Hair stick help

Hey gang!
I was given some STUNNING hair sticks by a very special friend. :D Now, normally I'm not a hair stick user, but I realize it was because I didn't have the right sticks. These are AMAZING. My only problem? I suck at putting them in! I like my hair styles snug, and I keep messing them up so they slip---are there any good youtube tutorials out there for a figure 8 bun? Or just how to secure a bun in general with a hair stick. I don't think I'm putting them in correctly. I searched youtube but didn't find a lot of people with long , thick hair.

The idea is that you go in the opposite direction first - similar to how you'd use U-pins.

My go-to is the lazy wrap bun, because they're really quick and easy, and you can make them as tight or loose as you want and they still look great.
