There was a link to this tutorial (http://www.intimelyfashion.com/2008/07/20/edwardian-twist/)on the Buns and Braids Reference List (thanks to whomever bumped that thread; I had forgotten about it!)

I decided to try it this morning. When I got to the point of making the bun with the remaining hair, I really didn't have enough hair to make a proper bun (I'm close to BSL) so I made a giant pincurl and pinned it on top. I think it turned out nice and thought I would share for anyone else around my length.

By the way, to get this giant pincurl, I used an empty toliet paper roll. Worked like a charm!

Thank you Nesori, Johannah & deelala!

Today was the first time I used the empty toilet paper roll to make a pin curl... one of those light bulb moments (that I'm sure someone else has already done!) I usually use my fingers but the tp roll helped keep the shape since it is larger than most of the pin curls I make.

How cute! :) I've never been able to make those styles, they just do not work with my hair; pity, as I love them.

Wow, lovely, and I'm definitely going to try the tp toll idea. Would you please explain how the curl is pinned after rolling? How do you keep it secure?

I like the way it turned out. I'm going to try this in my hair and I wish you could do a video on your hair style.

This is a lovely style! Interesting note on the toilet paper roll :) I've been thinking about hairstyles to fit in with steampunk theme and this could be up there (despite edwardian not victorian base ;D).

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Winship, I keep my left hand holding the pincurl in place and use my right hand to gently remove the TP roll (short, back and forth twisting motions worked for me). I then use my free right hand to grab bobby pins to secure it. I pinned this curl at the "bottom" since I rolled the hair under. It is very secure but keep in mind, this is the leftover hair which has already been secured at the nape per the tutorial. Does that make sense?

I have naturally curly hair so it is easily convinced to curl; the pin curl may work better on straighter hair if it is misted with water first.
