Why not?

Let's see how the high humidity affects hair.
Currently where I live it's 91 percent humidity (and so hot too!).

Last week we had tremendous thunderstorms and flooding. I had just washed and tried a length shot in between pouring episodes. I was astounded at how frizzy and scraggly the length looked. I was even thinking maybe I needed a trim.
http://imageshack.us/a/img843/7821/49syt.jpg

Then the very next week, I tried again. It was a bit less humid, and I will admit I tweaked my routine a bit more (WCC, LOC including flaxseed gel). The result was much nicer.
http://imageshack.us/a/img843/6791/ghiu4.jpg
I must remember to consider the humidity the next time I suspect scraggly ends.

Anyone else got high humidity pix?

Your hair is very pretty. I like your curls. My hair seems to really like humidity. It seems to get softer during high humidity, which is good seeing how I live really close to a river and it's really humid here because of that. That was really frustrating back when I used to curl my hair. Now that I no longer bother with curling I don't mind the humidity anymore, except for the"hotter than hell" summers!

Ha...I kept my hair in braids when it was humid otherwise it tangled and tried to make out with itself. No pictures though it was a mess.

Great idea for a thread! I'll try to get a pic next time the humidity goes up. It was crazy humid a few days ago and my DH said to me, "Ummm... your hair is certainly looking... LARGE."

Despite living in the Pacific NorthWET, the humidity isn't really that high during the day, especially in the summer months... I've never really noticed my hair getting huge from the weather - more like ignorant care practices.

I'm currently wearing my hair down with the windows open to take advantage of the humidity since I did an SMT yesterday so there's humectants in my hair... I'll take a pic in a few hours when my fuzz has reached its peak!

88 percent humidity. It poured rain all day until this evening at dusk.
This is 24 hours post wash, worn down all day.
Avalon organics rosemary leave in (quarter size), 6 drops mineral oil, flaxseed gel Last night. Slept with hair loose last night. Before this walk where I took the pic, I did a small amount of tangle teezing the ends, not truly detangling. Smeared on a smidge of shea moisture smoothie and scrunched before going on the walk. The humidity made my hair feel damp again by the time I took this pic.

Your wurls are gorgeous! I can totally relate to this thread. I live in on the Gulf coast, and it is humid almost all year around except maybe January and February it's more "normal" humidity. Being a 3a, some tighter/some looser, my curls actually do best in our humidity. Do you find that your curls are "wimpier" during the winter months? My curls tighten up quite a bit Spring through Fall, and then when January hits I have to encourage them more. As long as I'm armed with some good anti-humectant products, I love what the humidity does for my curls!

This is August, so like %100 humidity some days
http://i1364.photobucket.com/albums/r740/mamabshire/E986D9FD-404D-4ABA-9467-A4B8079FBF6E_zpsm4jqtwzr.jpg (http://s1364.photobucket.com/user/mamabshire/media/E986D9FD-404D-4ABA-9467-A4B8079FBF6E_zpsm4jqtwzr.jpg.html)

This is January and air dried. The weight of the water pulls my curls down, so they do better when diffused. (which is what I do 99% of the time. Was just experimenting with air drying in this photo.)

Great thread!

I don't have photos, but when I had fine, straight hair humidity made it go super-super limp and it went tightly against my scalp. There was no sense to try any styles on high humidity days. One of my friends back then had natural curls and when we biked together to school on humid, rainy days we had fun comparing our hairs: hers poofed up and became curlier and mine went against my head as tightly as possible and hanged down like seaweed :D

Now I have different hair type, a mixture of fine, medium and coarse hair, and a mixture of straight-ish and wavy hair with varying wave length (some are very tight). My canopy is straighter and the waves are on the underside. Anyway, I have never noticed humidity or lack of it affecting my hair in any way  I think it's more or less the same.

TrapperCreekD
March 12th, 2015, 11:59 AM
I wonder what my hair would do in more humid states? Despite living in the Pacific NorthWET, summer humidity is quite low - lower fifties and we start feeling miserable. It's obviously higher in the winter but I've never really noticed a difference on a wet vs dry day....

Wildcat Diva
March 12th, 2015, 12:17 PM
Well I think the evidence is clear that 100 percent humidity makes my hair look angry.

But other times, it's still pretty humid and yet hair is not so bad looking. Huh.

I'm not sure the month or season does anything for me different. Think I'm going home and bun up and put my silk sleep cap on so my hair can go to sleep for now and quit being so pissed.

Oh yeah, there is more rain in the forecast next week.

Wildcat Diva
March 12th, 2015, 02:16 PM
I think a lot of it depends on your environment.
Normal for my area is 59 to 92 percent.

Neko's 50 percent humidity shot earlier? I'm scratching my head, because 50 percent for us is decent. I suppose high is relative for the area you are in.

There is no question that there is a difference in my hair with this factor. And most of the time I am in higher humidity anyway (Texas Gulf Coast). But 100 percent humidity? It's brutal. Photos show it for sure.

Wildcat Diva, your hair in the first pic looks exactly like mine! You have really nice hair that acts up in humidity, I guess that is something all wavy people have to suffer! Thank you! Well most of all, I picked a less humid day that was not thunder storming to take a pic of my hair. The second picture in my first posts was freshly washed, shampooed then double conditioned. I did leave the conditioner in for a long time and probably combed the conditioner through and let it sit a while and really smoothed it in. The LOC was after the wash, leave in conditioner, oil and cream or gel. I know I used homemade flaxseed gel in that pic.

Wildcat Diva
May 17th, 2015, 08:10 PM
Yeah I feel ya! Tangly is my middle name, and that texture you see there in my kid, you can't really comb that out once it gets longer.

For me...I have cones in right now, but it was still tangly. I just added some Nightblooming's Panacea, combed out despite my better judgement (I have an angel on each shoulder, one says comb and ones says don't) bunned now.
I'm gonna do this thing, wear a plastic shower cap over the dry hair to make some steam with the hot air coming off my head. I like how moist that makes things feel.

(Shudder) Rather you than me. I spent several years in Broome and ....nope. It was just too much for me. We had no air conditioning either and had to sleep with windows firmly closed to keep the mosquitos and midges out as well. I just drowned in perspiration and developed an almost permanent heat rash. Luckily it was before I had long hair....

Ooooh, Broome would be a killer! It's got that desert heat on top of the tropical stuff. I hear you on the permanent heat rash, too (my scalp even gets it, and now prickles in the sun)! And midges and mozzies. We're lucky to have aircon. here--we suffered a bit previously without it during tooooo hot weather a few months back. I do find long hair is cooler, though, as I can have it up and away from my neck, or wet it down in a cold shower and just let that blanket drip coolness until it stops and goes back into an updo.

What an amazing thing for my hair to pull off considering my head only comes up to about his nipple. How did it get all the way up there?! Maybe my hair is retaliating from all the short jokes.
My hair regularly tries to eat DH if it's down. I think it's trying to phagocytose him like an amoeba.

I washed... I think what, four days ago? Things still can get frizzy in high humidity. I did tangle teezer and then stepped out into my porch, it's pouring outside now. How is this for showing off?

Then the very next week, I tried again. It was a bit less humid, and I will admit I tweaked my routine a bit more (WCC, LOC including flaxseed gel). The result was much nicer.

I must remember to consider the humidity the next time I suspect scraggly ends.

Anyone else got high humidity pix?

Oh my! You have such beautiful hair! :agape::agape: Perfect! And i love the color! Is it your natural hair color? :o

Oh thank you. This is like I think the best picture of it. It hardly really looks like that IRL. It's a fight to get the level of moisture right so it doesn't frizz and tangle.

These same ends in the picture are now longer (past BCL) and are more dry and frazzled. I'm trying to grow longer, and trimming only minimally. This takes its toll on the ends...

Yes, it is my natural color. I was taking photos at sundown yesterday and it was flaring really red in the low light. Normally it's dark brown but the ends have been lightened by sun exposure over the years, as is normal for most of us who don't cover our heads very well when we go outside.

Your comment was very kind and it made my morning!

Yeah for humidity.

My hair doesn't get frizzy, it just gets sweaty. What's worse in your opinion?

Wildcat Diva
July 18th, 2017, 12:47 PM
Well, I think sweaty is worse comfort wise, but I have it up a lot. If I want hair to look good being down, then my vanity ups the ante on hate for the frizzy factor.

LOL It is amazing how we all differ!

My hubby has pure white hair that is straight in dry or humid air; it never changes texture. at. all :thud:

My Shih Tzu has hair like mine....which cracks me up
She has a short puppy cut with a bit of texture, but in humid weather you can feel more fullness in her fur; her tail doubles in volume and has waves ....just like Mamma :crush:

Oh, this is an interesting thread! I never thought humidity really affected my hair, because it's straight and pretty much always up. It turns out that living on an island with very changeable weather means the humidity is anywhere between 70-100%, so it would be interesting to actually take note of whether it does affect my hair significantly.

I don't know what exactly the humidity was on the day I took this photo (I washed and airdried for a hairtyping photo; I got a bit more than I bargained for!), but it did feel humid and does show why I don't wash my hair and air dry in the daytime:
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4548/37558268694_c22745959a.jpg

Even after combing, it stayed just as frizzy! (For the record, from the actual hairtyping photo I'm sticking with 1b despite the insane fuzz)

Oh my goodness, that right ^^there^^ looks like my hair!!! Except that it doesn't happen for me from humidity, it happens because I have dual texture hair - 1a/b and 2b. From the front I look pin-straight, from the back I look wavy from tight braid waves. The canopy is straight though, so the under layer peeks out from underneath, and the little shorter bits create an all-over halo just like what you have there :D But mine happens regardless of humidity, because our weather spans a huge spectrum of hot/humid/muggy summers and freezing/dry/crackling winters.

And here's where I have to fess up that since my hair doesn't really get affected much by weather conditions, I'm clearly just here to rubberneck the humidity pics. Forgive me please...? ;)

Humidity percentage was at 100% today. I originally had super springy pin curls. Oh well. My bangs kind of held up. Shrinkage was on 1000%. And I just stopped caring.

It gets worse, and better, but that's about average. No escaping it in the tropics, so I just let it settle over time and accept the permanent frizz-halo.

Can you tame it any WD?

I use my BBB after a wee bit of serum (Biosilk Lite) and they blend into my crown pretty well now.

If it is really bad and I need to have it tamed for a special event, I use my BBB followed by a spritz of Garnier Anti-humidity Hairspray, and that does a fairly good job ;)

This (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33134&d=1535651010) was back in August with NO products added for a typing pic

So not too bad.... I guess I found my Holy Grail product/routine .....for now at least

Good luck
