Hi Long-Hairs!

I've just gotten my first pair of hair sticks. Based on recommendations here, I went with Pacific Merchantile, aka Eduard Hairsticks. I got a pair of 5 inch straight ones and he was nice enough to throw in a 7 inch stick with "I <3 LHC" (I wrote a tiny message in my order that I was exciting to try his sticks based on the recommendations on this forum). I am new to using the sticks and just adjusting to using them.

I have 3a/b/F/ii hair with fairytale ends to my tailbone. The fairytale tapering is because I cut layers in about a year and a half ago. Because of that and my hair type, my buns look a bit tiny unless I am doing a sock bun. I'm not sure if I can do a sock bun with the sticks, but I also wonder about how protective a style it is.

Any suggestions on easier styles I can do with the sticks while I'm getting the hang of it while considering that my regular buns tend to look funny? I'd like to use them most days so I can wear my hair mostly up and protected, but I'm still having a hard time getting fairly nimble with them.

Thanks :-)

I love love love the nautilus bun. Hypnotica has a great tutorial on YouTube of the style. I find this bun works extremely well with my hair and is really well balanced and holds all day.

A pha bun can also be done with a stick and is really easy.

I second this. It was the first hairstick bun I ever learned, and still my go-to. It's quick and very easy. Here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b86ZH0J7xtE)'s torrinpaige's tutorial for it.

Here's a video that's often posted around here: How To Fix Long Hair (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG9PPb8gCsI). It's basically a lazy wrap bun, and the first bun I myself was able to do with a stick. And lazy wraps of all sizes look good!

in my experience wen I made the switch, it wasn't so much the difficulty of the bun that made it difficult, but the fact that I didn't know hairstick technique to make it stay. So long as you catch a bit of the bun and kind of "sew" or weave the stick into your hair, it'll hold more firmly. Good luck!

This is the bun I do most often, holds great, looks great, and super easy. The only difference, is that I pull the loop over the twisted hair like you do with a nautilus. Super easy Bun!

Wow, thank you guys for the suggestions and also for the links to instructions! I've got a lot of options and practicing to do ;-)

I think I will start with the Chinese bun and braided variations just to get more nimble and my confidence up. I've been struggling with the nautilus bun but I'll just keep trying and keep an eye on my technique to make sure I'm weaving the stick in. Hypnotica's tutorial looks a lot less confusing than the other ones I've seen :-) The lazy wrap bun definitely looks super easy too!

And, the best part, they all look like they would offset how tiny my regular bun would look. That would definitely keep me motivating in doing a protective style most of the time.

To correct my typo above, my hair sticks are from Eaduard, not Eduard.

If I can figure it all out, I'll post pics ;-) Thank you again, everyone.

Thank you so much for posting this, I have never been able to use hair sticks but I tried this a few minutes ago (with a pen...I was too excited to go and get my hair sticks!) and it worked! HOORAY!! :cheer:

I'm happy to hear that I wasn't the only one who benefitted from these great suggestions :-)

So today was the first of the bunnings! I went with the Chinese bun and I was surprised at how easy and quick it was! That was really helpful today because I overslept, lol, and was rushing in the morning. Not perfect, but a LOT better than how I had been doing on my own!

Here it is :-)

Thank you for posting this. It's the first lazy wrap tutorial I've been able to actually follow.

The Pencil bun was the first one I learned how to do. Nice and easy too, there's a tutorial on YouTube.

I'm so excited to be practicing using my hair sticks with pretty buns and keeping my hair protected! You guys are awesome :-)
