Elrond's Hair: how on earth..?

I have always wondered how to do this hairstyle! I think it would be to difficult to do on my myself but I've got a really good friend who loves learning new things to do on my hair (thank goodness!). Anybody have any idea how it's done, or have seen pictures of it other than this one?

The top looks like a basket weave http://youtu.be/2NDrCCU8nfQ I can't tell if the side is a regular braid, rope or fishtail. But then obviously finishes in a fishtail braid. :)

The top kind of reminds of a pie with a lattice crust but I have no idea what it could be (other than the fishtail). It's really awesome though.

Wow! That's a great tutorial thank you! I agree the sides do look roped or at least twisted to hide the sides of the weave! (hahaha Hugo Weaving with a weave :P)

The sides looks like a lace braid to me. But I'm not sure, it's only a guess)))

Maybe the weaving sections are geld individually to use in the lace braid additions!
