So I'm trying to figure out how long my hair needs to be for me to wrap it around my head. Because I'm board...and well really love that style.

anywho, it's about 14 inches from my hairline to my nape and 24 inches around my hairline loosely. So that is 38" plus maybe 5" inches for braid shrinkage and tail? Is that optimistic?

grand total is 43" more or less tailbone on me. And about 2 feet of growth away.

so ah, how's my math?
Can you wrap your hair around your head?
How long is your hair?
And because I believe in hair porn and voyeurism...can I see pictures? [note: photos here are visible to all of the internet]

At classic/fingertip (depending on the day) (47"?), my hair's long enough to just barely do the lazy woman's crown braid--it's not long enough to reach the hairline in front yet, though. But my head's big and my thickness makes a bit more length necessary, so YMMV. I'll post pics later.

I have fine hair at TBL. The length is sufficient to get around just once with enough left to tuck under (small head coupled with thin hair), but the braid is way to thin to look good after passing the first ear.

You should be able to do a crown braid at, what, APL? Maybe it takes a few weeks to learn... But that's got to be quicker than growing a braid you can wrap around your head :)

I had a plain old english braid in so it flipped it across my head like a crown braid would lay. You can't see the start of it, but its in the middle back(sort of low). I'm at waist and have very little tassel on the braid. It came out like this:

My hair is 43" long and I could wrap the braid around my head. It would look much nicer if the braid were nearer the hairline, but it's too short yet. :( I think I'll need my hair to be 47" long to wear a real crown not only a small tiara. Nevertheless.. you asked for pictures and here is mine:

But two_wheels is right: You could do a crown braid with much shorter hair. I always did a dutch lace braid around my head and it looks very similar. It just takes more time to learn (and braid).

I call it the lazy woman's crown braid. When I use Ficcares instead of pins, I call it the extra lazy woman's crown braid.

Thank you all! Yeah, I can crown braid now, my hair is still a little too short or too slippery to stay for any appreciable amount of time or activity. This was an exercise in "but when could I..." And bonus I get pretty pictures. All of these photos are gorgeous! Thank you thank you :)
