used to use the hair elastics with the metal bits. Now I use scrunchies and soft hair-bands when I'm at home, and the goody (no metal bit) hair ties when out. I've also bought some spin pins, and a satin pillowcase which I love.
-I found the sciency hair blog, and got a hair analysis done. Though it's a bit more difficult to interpret the results because I don't have access to the same sorts of products, I'm confident it will be handy as I experiment with different ingredients.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to posting here more in the future. Happy growing! :)
