So a month ago i cut from past hip to waist and it went just above due to hair thickess with new ends see avatar picture, i thought i would see how much it had grown and its almost hip again !!!
i took this picture yesterday hands resting on hip .

So if you have damage but dont want to lose a lot of length thinking it wont grow back that fast don't worry it may grow even quicker :D : D

Wow, that looks like good progress! Looks like only a few inches to go :)
I really like the color of your hair, by the way.
Keep it up http://www.cool-smileys.com/images/dancing-turtle.gif (http://cool-smileys.com//the-dancing-turtle-smiley)

I'm so temped to cut my hair to BSL, then i would have almost all hair more or less one length and splits ends free. And maybe i would stop worrying about hair so much.

I dont regret cutting back at all!!! its so much easier now i used to constantly fight with splits and dots and now they are all gone and my ends look great and i've pretty much got the length back already i think next month it will be hip again i think i have a good inch to go.
Honestly i dont have to treat the ends diffrently to the the newer hair like i used to i'm not always having to oil either i swaear by my holy grail honey condtioner that stuff is amazing!!!!

I remember seeing your pic immediately after you had the cut last month. This is really an amazing growth. You'll definitely be at hip soon. Could you please share the name of the honey conditioner you are using, if you don't mind me asking.

I never really want to trim because I begrudge every millimeter I lose, but my hair always regains the length and then some faster than if I didn't trim at all. Plus we get a fab looking hemline!

Yes this is why i'm thinking of doing it. It might be quiet liberating for me and to stop worrying so much. But i think i wouldn't cut shorter than MBL so i can still put it up nicely.

This, so much this... I've been really tempted to chop the remaining damage off, but my current goal is hip by christmas, and to reach that I can only microtrim each month. But it would be so nice to have healthy ends that won't stick together! And no layers, and no strange ombre-thing going on! I too treasure every millimeter.. which is silly but I can't help it.. I want it as long as possible, but I do want it healthy at the same time. Decisions decisions!

That's my experience, too. For me, getting rid of damage is always worth a shorter length. I HATE fighting with bad ends.

So I totally misread your thread title as "don't even THINK about cutting damage out." (Like, don't you dare cut out damaged hair!) I was quite relieved when it turned out to be a positive post!
Your hair looks great! :D

I do not have damage but I grew out from bald and have all kinds of layers. I have found from experience if I cut my hair, it takes forever to grow back so I refuse to cut or trim. Catnip soaks and shampoo bars keep split ends at bay so after 4 years I am at waist from completely bald from chemo. Cutting it does not work for everyone. Hair takes forever to get long. Just to clarify, my longest length is at waist, the shortest is at BSL so I have a ways to go. The ends are fairytailed, which I really like.

Ha, I did too! I cut off two inches of layered, damaged ends-- I think the damage was partly from layers having been cut at an angle :(-- and am super glad I did/ Almost glad enough to get rid of the remaining three inches of layers, but I think I'll be more patient and do an inch every other month.
Also, RapunzelKat, your hair is looking fantastic. Talk about a great hemline!

Thank you! :flower: It's still not as thick as I'd like, but it has really improved a lot from the mess it was when I joined LHC.

Wow! Your hair looks fantastic. :) I would love to cut a few inches off my ends to get rid of some damage, but I am just now becoming a bit more satisfied with my length, even though it's nowhere near where I'd like it to be!

I'm starting to think this too but I'm only recently hip and I love it so much. Might take a couple of centimetres off though as my ends are starting to stick together and I've already tried clarifying. :(

I would love to get rid of all my damaged hair... but I would have to chop to a bob to achieve that :( I'm glad that your hair is growing even better after the cut!

I agree. I chopped waaay to much at last trim and at first I was pretty upset but when I actually looked at my ends I loved it immediately. I actually forgot that I even trimmed so much because after I took my monthly shot I thought what on earth how come it has grown sooo little - duh!!! No more trimming for a couple of months now :) freshly cut ends feels pretty good :)

Sometimes a trim can feel so good, right? I've trimmed 2" and it makes a HUGE difference! I'm glad you feel happy about it!

I'd love to cut out the porous dry old ends but I want to wait until the end of the year, and Ill probably not do it all as I want to reach classic before I die :p

I'm so happy to see this thread! I agree, it is so much better to cut off bad ends. I went from hip to above waist and cut about 6 inches off of old tangled dry totally unmanageable ends that were making me miserable every day. Now I can actually get a comb through my hair and my hair feels like silk. I'm so glad I made the decision to cut back and yes my ends seem to be growing even faster now!!!

Well the hair may grow back quicker for some, but for me it didn't. Two years ago I cut my hair from waist to bsl (not due to damage but due to being pressured to cut it) and it took two years to grow it back. However, I may be one of the rarities here with turtle paced hair growth.

In July last year I did a trim to even up my ends from past layers and lost 6". I was not thrilled with the loss of length at the time but now I'm glad I did. I've got this 6" back plus a little extra and a full looking hemline. :)

I forgot something. I trimmed out all my unwanted layers, grew out a broken chunk, and s&d my ends clipped the splits off my broken area now I have a layer area. I'm not tempted to cut so far even though I've toyed with it. The last time it grew faster then I thought.
