I've stopped using heat tools on my hair for everyday casual for work and weekends, but for special events coming up like weddings, I'd like to be able to give my hair a blow out and curl it. I don't like putting it up.

What can I use to give a bit of heat protection, besides using the tools on their lowest settings?

On the rare occasion I blowdry, I find the Frizzease Heat Protection Serum in the orange bottle to be effective. That is of course if you are willing to use 'cones.

When I used heat the only heat protection I ever found that worked was salon bought stuff, the Tigi Bed Head was my favourite and I still have a few products for when my hair won't behave :D

Yup a coney heat protector would be the best bet. Although what you describe sounds achievable by setting your hair on large-ish rollers, would that be something you'd try?
Personally i don't use tongs or straighteners ever, but some people manage to occasionally without their hair falling off :p
If you do, then i'd make sure the next wash is a DT though.
