I'm trying to figure out my hair type, and ended up looking like a sunburnt zebra...

And from beneath in all its frizziness glory after the wind started having its way:

And then the wind got hold of it a bit more...

So, I have fine hair that likes to coil up (I get smaller ringlets underneath which weren't playing ball today, while the top is often straighter). Can anyone help identify my hairtype? I've got it at 2a-2b, but not too sure. Thanks in advance!

Oh, and my sig pic was taken yesterday, so shows how it behaves after a bit of bamboo brushing. And some nice sunshine. :) Of course, the sun *just* popped out from the clouds now... Gah!

High 2s? 2b or 2c, I'd guess.

Agree with the other commenters, generally speaking. Definitely in the 2s. Actually, your level of waviness and frizz looks quite similar to mine, where the majority of the hair has a long wave period (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=waveform+period&rlz=1C5CHFA_enGB564GB566&es_sm=119&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=LUR8U6nvBqPz0gWjt4C4BQ&ved=0CAYQ_AUoATge&biw=1093&bih=679#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=CTI7tO2aUoCMnM%253A%3BZFmx9AjhD83TgM%3Bhttp% 253A%252F%252Fdev.physicslab.org%252Fimg%252F461a8 527-80b9-46f6-8504-11a96dc45467.gif%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fdev.physicsl ab.org%252FDocument.aspx%253Fdoctype%253D3%2526fil ename%253DWavesSound_IntroductionWaves.xml%3B450%3 B195), but there's also some spiraling and individual hairs that want to be quite curly. I bet you could get a lot of curl at your length by adding gel when wet and drying with a diffuser (one of the big bowl-shaped ones) on low heat.

For me, in spite of having a lot of rogue curly hairs and quite a bit of spiraling on wash day, I categorise my hair as a 2b, partly because my spirals brush out so quickly, and partly because the period of the predominant wave patterns in my hair is so long. I tend to think of 2c as having waves with a shorter period length that in most cases resist brushing out to a 1c appearance even in the driest climate. But the 2b vs. 2c thing is really a judgement call, you know?

Love the color variation in your hair! Very pretty. :)

I would say 2B (being 2C myself and much tighter waved). There are spirals twisting down throughout the lenghts, but otherwise the wave ist very stretched. So without these, comparing to other 2B members i have seen pretty much fits

Your waves remind me of my own so I'd say 2B

Thank you so much for your help and compliments! :o :flower:

The longer wave pattern with spirals (it clumps and takes hours to dry if I don't break it up) had me stumped, but it is quite fine, so may just have a preferred sitting arrangement (until the brush comes along as Charybdis mentioned). :p The differences in my hair could go from 1c (there are some fairly straightish ones in there) to 2c (tighter small-wave spirals--even kinky--underneath). It's so good to know there are others who are familiar with these waves (or after a few days, just awkward bumps and flips unless it's bunned or braided)! I guess 2B is midway enough to cover it!

I bet you could get a lot of curl at your length by adding gel when wet and drying with a diffuser (one of the big bowl-shaped ones) on low heat.

I've done this a few times but without the diffuser (I live in the subtropics, so it's warm enough). It gets crinkly curly thingies, especially if I scrunch it--they look cool but feel ick! (It's normally silky, so anything other than this, be it greasy, crunchy, sticky, etc., drives me, and my fingers, nuts!) My hair's been around this length for years, but not for long! Yay for deciding to find out what more length will be like--and accepting the white stuff!

With only looking at the pictures and not reading the posts before I came up with a matching hair type in my head, I thought 2a/2b. Very pretty hair, by the way. :')

As an aside, I've finally run a TT through my mop after leaving it untouched all day, and it's retained so much more of the wave, with a side-order of bulk. My face-framing waves (CB+) are the tightest on top--very braidwavy from top to bottom. And yay, the spirals have finally dried... (it only took 12 hours).

Are those silvers coming in underneath your hair?? How unique and beautiful! :blossom: I've never seen silver come in like that...how very cool. Just wanted to tell you :o

Yeppers! And ta, momschicklets! The first whites were around my temple, and then the back ones snuck in under the canopy while I wasn't looking. Now there are a few beginning to speckle the top--and they're curly little buggers (but still fine). I sometimes look like I'm wearing a toupee when my hair's pulled back, showing a solid colour on top, white stripes on the sides and speckled underneath. (It's better if I feather the stripes.)

I am going to say 2b to 2c, Crystawni. Us wavy/wurly/curly girls tend to sway with the wind on any given day. I can claim anywhere from 2b to 3a, under differing circumstances.

Your hair is beautiful and these photos show such a unique silvering pattern. Please do post the photos over at the Salt and Pepper Thread, they are truly lovely.:crush:

Naw, ta, lulu! I should just claim 2 as my hairtype! Just 2. All of 2.

And I just noticed my big, fat coils have reformed, even after brushing earlier. Swaying with the wind--oh, I'm hearing ya! Confuzzled hair, we haz it.

*toddles off to post with the renegrays* ;)

Ha, I have a similar silvering pattern, and I hear you on the toupee look! :D Very pretty hair you have, Crystawni.

Hehe, well I think when my hair grows up, er, down, um, longer, it wants to be like yours, Teazel! Stunning! And how cool to find someone with a similar silvering pattern, and wavy, and wearing it in all its glory! :D

My wave/curl pattern is almost exactly the same as yours...I've been hoping someone like you would come along and get their hair typed so that I would know for sure what mine is! I had mine at 2a/b so it looks like my guess was about right.

I agree. A solid 2 B

Ha, our hair takes on the changes of the day, so we're moody wavies? Pancake one day, braidwaves the next. Just add water... :p

Thank you all for helping me out! I very much appreciate it!

And just to prove how fickle my hair can be, along with the sun, :p today I CWC instead of CO as in the other pics, and this is after I had smooshed with my towel, air-dried and ran my detangler through it:

The S waves were a bit tighter and I noticed they actually start higher up. Not big, fat waves, although the front was full of them...

I'd say 2a/2b, because your waves start pretty low and drawn out (that's why the 2a in the classifier). IMMHO.

Ta, lapushka! I know what you mean, and that's where I started... :)

It's hard to see in the pics (today's shows it a bit better, although it was taken after I'd brushed it), but the waves start about 5cm (2") from the roots, so it's wavy from top to bottom. The very top layer doesn't show it much, though, apart from the front. If I do half-ups or get my hair heavily layered, the underneath comes through as quite wavy/crinkly. But yeah, it's still a fairly long wave pattern.

ETA: Adding pics. The unbrushed version:

Have you tried the Curly Girl method yet? CO-washing and such? Experimenting with that, because that might enhance your wave pattern. :)

Crystawni

I've CO'd occasionally--and yeah, that brings out the spirals a lot more, but never tried the Curly Girl method. Must look into that! I already live in the subtropics (by the beach, so have to deal with salty air, too), but am moving soon to the tropics, so that'll test my wave pattern! Hahaha! I used to live in a cooler Mediterranean-like climate and hardly had any wave at all...
