I was curious on the value after browsing MeganE's thread so I found this website that calculates it.

http://hairsellon.com/hair-price-calculator/

I got $960 (35/3.5/chestnut/virgin) and thought it'd be fun to compare :)

What's yours?

Just a point: the length for this site is not the same as LHC length - it's the length of what you would cut (so, my LHC length is 37" but the longest tail I could get would be closer to 32")

I did that on purpose :) I wanted to see total worth.

ERROR ~Your Hair Length is too long and is causing the hair calculator to malfunction!! Please check you have entered the correct figure in Inches!

That's what it said when I put in my straight LHC numbers, lol. Going by the actual strand length, it's $902 if I call it brown but $1262 if I call it auburn or chestnut (and really it fits all three, depending on the lighting). If I dyed it red, it would apparently be worth $1159.

$794 for 27 inches of blonde virgin hair. At my goal length it would be $1235. Won't be selling it though!

Mine would be $590. It's worth more than that to me tho!

$333 for my 17", 3.5" thick chestnut hair. Random question but when is hair officially virgin? I've only flat ironed once a year for dance recitals, didn't one year, and then once this last September. Also I used hairspray for the recitals, and then a whole two weeks when I was staying with a friend who I discovered had lice:tmi:

Mine is worth $322 if I lie about the thickness, color and virginity! LOL. There was no choice for Silver/Gray hair.

I would shave my head for $5,000 though.

Right now I only have a pixie, but I'm growing it out (virgin). I'll keep this in mind in case I decide to do a big chop again.

Virgin means you've never used permanent dyes or bleached it

About $1300.

I am not entirely sure, since my hair is not quite brown, and not quite blonde.. it is somewhere in-between.

I got 392 dollars for 25 inches of brown hair. If I said I was blonde, it would be 588 dollars for the same amount. So I guess somewhere in-between. :)

Cool!

Supposedly mine is worth $784, but I notice they don't ask for the hair type at all. I mean, my hair is so fine that it's BEYOND fine, most of the time I feel like I need another classifier altogether for it. That makes it essentially worthless for wigs, etc. I think, anyway.

Fun thread topic!! I'll refer people to this one when they start thinking this is the point of mine, lol.

haha Mine said $170 but I know there is zero monetary value in my fine, colored short hair.
I think it gave me a pity price.

No worries ErienLeigh, I was quoted only $224 for non-virgin and $314 for virgin (mine is half-half). It might have little monetary value to others, but it`s priceless to me :).

$670

I'd never sell it for that. It'd require an additional two zeros, at LEAST, for me to even think about it.

I got 760 for non virgin and 988 if it was virgin. Shoot...I'm giving in. Virgin hair here I come!

I think my thickness (2.5) brought my hair's monetary value down. $586 for mine.

It's priceless to me, though... but in a horrible emergency with no other options, I'd have to think about it.

This also reminds me of the Mastercard commercials... ;-)

$718. But like ErinLeigh, i don't think its actually worth anything. It is completely virgin and super healthy (thanks LHC)etc. etc., but like she said, they didn't ask for hairtype and I don't think anyone ever pays anything for tightly curly hair. I am really quite sure that what they do always is buy a different hair type and modify it to look like tightly curly for extensions as they actually find curly hair past a certain point too hard to work with.
I could care less as it will never be for sale.

I got an Error message too. Apparently it thinks people can only grow to 49 inches. Wrooooong. I guess no one would want the last 10 inches of my hair anyway, since it's mostly fairy tale ends, but I like it. If I gave them the top 49 inches of my hair, they'd give me $1152, but there's no way I'd sell for that amount. Or any amount, really, but that amount is laughable. Think about the investment! 50 inches is 8 years of growth - that's a terrible return on investment. I think my savings account might do better than that. I'd always kind of thought of my hair as being valuable, but the calculator just gave me the opposite impression. Almost anything would be more worthwhile than selling my hair and waiting for it to grow back again. Oh well... I guess I'll go into the stock market.

Which is really crazy...would somebody actually pay that much? Too bad I've already promised mine to a friend. :/

Um if I did this right I think my hair is worth 680 US dollars... But if I put in my LHC numbers then I'm up to 907. *shrug* Make sense of that.

I think $850 for my virgin hair. I subtracted 5 inches off the LHC measurement to account for actual strand length, but no one is getting my hair. I feel like there should be a category for whether you avoid heat styling. I asked my DH how much he thought my hair might go for...he said maybe $100. I'd be offended, but I know he hasn't got the first clue how much extensions cost.

Apparently, on that particular website, virgin hair has not been chemically treated (including dyed, bleached, or colored), not been straightened, ironed, curled, blow dried, permed, and doesn't have damaged cuticles.

That's a tall order. I could probably make it on everything except the damaged cuticles, from frequently wearing my hair down, though I imagine almost everyone has some cuticle damage even from securing protective styles. Oh well, I'm happy with my cuticles as they are and I don't consider them to be very damaged.
