Just wanted to finally say hello and introduce myself.:)
I've been lurking and learning as much as I can over the last few weeks. I have BSL length hair at the moment, well at least my longest layer is. I went in for a "light trim" in March of this year and ended up with face-framing layers which I didn't ask for:mad: I have NO intention of getting my hair cut ever again. I am going to grow until at least the end of the year and then do a self micro trim if I feel like I need to. I have ditched the shampoo and am doing CO washing. My hair seems to love it. It's been really smooth and silky. I've started putting my hair in a loose top knot or sock bun every night and I love the waves I have the next day. I'm doing coconut oil treatments about once a week and oiling the ends lightly most nights. I also have discovered the wonderful world of hairtoys and received my first Jeterfork yesterday. My goal is to get to waist length and then re-assess whether I want to keep growing or maintain.
I am going to be 49 next month and I think long healthy hair is beautiful at ANY age. I am not ready to embrace the gray yet so I do colour my hair but I have switched from a permanent to a semi-permanent dye and I'm only touching up the re-growth, not the length.
I'm looking forward to "meeting" everyone.

Hi Clarkie! It's nice to "meet" you :)
I'm also growing out layers that were more extreme than I asked for. I absolutely agree that long hair can be beautiful on anyone. I look forward to reaching our goals together!

Hi Clarkie! It's nice to "meet" you :)
I'm also growing out layers that were more extreme than I asked for - the layers sticking out of braids are driving me bananas. I absolutely agree that long hair can be beautiful on anyone. I look forward to reaching our goals together!

Hello Clarkie, and welcome to the community!
Many people come here after bad salons experiences, and I actually think something like hairdressers are evil and I frankly can't see any good reason to go to a salon if you want to grow your hair.
You can learn many ways to cut your own hair, the most popular here is the Feye's method (http://feyeselftrim.livejournal.com/) for compact cuts but there's also a thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=114348) about layers (thanks, Lapushka!).
Happy growing!
