It looks bra strap to me. I think mid back is closer to waist.

I believe she had to have a wig/extensions for the later movies as her own hair was chopped short to play another role.

In the books I always saw her with waist + but probably mainly due to the fact that in my head she hid behind her hair lots (don't think that was described just how I saw her)
