They're not favorite yet, but I ordered from MapleBurl this week and if his stuff is half as nice as it looks, I'll open a thread here... Oh and I have been loving my dymondwoodforks from woodenhairforks for at least three years. Wonderful headcurve in their forks! I did some extra sanding on them but I check their page every once in a while and buy if nice.

What a nice idea for a thread, I am going to check your hidden pearls!

NOOOO... Ohfaro has AMAZING stuff! Oh, I didn't need to know, only I did. Woah! What did you order??
The other one, pepperlonely is also nice, but some of the things I have seen on ebay for less, so it's a reseller, at least partially. At least I think. Not that it matters... :)

I haven't tried Rootiebirds yet, but I've been watching this lovely fork https://www.etsy.com/listing/184146738/hair-fork-or-shawl-pin-hand-forged?ref=shop_home_active_20. She's got some pretty hand forged hair pins, too.

Oooh, congrats! That is the best excuse ever to buy pretties. Did you buy the things you put pictures of in your first post? If so: fantastic taste, esp. the second and last are awesome. And the copper forks..! Oh my.

I'm going to kick myself for revealing this UK seller! I love PerfumeCollectors aka Suzan West. Super thick acrylic sticks. I love them all.

I like MapleBurl and I've also checked out Rootiebirds, I like their industrial looking stuff.

Elizabella Design (https://www.etsy.com/shop/ElizabellaDesign) on Etsy! I think her work is so pretty, and she had very good customer service when there was a mix up with my order.

I, too, am lusting after several items from RootieBirds and Elizabella Design. Some others that I've favorite-d several items from are:

Keepandcherish, like this beautiful hair fork: https://www.etsy.com/listing/175430078/hair-fork-hair-pin-mermaid-copper-and?ref=listing-6

I haven't seen anyone mention https://www.etsy.com/shop/ayujewelry - I haven't ordered anything from them, but they have some nice cheap 2-prong forks and some sticks.

Just wanted to give a rave to Queen Bee Apothecary, to both her products and her Lush scent dupes. I got a couple that I smelled side by side with the originals, and they are spot on! Reasonable prices too, which is nice since Lush is so expensive. She has quite a few of the discontinued scents as well as a few current ones, and you can get them in haircare, body care, products for the home, etc.. So exciting! (Also a whole list of various other scents as well)

I have recently ordered from Rootiebirds and Dreaming Dragon Designs.

Katie from Rootiebirds was making me customs earrings and I can't praise enough her fast communication and pleasant manner. Earrings were posted today after only one week during which she ordered the silver and made the earrings. Excellent person to deal with. Such a pity her hair forks are too heavy for my hair.

DDD was not very good on the speed or communication on their 'ready to be posted' hair sticks (apparently owing to an out of town emergency), but the sticks arrived yesterday and are very nice and hold beautifully. So if, unlike me, you can wait patiently for a reply, then this seller is worth it.

Do you got some sticks as well? I got the shop in my favorites for years but never bought anything because I didn't know whether I'd like her work, quality wise (because it looks amazing!). Though I'm only interested in sticks because other hair toys doesn't work for my hair, or at least not as good as sticks.

why did I enter this thread...whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

In the last month I've spent too much at etsy to even want to add up the total. When the credit card bill comes in I am due for a full-blown panic! Every time I read a thread on hair toys, I end up buying two. Even if I manage to resist for a while and I am reading just to share peoples' excitement with their purchase, I end up succumbing eventually. I just can't seem to keep my finger off the Buy button! Fortunately some are just too heavy for my measly hair so common sense has stopped me from some of the heavier pieces so at least there's a bit of a limit to my greed.

Clarkie
August 25th, 2014, 12:08 PM
Beezle, I'm right there with you. A couple of months ago I didn't even know what a hairtoy was!!!! Now I'm an Etsy addict. My credit card bill will be scary too :(

Beezle
August 25th, 2014, 12:33 PM
Do you think we might slow down before we have to declare bankruptcy? Maybe it's just a learning curve, combined with greed and credit card consequence blindness and once we know what suits us, we will stop? wishful thinking never hurt

Clarkie
August 25th, 2014, 12:39 PM
I've imposed a buying freeze on myself for now. I've vowed not to buy anything else until I reach 28 inches of length. Then I'll treat myself. That's the plan anyway.
I'm still waiting on 2 orders from MapleBurl, some Eaduard sticks and a custom order from Mountain Musings. Gah!!!!

Beezle
August 25th, 2014, 01:00 PM
Oooooohhhh. Sounds familiar. Waiting on two pairs of sticks from Maple Burl, two (plus one free so that doesn't count, right?) 2 tine forks from Natural craft, two 3 tine forks from Good Village and a pair of earrings from Rootiebirds. The rest of my month's madness have been received so they don't count any more either. They're 'old stuff'. I'm embarrassed by my avarice and I'm sure it would be more fun spread out a bit more instead of all the pleasures at once. Next time. But NOT next month! Until a couple months ago I had only a few very cheap claw clips. Life was easy then! Now I'm off to bed where at least I can't spend any more money!

I haven't found much about Mountain Musings on LHC so I just wanted to give a shout out to Meagan and her shop. She made these customs for me https://www.etsy.com/ca/transaction/222553435? and they are just lovely. The pictures really don't do them justice. I'll try to post an action shot at some point (hair is wet right now)

I'm really curious about this shop, Munke (https://www.etsy.com/listing/194176261/a-dew-covered-red-rose-hair-stick?ref=shop_home_active_18). It says the shop opened in 2010, but there are no sales and no reviews.

I'm curious how long the sticks are, but more importantly, if the polymer clay part would easily separate from the stick easily. They're very pretty.

Yeah, as I've been eyeing those forks, I had to double check the measurements because some of them sounded obscenely huge. Glad that suspicion was confirmed!

How is it in terms of finish (smoothness, grip)? Is it top-heavy?

The grip is excellent and the finish feels natural, like very smooth wood. No lacquer or varnish. All in all good work, but each of these tines is at least the size of a tt, if not thicker.

So here she is. This is a monster stick, but it held really well all afternoon and evening. But this is huge, and I like big forks. Someone with A LOT of hair could use this.

 That... is frightening. I had no idea they were so humongous....

Also last night I had a relapse and I bought these https://www.etsy.com/transaction/229849572 . According to the description, they are tiny, which is what I like. For halfups and such. I hope they're nice.

Here is the scent list:

I would love to hear if you've tried any of her hair product line & what your thoughts are?

This one looks much tinier (https://www.etsy.com/listing/192950573/going-coastal-puka-hair-fork-or-shawl?ref=shop_home_active_2). Tine length is 4". The one Quasi's modeling there has 5.75" tines.

yeah, i bought a monster. I was thinking of either asking the maker to shorten the tines or trying it myself, I just hadn't done that yet.

Well I think it looks super cool!! And if it doesn't work out as a hairtoy, you could always carry it for protection? lol! I fricking love that fork!

I posted this on the discount coupon thread but I'll mention it here too if that's ok.
MountainMusing on Etsy has 50% off until tomorrow if you use the code SteakandPotatoes

I've purchased from her and she was great. :)

At the moment I have the Resconsructive conditioner in my shower. It's a light conditioner, good for fine hair, doesn't leave residue. It has a light texture. The scent stays in my hair (I bought Imagine Rose, which is like Lush's Imogen Rose). I've been alternating it with other conditioners. I also bought the dry oil spray, which helps with frizzies, but I have to spray it on my hands first & apply lightly or my hair gets too flat. The leave in detangler is nice also, not too heavy, but just enough detangling and extra conditioning without making your hair feel flat or like there is residue.

Hope that helps!

Ah, thanks! When I searched the thread I used spaces in the name and she did not so it did not show up. I knew I had read about them somewhere but I just found a bun I can use sticks with so I have pretty much ignored stick makers until now. Thanks for your review too.

Oh, Clarkie, come out and play. Show us your new sticks!

Good to hear! When you get pictures, you should start a thread for them. I am talking to Sabrina now about a couple. I was getting a little carried away and was thinking about 5, but I just got a 60th street fork on swap, so I better stick with 2. or maybe 3?

Majorane

Get three, so your shipping costs per item gets lower. Duh!
:p
Also I came back with a report on these https://www.etsy.com/transaction/229849572
that just arrived.
Pic one:
http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu46/Marjokei/LHC/IMG_20141007_134413_zpsetm8efhb.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/Marjokei/media/LHC/IMG_20141007_134413_zpsetm8efhb.jpg.html)
Lovely grain, and they aren't mini at all. I misplaced my measurin tape but the functional length is 4,5" I think. Not bad! They are quite thin, made out of a sheet of olive timber,so no headcurve, but the shape of the tines make them hold my bun really well. Also the tibes weren't as smooth as I wanted them, but I have sanding paper aplenty so that was an easy fix
Comparison shot:
http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu46/Marjokei/LHC/IMG_20141007_134357_zpso0hkyzhc.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/Marjokei/media/LHC/IMG_20141007_134357_zpso0hkyzhc.jpg.html)

The GrahToe is a liliputian (but huge!) And the Ead is 6 inch. So, not mini forks at all. While that i s good, I still don't have a minifork for halfups, but oh well.
And action shot:

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu46/Marjokei/LHC/IMG_20141007_134922_zpsucecqgnb.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/Marjokei/media/LHC/IMG_20141007_134922_zpsucecqgnb.jpg.html)
In which my winerack makes an appearance yet again.

Verdict: For 10 bucks I cannot complain, they probably are great hairtoy staple! Because they are thin they are really light, and the hourglass tines hold well. Me like. The snags don' boothr me.

Also, I type this with a cat on my lap. She keeps biting my hand, demanding snuggles. I think she says hi.

Edit: boothr? I meant BOTHER! I swear it was the cat biting me

Hmm, :hmm: I had found that shop on ebay, but didn't realize he had an etsy shop. I really want to try one, but they are all so long. Maybe I'll inquire about a custom. Are yours all pretty long?

Fluid Metal Studio: https://www.etsy.com/shop/FluidMetalsStudio?section_id=13490107

Nimia, I've been wishing for the Araleth fork from Fluid Metals Studio for ages :) their work is really peculiar, which I love.

Well, thanks to this thread, I now own this pretty (https://www.etsy.com/au/transaction/233008283):

http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o722/Weighting/DSC05804_zpsb422b004.jpg

It holds like a rock, even with the smaller (than I usually get) tines. It's well-weighted (no probs with slipping), is especially good with a cinnabun or other buns that only need a little pinning, and looks so elegant. This will be something I hope to keep as an heirloom, as well as wear the heck out of it! Kris, who is also a longhair, is now looking at making ones with longer tines, too!

That's gorgeous! I was JUST looking at her shop and pining over some of her forks. I would love one with longer tines, as none of her tine lengths were over 3.5" or 4", which I sincerely doubt would be enough for my hair. I'm drooling over yours!

It really is droolworthy! Thanks, Laurenji! I was umming and ahhing over it for quite a while, but it just wouldn't leave my mind. So, I reasoned if it didn't hold on its own, I'd use opposing spin pins as well, but luckily, it's a little trooper and doesn't need them (yet :p)!

The two sticks I bought from TejasDragon (https://www.etsy.com/shop/TejasDragon?ref=search_shop_redirect) are really lovely, *especially* since I have a lot of hair when I do my LWB's. I would recommend him. He also is very sweet and sends a thank you note when you purchase. There's a thread on him here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=127529)!
