View Full Version : SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! (ok sorry, just so stoked :D)

I am used to some slight spiral waves, but when combing they disappear. I decided to start a new routine (thank you Lapushka for helping me!): no more combing, WCC and leave-in (see blog if you are interested in more info and pictures), and look what happened!

Sorry for the goof color, I had to boost it in order to make my hair show on that dark cat sweater, but my hair has never looked this way naturally. I am super stoked that the new treatment seems to be working! :cheese::joy:

For comparison, this is what I am used to:

They are spirals in fact.. do they count as waves? *shrug* Hehe.. makes it looks like it anyway hahaha.

Thanks!! :D

I cannot get enough of looking at the picture *chuckle*

Yay, I'm glad you found a good treatment that works for you. Your hair looks lovely with those waves! It does look a bit short, that's what waves/spirals do, eat our length

I too had got a great tip reading Lapushka's posts. She had mentioned how she takes care of her hair, about combing and detangling hair only on wash day. I tried that last week, thought I'd be loosing more hair on wash day, but shed hair remained the same which made me really happy ;)

eadwine
May 9th, 2014, 12:41 PM
Thank you and yep.. I combed before I washed just to get some good detangling going before washing. After that no comb touched my hair, and I detangled in the shower with the conditioner, easy as pie. :) Great method and it saves time to boot. I had to get used to not combing, I felt messy hahaha, but right now I am not really bothered by it anymore :)

I'm happy for you, your hair looks decidedly wavy! I wholeheartedly understand the feeling, I feel the same whenever my hair decides to wave more than it normally does. :D The "no more combing" part sounds like the hardest threshold to climb over... I do love to comb my hair. I think I will try to follow your strategy once my hair has gotten longer. ...I might return to you and ask you some questions then!
Do you think you'll follow this method every time you wash your hair from now on? :)

eadwine
May 9th, 2014, 02:02 PM
I will most definitely follow this method from this point forward as my hair is still in its developmental stages now. This is the first time with this routine, before this I used to just WC, comb it and let it dry. Needless to say my hair does like this better :) As time goes by I might change it around just a little bit, maybe more leave-in, see what that does, it is a matter of trial and error, that. But the amount I used was enough to get my hair over the hurdle by the looks.

Getting over the not combing takes about a week, not even. The first and second days are the worst, after that it is smooth sailing, and right now I don't even mind not combing.

Mind.. I DO fingercomb! It is not like I wake up with a mess of hair and bun that up.
I still sleep with a braid as that is for me the most comfortable and least tangly way :)

I would say start now, why not? Why wait? This is just so much fun, too much fun to see the difference :D I couldn't wait to try it, but I didn't expect it to be this drastic.

Congratulations! Your waves look lovely! I also want to chime in and say that Lapushka's advice has absolutely saved my hair (she didn't give it to me personally, but reading the her posts to others inspired me to try her methods).

Those are some awesome spirals, eadwine! Crazy how not combing your hair can make it look so good!

eadwine
May 9th, 2014, 03:28 PM
That is what I thought!

All this just because of the fact that "combing my hair removes my wavies, so let's stop combing" and things progressed from there.

Why not just buy a new bottle? :) I bought mine online as it cannot be found in a regular supermarket here, and I didn't feel like traveling along all the specialist stores that also sells make up and such to try and find it

I totally understand your excitement, I can see the lazy spirals in your hair and it is just so so lovely, congrats! :cheer:

I have yet to get to the point where I can let my hair dry without combing through with my wide tooth comb, because I feel the need to detangle it dry, then, and it looks bad. For some reason I just can't get over the thought that there are tangles in my hair that need to be undone... I should make a real effort to do like you did, though. Thanks for the inspiration! :flower:

You're welcome; hope it works out for you. I don't use too much product with LOC, though, I have to tell you that. Curlies need lots more, but for those of us with wavy hair, less is more!

Eadwine, those waves look lovely! I also WCC and try to scrunch water in my hair during the first conditioner. I had originally started before I knew there was a name for it, it seems like my hair sucks up conditioner so I would rinse and condition again. I also use leave in and seal with oil but I haven't found a cream light enough yet that doesn't weigh down my waves.

lapushka: Less is more, yup, definitely. With conditioner and such that gets rinsed out it is not such a big deal but after getting out of the shower what you put in that stays in is really trial and error.

I used a smidgen too much g2b I think. Today my hair wants to accommodate itself to the night braid. That is not an effect you want, trust me on that  It is nothing really bad, just that I need to keep it into account for next week when I wash again :)

veryhairyfairy: that was hard for me too in the beginning, it took about three days, maybe four, and then I was used to the feeling and accepted things as they were without feeling icky over that.

walterSCAN: I changed my typing from 1c to 1c/2a for the time being, I have to wait and see what my hair is going to do over time, only one wash isn't going to make me believe my full 2aishness (oh man, only on LHC do people understand what I just said there!) just yet.

Oh.. what I also told Lapushka, but it is fine to share here.. I feel.. messy.. unkempt if you will.. with my new hair. THAT is going to take a bit longer to get used to. NOT the tangles, not the no combing itself, but the look in general.

I am used to this look so to speak:
http://www.glamour.com/images/beauty/2013/06/wavy-hair-step-6a-square-w352.jpg

And now am living with this:
http://desibeautyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/blonde-wavy-hair.jpg

(the hair, not the fishface)

It also feels, because I cannot see it on myself, like I have only 4 of those strands and it looks puny. That is NOT the case, but it FEELS that way, know what I mean?

I have been walking around living "hair nice and neat like 1a/b is what you want to aim for" for 41 years as being acceptable to me and my surroundings, and now all of a sudden this whole thing is being thrown under the bus because of this new routine. I cannot get those waves I just got when I comb my hair after washing it. I cannot get them all to look smoothened out. The only way I can have waves is if I have it the way fishface is showing.

But that part is harder to get used to and to accept as being (what I feel is) publicly ok. It is likely all in my head, but still.. :)

Thanks everyone who commented and supports!! This sure is a learning curve!

I *know* what you mean. My hair gets *wild* after this method, but that's just what I've come to accept. The first look you're showing is nice and smooth and... guess what? Not natural. That will never be natural hair, natural hair just isn't like that, all evened out and nice looking waves like that. A curling wand had something to do with that. But I know what you mean. The hair wants to clump together in waves, and there's a tendency to want to comb it out. You just have to resist, for this to work, you know. It's a bit of a transition, and it takes some getting used to!

Yep.. it is all a transition.

Mind.. if you look at the old pictures, my hair is smooth like that. Just not so wavy of course.. But that smooth is mainly what I meant.. I am used to it being smooth. Is it not smooth it needs combing, is it sitting weird it needs combing.

Now I have to change that to: it looks messy, it is supposed to look this way!

When I comb it it is byebye spirals. Don't want that AT ALL

Nice!

Not brushing or combing my hair is the best thing I ever did for it... Followed shortly by scrunching regular conditioner in as a leave in. Totally changed my hair from waves to wurls and loose spirals. It's fantastic.

My hair was never smooth though, just frizzy from brushing what wanted to be wurly hair.

Try the not combing ravenheather.. it is not too bad at all, I just still do comb and even mist my bangs in the morning because otherwise they will reach for the heavens ;)

Give it a week, it didn't even take me that for the unkempt feeling in that area to stop.

Yes, hope you like it. Don't overuse products, though. Curlies need more from the LOC method (if you're doing that too). Us wavies, and straighties even more, need just a tiny amount of leave-in, gel and oil/serum.

eadwine
May 11th, 2014, 08:02 AM
I used like a 10 eurocent coin with hill so to speak, leave-in amount, and it might have been a smidgen too much still, so.. indeed careful on the amount!!

Sleeping with a bun is a positive keeper. Hair is obviously taking the shape of the do it was in, happened with the old and new method as well, just new method a bit more, so sleeping with a bun is a definite yes over sleeping with the braid as when I take it down at least it flows ROUGHLY the way it normally does, instead of doing a MJ breakdance version.

Old method was easier that way: just comb the hair and whappa flatter ;) NOT combing anymore so I need to adjust a bit. :)

lapushka
May 11th, 2014, 09:40 AM
I'm wavy and I use small amounts for the LOC method. About a 2 eurocoin's worth of leave-in, the same amount of gel, and the same amount of serum. All for the lengths, only the gel is applied from ears down. Well actually it depends on the day... sometimes all are applied from ears down. It depends...
