After overdoing the protein my ends are dry and for really the first time ever I've noticed I have some split ends, so I'm wanting to cut a few of my split ends. From reading here I've learned this is called S&D. I've never taken scissors to my own hair in my entire life, but figure it can't be too difficult to cut maybe 1/4 inch off where I see split ends.

I know it's important to purchase scissors meant for hair, but beyond that is there any scissors that are recommended or something I should look for when purchasing? I don't have much money to spend, will cheaper scissors be ok? Any recommendations on brands or specific scissors? Even something I could order online?

Just make sure to get scissors for hair, they don't have to be that expensive. I picked one up at the store here for about a tenner.

I like my goody stylista ones the price I don't know but they do a fabulous job at cutting hair.

I have these and I love 'em:

I think Tweezerman do free sharpening for their scissors if you live in the US.

I first had scissors from Hema/Kruidvat (local drugstores to Belgium/The Netherlands), went through both of those, and they just didn't cut it, pardon the pun. Then I invested about €50 in good quality, basic professional hair cutting shears, and boy, the difference is noteable, in my eyes at least. But my hair is iii and can kill scissors in no-time, especially if we have to cut through big chunks at once (compact cutting method).

Ah that makes a difference indeed!! I have the Hema ones, I mostly use these to trim the bangs, and maybe later on for s&d, I am kinda eep on cutting my length hehe. But for me these are fine, so you have to pay attention to that.. WHAT do you want to cut and how much needs cutting :)

Yes, I'd never be brave enough to attempt actually cutting my own hair. I'm only interested in snipping a few split ends off. I found some on Amazon in the $25 price range with free shipping that had very good reviews. Think that should be sufficient for my needs. Just didn't really know as I've never purchased hair shears or taken scissors to my own hair. Saw some that were like $100+ and it made me wonder whether cheaper scissors would be damaging. Sounds like this should work fine though. Thanks again for the help on this.

These are amazing

I have these and I gave some as a gift, more than 8 people are using these scissors for their hair in our family alone and everyone swears by them.

You'll thank me for it. :)

I just got a pair of Fromm hair scissors from Ulta, and they work really well. I think I got the "sunflower" ones, but the "tulip" ones are very sharp too. The only reason I got the scissors I did was because they moved easier (more fluidly) than the "tulips." Mine were $16.50 and the tulip ones were $11.50.

I was looking at those exact ones among a few others on Amazon. I was leaning towards these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B7QJOY4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AM5079OKDJY4F, but I may go with those now since I was already considering them and now with your high recommendation. Thank you!

They are at least pretty and the best rated on amazon UK (the closest amazon site to me in english). :)
