I thought it would be fun for the naturally wavy and curly girls to post photos of their pattern, since there's such a wide variety.

My hair is a bit frizzy today, but honestly, when is it not. So, here's my natural curl patten. I usually braid wave, but not today. - Now back to your bun.

Lovely waves and curls. Lapushka--your hairtyping picture is hardly wild--if it looks like that naked, how lovely it must be with products. I too this a while ago for a thread. This is my curl at its best with leavein and such.

There really are so many different curl/wave patterns, as all of the above photos show. Waves and wurls and curls are wonderful and it took me a long time to embrace mine. I used to fight them in the past, but no more, now I let them do their own thing. Also, I have found (after far too many trials and errors with far too many products) that less is better when it comes to controlling my waves/curls.

I'm more so wavy with less scrunching effort.

And more time between washes....

Here's five day hair brushed out with a tangle teezer.

This is after a normal shampoo and conditioner wash followed by a good spritz of leave-in. If I apply my magic serum my hair will actually settle on one curl pattern for my whole head rather than two!

It's weird because when my hair was much shorter, it was fairly curly and I would straighten it everyday! Sometimes multiple times a day! Then I stopped straightening it because I wanted to get it long & healthy. I started to really like curly hair on myself. But then as my hair started to grow, my curls vanished and now I'm left with slightly wavy hair & I wish my hair was more curly! haha it's funny how you always want what you don't have

This is the most natural look of my waves. Not the most flattering pic but I very rarely air dry and just happened to do so yesterday.

My hair is easily weighed down. In this pic it's still a little damp, making it look waist length, but I'm still about an inch away fully dry. I usually damp bun over night then use a couple drops of argan oil on dry hair. That's all it needs to tame the frizz and give it a more polished look over all.

I'm having curl envy.

I'm having curl envy, too, but my consolation is that my face looks squattier when I curl my hair-- it's just not a flattering look on me! I think that what I was endowed with naturally looks best on me. :) And as for you, I love the waviness your shorter length is giving you! It looks great with your color!

Here are my waves at two different lengths when I had the patience to follow CG:

http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/z414/4nnibelle/6b3500b0-fc77-4ae0-9af2-80a1a2708971_zpse11c1d13.jpg (http://s1188.photobucket.com/user/4nnibelle/media/6b3500b0-fc77-4ae0-9af2-80a1a2708971_zpse11c1d13.jpg.html) http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/z414/4nnibelle/67e22fef-c2fa-4494-977d-c6e8d545d129_zps90189314.jpg (http://s1188.photobucket.com/user/4nnibelle/media/67e22fef-c2fa-4494-977d-c6e8d545d129_zps90189314.jpg.html)

And here are my waves straightened out, which is how I wear it lately-- just enough wave left to create body and flippy ends:

http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/z414/4nnibelle/893c3d53-32a8-41fe-9eed-30dbd31e8bab_zps3467cfcb.jpg (http://s1188.photobucket.com/user/4nnibelle/media/893c3d53-32a8-41fe-9eed-30dbd31e8bab_zps3467cfcb.jpg.html)

(BTW, the most accurate color is in the final pic. My hair appears different colors with every camera I use!!!)

My wave definitely has toned down a bit after Henndigo-ing, but today I tried the WCC method, and I liked how it turned out:

And a deceptive length shot. It's not that long really. It is up to my waist, but at a miracle angle ;)

This was taken some time ago while it was drying before I started putting any leave ins in it. I think when this was taken I was playing with WCC. I have managed to tame the volume quite a bit with leave in's, though I am about to cut back on my next wash because I think I've tamed it a little TOO much. It's pretty weighed down now (not that I can complain, after years of having hair that was wild).

Sorry it's blurry, self timer on the camera isn't the best at focusing apparently. You can see some waves and some spirals and all kinds of insanity in there. Oil and leave in conditioner have definitely tamed the insanity. Going to just shampoo and condition next wash and let it dry and see where it's at.

And for comparison, HERE is my wave pattern when I used to brush my hair and just do regular shampoo and condition and not treat it like the wild mane it is and let it be wild with no more brushing and lots of conditioner. This is a few days post wash back in January, so it's a little smoother more stretched out waves as you would expect post wash, but still even freshly washed was nothing like the blurry picture above.

Product list:

Shampoo - Aldi's Hair Culture Shampoo (https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/health-beauty/carino-hair-care/carino-hair-care-product-detail-page/ps/p/hair-culture-shampoo/)
Conditioner - Tresemme Naturals or Garnier Ultimate Blends (http://www.boots.com/en/Garnier-Ultimate-Blends-The-Sleek-Restorer-conditioner-400ml_1422050/) ONly the silicone free products from this line
Leave-in - Rainforest Moisture (http://www.thebodyshop.co.uk/bath-body-care/haircare/rainforest-moisture-conditioner.aspx) or Faith in Nature (https://www.faithinnature.co.uk/products/coconut-conditioner)
Styling - Boots Curl Creme (http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Essentials-Curl-Creme-250ml_927582/)

So, my routine as of right now is to wash about once or twice a week using a sulphate shampoo with no silicones. I don't put any shampoo on the length, just split my hair in two and rub the shampoo into my scalp with my fingertips. I switch between Tresemme naturals conditioner and Garnier Ultimate Blends. If you try the Garnier conditioner be careful because some of them in that line have silicones. The one's I have which don't are: The Sleek Restorer, The Silky Smoother and The Nourishing Repair.

Before shampooing (if I don't have a deep conditioner on my hair) I put conditioner in my hair to get it completely soaked and to offer more of a barrier to the shampoo. I use a palm full for this. After shampooing I detangle using my fingers. When I reach a tangle in my hair I pull the individual hair's out from the knot which removes the loose hair that was tangled around the rest. This is to minimise breakage. Again, I slather my hair with conditioner for this part. Best to use cheap conditioners for this. Garnier Ultimate blends should still be on offer in Boots and Superdrug.

After I've rinsed everything out I use either rainforest moisture conditioner from the body shop or the Faith in Nature coconut conditioner that I've recently discovered as a leave-in. They're light enough that they don't weigh my hair down my they keep my hair moisturised.

Recently I've been using the Boots essentials Curl Creme I think it's worked best for my hair and it's cheap! Part my hair in two, smooth the creme down the length and then scrunch. Then I plop with a t-shirt for about 20 mins to an hour. I haven't really found a time period that works best, but I think I'm leaning more toward an hour. Then I diffuse with a hairdryer for about 5-10 mins. After another 5-10 mins I might diffuse the hair towards my scalp a bit more but otherwise I leave it. This is all done at night and then when I go to bed my roots are still damp. Overnight I pineapple and by morning everything's done! I think having my roots damp when I pineapple contributes to the volume.

As for maintenance ends-wise every few months I do a search and destroy and just take off any split ends or micro trim a few curls. And keep hair up when it's windy or raining which seems to be all the time in the UK.

Just to add my hair properties are: 3A/B texture, coarse, thick and low porosity

Not anywhere near as pretty as MedusaWarriors)) Beautiful curls!!

Been trying to find the balance between pretty and sleek protective updos, and maximising my wave. If I brush my hair and blow dry it (on cool) it can be 1b but left to air dry it can be 2a and can maximise the waves to a 2b with CG method. Through the week I was blow drying it and putting it straight up into a bun or braid but have started to wear it wavy most days now.

CO wash my hair each morning (hoping to try stretching washes when i'm on vacation in several weeks), spray Carol's Daughter Leave in spray all over wet hair, scrunch in, apply Boots curl creme and scrunch, and plop. At weekends I leave it to air dry, and lately through the week I have been blow drying my canopy and pulling it back into a loose pony (I'm not a fan of the slicked back when wet look) and once the length is dry I will sometimes take it down.

Okay ladies. I got a question for you. I really don't wanna start a new ''hair typing'' thread so I'm gonna ask here. I think I'm not a 2c at all... (not that that's a bad thing, I like my hair type no matter what it is). So, first picture shows my grown face-framing and the second pictures shows the ends of the rest of my hair. Pictures are taken after clarifying but I DID use conditioner. I guess I would have more waves if I didn't. So what's my hair type?

Thank you, Lapushka. You always say the nicest things to me. When I comb or brush it, there is still a teeny bit of wave, but not much. Most people would see it and say my hair is straight, so I'm thinking it's more 1c than 2a, but maybe on a humid day I could get it to look 2a, who knows? :) We just don't have humidity in Idaho, lol. It does hold curls well, so I can pretend I'm a curly/wavy if I put it up in rag curls, lol.

This is how my uncombed natural hair used to look, just moments before I messed it up with curly perms. I was having sort of a "good hair day", for my natural hair doesn't usually look that much wavy. Indeed at that time, I was obsessed with having curly hair, so I used to plop it a lot, and used to put lots of defining mousse... or maybe, it just has gone more straight after proper hair routines, and spoiling it a little with yummy things :p
Anyway, I'm still trying to get rid of perms, so I wish my current hair looked half healthy than this picture

I'm having curl envy, too, but my consolation is that my face looks squattier when I curl my hair-- it's just not a flattering look on me! I think that what I was endowed with naturally looks best on me. :) And as for you, I love the waviness your shorter length is giving you! It looks great with your color!

Here are my waves at two different lengths when I had the patience to follow CG:

http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/z414/4nnibelle/6b3500b0-fc77-4ae0-9af2-80a1a2708971_zpse11c1d13.jpg (http://s1188.photobucket.com/user/4nnibelle/media/6b3500b0-fc77-4ae0-9af2-80a1a2708971_zpse11c1d13.jpg.html) http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/z414/4nnibelle/67e22fef-c2fa-4494-977d-c6e8d545d129_zps90189314.jpg (http://s1188.photobucket.com/user/4nnibelle/media/67e22fef-c2fa-4494-977d-c6e8d545d129_zps90189314.jpg.html)

And here are my waves straightened out, which is how I wear it lately-- just enough wave left to create body and flippy ends:

http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/z414/4nnibelle/893c3d53-32a8-41fe-9eed-30dbd31e8bab_zps3467cfcb.jpg (http://s1188.photobucket.com/user/4nnibelle/media/893c3d53-32a8-41fe-9eed-30dbd31e8bab_zps3467cfcb.jpg.html)

(BTW, the most accurate color is in the final pic. My hair appears different colors with every camera I use!!!)

My daughter is 11 and she says I look "old" when I wear my hair curly...she's a very direct child! haha I still am following CG for now though! What products did you use for CG and also how do you straighten your hair? With heat?

My curls after amla for some oomph. A bit curlier than usual. This is my hair overall:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10822&d=1399774769

and tight 3b curls at the nape of my neck.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10823&d=1399774771

My hair isn't that long yet but I'm enjoying how bouncy and light it is still!

WOW! So pretty...Probably a dumb question but what is amla?

I love looking at all these patterns!

My hair in my signature is a few days without any combing whatsoever, straightened out a little bit from wearing buns. Ideally, my hair would all look like that wavy bit in the middle. It straightens out as soon as I touch it.

This is my hair pattern while it's drying before I detangle.

jupiterinleo, I have a similar pic of my hair! :p I took it to show how my whites dry almost instantly compared to my non-whites, but it also shows how my wave varies in the canopy and nape area:

http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o722/Weighting/20140528_104928smaller_zps357fd516.jpg

And this was for when I was trying to figure my hairtype (humid climates suck at times, as you can tell by the frizzies) :

My daughter is 11 and she says I look "old" when I wear my hair curly...she's a very direct child! haha I still am following CG for now though! What products did you use for CG and also how do you straighten your hair? With heat?

Your waves look gorgeous! When I did CG, I varied my conditioners a lot. It really didn't seem to matter too much what types I used. I used Avalon Organics Moisture, Burt's Bees Moisture, Everyday Shea Moisture. Basically lots of oily conditioners. And then I would scrunch with Kiss My Face medium hold gel. :) As for straightening, I basically comb my hair while it's wet a few times, blow dry my bangs, and then-- and this sounds counter-intuitive-- twirl my hair into two curls, one on either side of my shoulders, and leave it there to dry. The reason this works for me is 1.) I don't have curls, just 2b waves, and 2.) I twist in the opposite direction of my curl pattern. Then when my hair dries, I comb it all out again, and while my hair isn't stick straight, it's more like 1c with twirly ends. :)

Coveredbylove, my hair looks very similar to your picture right after its freshly washed. Do you CG? I still use sulfates, and sometimes I wonder if I might be lean more towards the 3s if I ditched the sulfates.

It depends...I personally do not use the CG method. I wish that I could, honestly. However, my scalp absolutely HATES conditioner on it. I have tried several times over the last couple years with different condish and it never works out for me...I get scalp issues almost immediately and shedding every time. SO, what I do is CWC. This method gives my scalp what it wants (ultra cleansing sulfates) and my hair what it wants (conditioner and lots of it). I do other things the CG way, such as plopping (which I did not do for this particular photo) and I stay away from silicones for the most part (my shampoo has 1 silicone). Pre damage, my hair was 3b. (Damaged curls will not perform their full potential of curliness) I just recently hennaed as well, which also lays the curl down...a good choice ultimately so my damaged length can hold out until it grows out! :) My roots are trying to come in 3b. My hair also loves proteins and curls it's best when I use MNT poo and condish. Shampoo bars are another great cleansing method for curls, unfortunately I can't use them due to my very hard water. Your hair just may be curlier than you think! ;)

My wurly hair turns really weird before I comb it or do anything after a wash. It looks stripey, almost like my hair forms a top layer which looks lighter than the rest. Dunno. Those aren't really obvious highlights either.

Can't help but wanting to kill mine, lol. Just posted these in another thread and thought they would fit in here as well.
One of the wurliest strand in the game, DCed, clolorglossed and ironed. I always love my results but the process literally takes forever to do on an entire head of TBL hair, duh...

Amanda, you hair looks fab! Sure it's not more in the 2a/b range? Looks much wavier than 1c to me, at least on this particular pic.

queenovnight, thank you :) i actually took a pic for the morning hair thead few days ago but was hesitant to upload it, lol. But well, here's the rest of my crowning glory in it's unaltered state. There's more hair in the front, i just didn't feel like draping it so it looks authentic, haha, so did the face.

Thank you! That's my hair with product in it, (mousse, gel, leave in conditioner) so I guess it is more of a 2a/b. I'm trying to work out how to make it hold wavy but not look all nutso like it does in those pics haha. I LOVE your hair! It's so beautiful!!

I went hiking yesterday. The humidity actually gave my hair a nice look. The ends completely curled, but the rest was more wavy (well, wavy for my hair anyways XD) Now if only the humidity always worked in my favor!

I'm just not used to wearing it down this way as it tangles so badly whenever i try. Sponge curls did seriuosly improve the situation tho. Will take a pic of those next time as well.

Thank you hun! I just mentioned the sponge curls and can only encourage you to try. They dont look exactly natural but very defined, smooth and hold oh so well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0z2Ofvrtvc Absolutely my favorite tutorial on curls, especially because it's super fast and also inexpensive and gentle on the hair.

Beborani, thank you! :)
I'm a COer already, so technically i do alot of things according to CG, exept for laying of the cones and i do like to straighten it every once in a while, but my natural texture still reverts fine mostly so playing around is as fun as it should be.

Minako, CG purists will not approve of my methods either--silicone serum, silicone in conditioner except for one used for scalp cowash and hair dryer at high heat sometimes to dry fast but in my mind CG is what you do to retain curl shape with leave ins and not messing around with brushes and combs while drying.
Kganihanova--so pretty.

Here is my hair choosing to be very wavy today. I did a co wash which I don't usually do and my hair is now fluffier and less curly than usual. I'm not sure why the photo is sideways, but I can't fix it :(

Found this little guy last week... it's on my nape and it's short in comparison to the rest of my hair... I have this chunk of hair on my back that is shorter, not sure if because of breakage or is simply hairline hair that is growing... but I can totally say those are the 'curliest' hair I have... It keeps wondering if a hair cut might improve my wave pattern...

That's my problem, i love straight hair too much to put the proctection of my wave pattern above it. Otherwise i could surely optain bouncier and more defined wurls.
If i was to go cone free i would have to cut half of it to keep my sanity. Enjoyed my texture while hair was shorter but at this length it would just be too much of a commitement.

Hey all! So what do you think about my wave pattern. I think I would call this a curl hidden in my underneath layer. I have some smaller ones on the other side too. Its weird because its not like a bouncy curl but more of a long thin curl...if that makes sense.

Could this be a curl more than a wave anymore ? I braided my hair and this strand left out. Slowly it started to go up and curl. Actually after this photo was taken the curl bacame even more curlier! It seems every time I wash now, my hair waves more and more :D
