When I started growing out from BSL I had loads of damage on the ends thanks to a previous routine of high lift blond colours and frequent straightening. That all stopped and I vowed that once I hit waist length I would trim out the damage, or if it started to travel up the hair I would cut it out sooner. Fortunately, through much babying I got to waist and a bit beyond without the damage going any further. Last thursday though, I was sat in the car waiting to collect my son from a group he attends and the sun shone on my hair which for once was let loose. The ends looked awful, although only the bottom inch really. Once home I found the self trimming tutorial and got cutting. I went a bit shorter than I had planned, and the little one keeps telling me its short, but it feels so much better and I am now on to TBL with healthy ends.

Looks good! Did you cut it wavy or straighten first?

Success! It looked pretty before but thicker in the after. Isn't it great to be able to do those sorts of trims on your own, completely in control of how much length comes off.

Pretty much just as it is naturally which is a slight wave, combed it really well into the elastics then just snipped away

Looks great! :D Well done. It looked good before as well, but getting rid of damage is always satisfying, and your hemline looks thicker now :)

Very nice job! I'll take your word for it that the ends needed to go, since the "before" photo looks lovely too, but your hemline is definitely thicker now. Happy growing to TB!

Still nothing makes me more proud of myself than a well-done trim (I'm the kind of person that often mess something and ends with a side longer than the other ;)).
Good job, it looks amazing!

I agree. Looks good, and it's a wonderful feeling to have that control!

It is a wonderful feeling you aren't dependent on hair salons. Had trimmed my own hair for 3 years, & it worked out great. Going back to my original routine of doing things myself.

Great job! :D It really is liberating to be able to self trim. Once I hit waist or so, mine was finally long enough that I could cut it myself. :disco:

Beautiful! I like the fairy tales, but thick hemlines give an overall impression of health. You're lucky you have a hair texture that looks good with both! And down with barber visits. I think we all should know how to cut our own hair. Unless it's a super short style. It's so easy!
