Ok folks, I'm trying to grow at least to waist length. I've never been that long before and I don't know if I should go for layers or one-length. I like the look of one length from the back but have no idea what it looks like from the front. Anyone willing to show me? You can blank out your faces if you want.

Let's see what I can find in my photobucket:

bangs and face framing layers

hair up, bangs styled differently

no bangs, no layers

There are advantages to both. I think it comes down to personal preference in the end.

Thank you. It's helpful to see how much of your hair is in layers and what length they are. I'm just all unsure really. I guess I'll keep growing

Nothing wrong with keeping your hair one way until you're sick and tired of it, then changing it. That's what happened to me. I'm really enjoying my layers these days - they give me so many styling options, but there was a time when I really enjoyed the opposite.

I have waist length hair with layers in the front... They start at my colar bones, but I'm growing them a bit longer. Just trying to get rid of some dye. This is what it looks like from the front on a windy day! I personally love it, but my hair doesn't suit me when it's all one length :)

Obviously, it'll make you hair look "thinner", but I like how it lets my type have a bit more wave this way.

I like my layers. I came out of the salon miserable about a month ago, when they were first cut - a) because the hairdresser had totally gummed my hair up with product and b) because said layers were a bit on the short side (before the cut, my hair was all one length almost at waist, and now it's about 3" above waist, with layers from about APL down). They're still a bit shorter and choppier at the front than I would like. But I can see how beautifully they'll grow out, and my curly hair looks better from the back than it has in ages. Having layers also softens my face, I think, but they're still long enough to tie back.

(you can see here how the short layers are a bit too short and not blended enough - they're cut in a bit too hard at right angles to the rest of my hair)

The only down side is that hair cuts suddenly become terrifying when you have layers, because they are *so* *easy* to cut badly, so easy to cut too short, so easy to mess up. You really have to find a hairdresser you can trust, stick with them, and even then, be very clear about what you do and don't want (and watch them like a hawk while you're in the chair!).

Very very pretty hair! Out of curiosity, what is your hair type? Like, are you normally in the 1's but the layers let you go into the 2's?

Pics - 2 months ago. Half of my hair is at hip - other half at waist. (I think it's called top layer or something like that :D) + grown face-framing (it's somewhere around APL now)

And an older picture when I was at waist with the same hairstyle. (oh my hair has grown)

To be completely honest, I have no idea what type I have (LHC system-wise!), but I do know that my hair does have a slight wave, but when it's longer it doesn't hold it very well. When I let my hair airdry I usually get a nice wave in my layers but the longests strands stay rather straight! :)
