View Full Version : I gave in! Went back to the dye! (Manic Panic) *pics*

I've not been on LHC as often lately because I've been so busy, plus was feeling so bored with my hair, I was losing interest. Was considering cutting it all off. Instead, after spending a little over 2 years dye free, I decided to go back to being a redhead. I didn't want to use a chemical dye though, so I used Manic Panic. The shade is Vampire's Kiss, and I think it looks awesome!

My hair up to shoulder length was virgin, my natural ash brown/blonette. The remainder was old dye I was growing out, a kinda chestnutty colour.

Here's the results! This is after 1 wash. The colour is darker and more of a purpley plum colour on my virgin hair. It gets lighter and brighter towards the ends :D

But the best pics are in sunlight:

I might try Pravana Vivids next when this fades, however I've heard that doesn't take well to virgin hair - any experiences?

Your hair looks beautiful. You made the right choice to change the color instead of cutting it.

I love it!! The color looks really nice on you and it looks so soft! I've been going back and forth on trying manic panic because my hair is too short to do anything with and I'm bored so now I want to do it even more lol, I'm a little afraid it won't fade out though.

looks beautiful! May I ask what your starting color was? My sister wants to go red, but I don't think she can make it without bleach, her hair is deepest black/brown.

Thank you! My hair was light ash brown up to shoulder length, the rest was a light chestnut sort of colour from old dye, pic here:

That's beautiful faellen :D
Wash-out dies are such a great way to "spice things up" without any damage or long-term commitment to one color :)

Wow, very pretty!!!! I remember when I used to dye my hair red with manic panic (only streaks, not my whole head of hair). If I were to dye my hair a fun color, it would be purple. But I'd be too lazy to do the upkeep lol

Awesome! I think you made the right choice. It can take a long time in porous areas, but in my experience Manic Panic does eventually fade out completely.

Such a rich gorgeous color! I am glad you are happy. It looks wonderful.
I never realized MP can go so vibrant over natural hair. This is interesting for me to see.

The colour looks so vibrant and you hair looks so healthy! Very good choice with the colour :)
I would love to use Manic Panic like that but I think my hair is too dark for it to show up without any pre-bleaching.

Does anyone know if there is a lot of bleeding that goes on with MP? I do a lot of work outside on my job and sometimes I'm caught in the rain and I have a white uniform shirt... I'd hate to bleed a funky MP color all over it and have my super come for a visit! lol

:agape:Gorgeous! I have such intense envy... I would love to do that to my hair with a teal color, but don't think it will ever be 'acceptable' at my job. :nono: Oh well, guess I will have to content myself with henna...

I haven't been out in the rain with it yet - weirdly enough it's been sunny here - but I imagine it may bleed in heavy rain, especially onto white clothing.
I haven't had any problems with it rubbing off on pillowcases or clothing when dry. Which surprised me, as I always had that issue with other veggie dyes (e.g. Special Effects) in the past.

Super pretty! :)

I have thought of trying manic panic, but I would only want it for fun once in a while and am afraid it won't fade completely :(

Yes, it bleeds. I haven't had problems with it rubbing off after the first wash, but it does bleed when wet.

Thank you!

Yeah to be honest I dyed my hair with the assumption that it probably wouldn't 100% fade (especially on the more porous hair from shoulders down), but I'm cool with that.

Love it!

I used to have purple streaks we did with Urban Shock hair colors, but obviously it was never allowed at school. I want to do it again since it is allowed where I work, but I worry that it's not "professional" since I do have my degree and I am focused on trying to move up the company chain.
