I have some bumpits, and hair "rats" that I like to wear to create beehive-y retro styles, or gibson girl rolls or just general volume in my style (so I can have height without teasing)

Does anyone else do this? I use this (http://www.amazon.com/Diane-Hair-Bump-Black-Large/dp/B00D6DJCPM/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t) and also bun formers cut into rollers as well as my bumpits.

Would you say this is a hair safe practice?

I don't tend to, but I don't see any reason why it would be harmful, so long as it doesn't pull your hair or anything. Great alternative to teasing!

I save my shed hair from washing and made a hair rat. I like that it matches my hair and I can shape it easily.

I would save my shed hair... but my husband thinks it's gross (boo)

I think it is a good way to get some safe volume, if I could find some that are not so big in stores I would definitely give it a go, too. The material tends to snatch a bit on my hair if I am not careful, but I think if you are always gentle when removing them, everything should be fine.

I've used a foam roller for a bit of extra volume and stability in one of my tutorials for Anna's hairstyle from frozen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FBH-0z_CfI
I also use bun forms and sock buns
