wore my hair in (my first) dutch crown braid for a night out! (PICS)

I tried my hand at a dutch crown braid tonight to go out with friends. It took over a half hour from start to finish - it was really hard! Actually, I used the technique in the video tutorial above where you pull out the sides of each braid bump to give it a little more volume. This also softens the look and helps hide anywhere your scalp may show. I needed a few extra bobby pins for this, but I did really like the thicker look!

Very nice. My first crown braid didn't look near as pretty. I am actually of the mind that it's not worth continuing to try and perfect it when there are milkmaid braids, or Elizabethan hair taping as options that give the same look.

It took me almost a year to have a crown braid that wasn't completely lopsided.

I tried this again the next night and it didn't turn out as well. But I'm excited about the reason why! The first night (pictured above), my hair was day 3, so the slight oiliness helped the braid seem shiny and lay flat. The second night, I had it freshly washed and even lightly blow-dried on cool because I had to get out the door, and I had all this frizz and little hairs sticking out. So... awesome! I discovered a style that works way better on slightly dirty hair. :D
