Hi all :)

Just wondered if any of you have any pics of layers on hip length hair, I cant seem to find any online for that length, showing the back view of them.
I'm going to add some layers to my hair, but I want to know how it will look from the back

Thanks for your help!

This is cut with the compact cut method for layers (ponytail on the forehead for short layers). My longest layer is hip+ and my shortest layer is APL+. This picture is from the beginning of the year, approximately. My hair's grown by now.

Compact cut makes for brilliant layers, you can then uses Feyes method on your hemline if you want to straighten it/take off the point (compact always leaves a shallow V hem on me)

I used my Caruso Mollecular Hairsetter to get those waves. Warm steam rollers are the best !

I'll find a photo with my natural wave, it's not nearly as exciting, lol.but it's good to see blended layers on natural hair because sometimes they look great and sometimes they look choppy. I'd only let an experienced stylist give me layers and I like them VERY blended.

http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac282/beyondbeauty76/IMG_0446.jpg (http://s908.photobucket.com/user/beyondbeauty76/media/IMG_0446.jpg.html)

Here's where my layers started, you can see them from the front. You're going to need to have very thick hair to get shorter layers and keep hip length ends still nice and full.
P.S. My hair isn't long anymore, I got super sick of having this much hair. I still have TONS of layers though :)

I'm 5'2" with a very short torso, measuring from the front hairline my hip length is only 29 inches. So, my hip length isn't quite as impressive as maybe some taller people's or people who have longer torsos, but I get there faster.

It's not so easy to make out, but this was done in a compact cut straight up from my front hairline, shortest layers at chin and longest at hip. My hair is a little straighter than it usually is because it was still kind of damp when I took it.

http://i62.tinypic.com/14ajsc3.jpg

I trimmed a few inches off the bottom this winter, though, because I wasn't a fan of how thin the bottom looked at that length. This image was taken with about two inches trimmed off from the last one, and a little wavier (hence the uneven hemline).

http://i58.tinypic.com/a1pder.jpg

And this photo was taken after trimming almost another inch and letting my waves take over, about 1.5 months later.

I am gonna contribute with the latest length shot I have, just because I took advantage too much of this thread :)
My hair is pretty frizzy here ( obviously) and it's nowhere near as thick , as healthy or as rich as other examples here, but maybe the initial poster wants to see some more medium hair as well.
Around the face in front I have some pretty short layers ( chin) and going in V shape until about tailbone or. A it more, as you can see . Did not measure the length in this photo

If you don't wear braids much and you like the look, they would definitely suit your wavy hair ^^ and you have the thickness for it! But it is certainly down to preference.

I dunno, all-one-length hair has some newer hairs poking out of braids but with my layers, my braids end up looking more like wavy ponytails (from all the sections of hair that don't reach to the next crossover) than like braids after a certain point. It depends on how much of your hair is that much shorter, I think.

DreamSheep, what kind of layering is that? Mine are blended layers.

I have no idea, I got them done 2-3 years ago by my hairdresser. My parents wanted me to cut my hair, I didn't want to lose length, so I requested "capas" which are layers in Spanish. She brought up my hair with a comb, and snipped each layer, but I wasn't really paying much attention. Later on I decided to grow out my fringe and face framing layers (which was layered within), so in the end I have quite a lot of layers at different lengths. However, these have been growing "freely" for the past 2 years, and I trimmed a little bit off my longest layer back in December.

Sorry for a long, boring, unhelpful paragraph ^^u

Thanks so much *Reika*! :)
I think both is how my hair falls naturally - the second one with flash is straight after drying, so it is natural texture. The first one it had probably been styled, and probably wasn't wash day, but I can't remember. My hair gets quite wavy, and slowly straightens out over the week if that helps! ^-^
I find bunning helps give soft bun waves. Hope this helps!

Oo I've been looking into dual citizenship en España because I had Jewish kicked out on my mom's side. They went to Colombia and finally ended up in Cuba, and my paternal family is Colombian. Good times. How are you liking la uni?

I've got blonde hair so my hair is fine and not that wavy. I'm growing it out after using henna. Not the best idea... My hair is closer to Amanda Seyfried's naturally so you can imagine how this backfired. I follow pages like this to keep myself motivated.

*ReiKa* I think the special something that long layered hair has over long blunt hair is proportion or symmetry. When my thick hair was blunt, I thought it looked like I had this teeny little pin head at the top and a great big wide sweep of hair at the bottom. It reminded me of a cape. I really grew to hate it.

I remember after spending time in Ecuador I fell in love with the long hair V-cuts everyone had, so my then BSL maybe waist hair I got layered and cut into a V-shape, and haven't touched it much since :)

I appreciate blunt cuts on others, but I know I prefer the curve or the V on myself - and my boyfriend has also commented that he loves the shape of my hemline - he says it is apparently very Spanish. So maybe you are onto something there! :p

Yes, Spidermom, I felt the same way before I cut my hair. I need some layers to it otherwise it just is this big mess of one length. It doesn't work on me as well as it does on other people.

Exactly Spidermom, when my hair was mostly blunt, I thought it just looked like a curtain stuck at the top of my head
I must say that in the past (years ago) I hated too my layers, because that stupid ex-hairdresser of mine used the razor on them... so they were rebellious and wispy chunks of hair that would soon look extremely frizzy and damaged at the ends...
Now my new hairdresser (that holy woman!!) only uses normal scissors all over my mane, for everything, and gives me excellent healthy layered hair :crush: and I don't even think of ever going back to blunt haircuts...

I've been itching to cut in some layers... just this morning saw my hair at BSL (when I was growing up my layers) and the bun waves were AWESOME... but, since my experience with hairstylists haven't been the best, maybe I can still play with some self-trim method... do you think is a good idea? or have you ever cut layers on your own hair? Let's say with the compact method cut?

I don't think my undecided waves look nice with a blunt hemline... and I like to wear my hair down A LOT (ssshhh don't tell anyone ;) ) and to make it look presentable, I sock-bun it at night...

Any thoughts? Ideas? Am I really crazy for thinking this is a good idea or even a possibility?

Hey, arelrios, I'm pretty certain there's a thread out there regarding the compact haircut and the best methods people have found to cut their hair. I'd search in Google and then add "the long hair community forum" since it's a lot easier to search for threads that way. (Take it from me, I eventually learned that after having the search engine on this not come up with any results or too many.)

I say cut the layers! Why have long hair if you can't enjoy it and wear it down?! :D

Yes, I did the search... but the result was a thread Lapushka created in 2013 (I think) and couldn't see much instructions/experiences ... Will try Google it again and see what happens...

To illustrate my case, I had DH to take pics... and this is the result:

http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii576/arelrios/a79f9e21-bd5b-4413-a5f6-e0299b23c8bc_zpso6zbt0ej.jpg (http://s1260.photobucket.com/user/arelrios/media/a79f9e21-bd5b-4413-a5f6-e0299b23c8bc_zpso6zbt0ej.jpg.html)

That is my hair with self trimmings only (haven't had an 'official' haircut in over 4 years) ... the hairs on the sides are shorter (perhaps is just the few temple hairs that had made it down - I have TONS of baby hairs blog entry with pics (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/entry.php?b=108393)) I also have some nape hairs that are really shorter in comparison to the rest....

So, I am thinking... maybe I can get layers that make the unevenness of the sides more subtle oooorrr perhaps I should go the drastic route and cut it around BSL and then get some soft layers...

I *think* I belong here. I don't have official layers, but I'm growing out some damage at the bottom with a U-hem that gives me a similar shape.

It IS hip here, it just looks a bit shorter due to waves and an oversized t-shirt. :)

I find the visual affect of layering, varies greatly, depending on the type+thickness of hair, and how it is layered. Mine is very thick wavy tailbone length, and my layers are very long(shortest layer is about 6" shorter than longest layer) because my hair is so thick, it's hard to even tell that it is layered. If I don't have it layered, the ends get VERY poofed out.
