I tried my hand at a dutch crown braid tonight to go out with friends. It took over a half hour from start to finish - it was really hard! But I think it came out great for my first attempt - what do you think? I used this video tutorial (which, of course, I found on TLHC): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IXOr2ABXbo

Good job! No scalp cleavage (which is the thing I often do not like about crown braids) and makes you look very elegant indeed! :)

It looks beautiful! I wish I could get mine to work, they keep turning out horribly messy and with bits of hair just not in the braid.

LOL, yeah, I remember how tiring they can be...

And like Embee said; no scalp cleavage, yay!

Well done! I also love your necklace :) I can't wait to try this myself! I wonder if it works on shoulder length hair.

Looks great! That is exactly what I want to do but I'll need a lot more hair. Our length is the same but yours is way thicker. I'll need to wrap around twice to get the look right I think.

Well done!

Actually, I used the technique in the video tutorial above where you pull out the sides of each braid bump to give it a little more volume. This also softens the look and helps hide anywhere your scalp may show. I needed a few extra bobby pins for this, but I did really like the thicker look!

Very nice. My first crown braid didn't look near as pretty. I am actually of the mind that it's not worth continuing to try and perfect it when there are milkmaid braids, or Elizabethan hair taping as options that give the same look.

Lovely indeed, i like that it doesnt look to perfect, which is kind of an art in itself to get that right. I wish i had a talent to braid, but seriously... i cant get it to look decent on myself. :(

Wow, seriously awesome! It looks amazing!

It took me almost a year to have a crown braid that wasn't completely lopsided.

I tried this again the next night and it didn't turn out as well. But I'm excited about the reason why! The first night (pictured above), my hair was day 3, so the slight oiliness helped the braid seem shiny and lay flat. The second night, I had it freshly washed and even lightly blow-dried on cool because I had to get out the door, and I had all this frizz and little hairs sticking out. So... awesome! I discovered a style that works way better on slightly dirty hair. :D
