I have no idea what to do with this messy thing. It's totally out of control.
If I try to comb it then it will turn into a fuzz ball.
Any idea? What now?

I would detangle it in the shower with conditioner then leave it to dry naturally with no scrunching/product... but your hair is quite different to mine!

What is your routine normally Rosa?

Maybe detangle it carefully with a tiny bit of oil? But my hair type is not really like yours either...

Tons of conditioner, detangle before rinsing....may try leave in condish as well....ever considered loc method?

I'd slather it in a coney conditioner in the shower and get to work with a wide-toothed comb/Tangle Teezer.

Is this a common occurrence for you? Or is it a one-time thing with an obvious cause? If this isn't the first time it's happened, and you don't know what's happened, then I think you may want to add more moisture to your routine in general.

OR it could be that you need to wash with clarifying shampoo to take out the residues of oils and styling products. I need to do that about every 6 weeks or so.

Combing conditioner through in the shower is a really good tip.

When my hair is out of control (and even when it's in control most days), it's a good day to do an up-style or braided style (or both, a braided up-style).

we have very similar hairtypes :D My hair also explodes into a frizzball after combing and doesn't form any defined waves when left uncombed.

That's why i always wet-set my hair after washing :) That way, even if i comb it, it will form some neat waves.

It depends. Are you doing any WO or NW/SO method or hybrid of it? May effect the suggestions. If you are I would go ahead and lightly oil, detangle then preen it smooth.

If you are on any of these, did you do a clarify wash to start with fresh slate?

Good luck with it. Looks luck you had a very fun night last night. :)

My hair type is different, but I have a couple of different curl patterns which looks like what you have going on (in your case both curly and straight)--I braid mine while wet and full of conditioner for more control and uniformity once dry.

I think the problem is doing too much too fast - I feel like my hair is in a confused state of shock. I'm trying to figure out how to get it back somewhere sane without going back to the heavy cones and sulfates. I ended up at the NW and then broke down and did a crazy long shower doing my old coney hair products because it felt so dry and hard/crisp, knotty and rough I was seriously worried something had happened to it. So then after it seemed its old 'normal' again I turned around and clarified and finished with some coconut butter-shea butter homemade curl pudding.

The idea was 'ok now we know this is normal' lets move on.

So last night - I had the fluff monster down - show - party - come home crash not think about anything and wake up with this disaster.

I apologize for the panic.

You cant see it well in the pics but there are chunks that are stuck together - its not one big undefined tangle.

I have managed to use my butters to tame it out and gentle get it a part without rushing back to the water. I'm just not sure how to work between trying to do NW and NEEDING heavy butters on this fluff t make it softer and mind me. I was hoping for much more sebum than I am getting and I am putting in the time with it. Then maybe if I am not washing I wont NEED to butter ever day?

It does take a while to figure out with some trial and error.

I had random dryness and frizz attacks before i started rinsing properly, ascorbic acid sure is a stable now in my routine.
YOu could also try the molasses pre poo mix to add some moisture and slip without any cones at all, it you want defined waves that dont look too dome i would also suggest a wetset as dreamsinpink mentioned and probaly go for pincurls setting under a cap overnight.

Thanx folks for listening to my freak-out.

I would try a detangler first, either oil or a commercial product (watch out for cones, those are usually in there) and slowly finger detangle. Then use Avocado for a leave in. It's an excellent conditioning solution and lasts a long time.

What is your bun secured with? Also, have you tried jojoba oil? It may help with the dry feeling from lack of sebum production?
Also how is the GHE going?
